cringe- worthy
25 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I found the dialogue between David Hunter and Lynn ludicrous and her "I'm just a poor woman" act cringe-worthy. The performance by the actor playing Hunter was so over the top it was from another planet. SPOILER :

So the police knew the Cloade house had been blown up by dynamite but there was no investigation? Please!! The only credit I give the production was to give Tim Pigot Smith so little to do. With an actor of his stature this nearly always means he would be the murderer. Not this time, so well done for that. Otherwise this production was so bad it makes me more annoyed the more I think of it. How can Suchet, supposedly, give approval for the book changes? I can only assume he does not appreciate the meaning of the title.

brilliant
4 July 2008
I too taped the 1982 BBC1 show, and still have it. Unfortunately, I was silly enough at the time to stop the recording when Slattery sang. Halfway through I wished I hadn't done that, and so don't have most of his song. I did fortunately then resume the recording. To the best of my knowledge the show was never repeated by the BBC,which is a shame in my opinion.

To add to the other reviewers highlights : my favourite sketch is Stephen Fry sitting in a chair just reading from Bram Stoker's book of "Dracula" to the camera. He takes on the Dracula and Jonathan Harker roles when reading their lines. Absolutely brilliant and hilarious. It was quite obvious that Stephen Fry would be a big star, his talent really showed through, as did Hugh Laurie's.

don't be fooled by nudity claims
21 March 2008
Just seen the UK DVD release, 117 mins long ( and I mean LONG ), which presumably is the directors cut and a good 20 minutes longer than the US cinema release. Lots of reviewers have mentioned the nudity in this film. Well, Cameron Richardson certainly shows her lovely breasts a fair bit at the start, and I think I may have caught about 2 seconds of Carla Gugino's breasts, although it was a pretty dark scene. So that leaves Lucy Liu : plenty of scenes but all from the rear or obscured by glass etc. You do not see her breasts at all so has this been cut over here despite the longer running time? I found this longer version very disjointed and confusing to follow, as others have commented. Lots of blood, these vampires are a lot more messy than in Christopher Lee's time. Far too long, was praying for it to end after about 90 mins and don't know how I resisted the fast forward button. This version is a waste of time.
