Ozark (2017)
4th season ruins it
This show was great for the first three seasons, then the 4th season ruined it. It's like the producers hired a entirely different team of writers who hadn't seen the first three seasons of the show. The first three seasons were a slow burn of increasing tension and intrigue and that was all thrown out in season 4. The plot became increasingly illogical and hard to believe with all the convoluted twists and turns. The character choices and story arcs weren't consistent with the prior 3 seasons and Wendy Byrde became a caricature of herself. She was never very likable in comparison to almost every other character on the show but she became increasingly grating. It was hard to believe that anyone would listen to her and that every single person in her life didn't try to kill her. They blew it in season 4.
The Northman (2022)
Abysmal, thoroughly unpleasant
This may have been the worst movie I have ever seen. The plot is dull and nonsensical. The characters are like caricatures, completely un-relatable. The acting is a great example of a cast of actors chewing up the scenery. It was a surprise from such a talented group of actors. This movie is 2 hours and 17 minutes long and is completely excruciating for 1 hour and 52 minutes of it. The only reason I stayed until the end was out of a sense of morbid curiosity of how much more idiotic this could get.
The Witch Who Came from the Sea (1976)
Senseless storyline and character portrayals
This is one of the worst horror movies I have seen. The characters are unbelievable and amateurish in their portrayals and the storyline makes little to no sense. The worst part of this movie is just how unlikeable and uninteresting the main character is. Getting through this was a slog and I had to watch it in increments.
Creed II (2018)
Could've been great, Michael B. Jordan was a horrible choice to play Adonis
This was a fantastic idea for a capper to the Rocky series but never got off the ground. Dolph Lundgren and Sylvester Stallone both performed well as did the actor that played Viktor Drago. The downfall of this film was in casting, again, Michael B. Jordan as Adonis. He just can't act, the boxing and training sequences are dull as he looks like he is making no effort and he has no ability to portray any feeling outside of confusion. When he is supposed to portray intense anger at the man who killed his father and the son who may do the same to him, he looks petulant and confused. Really a shame as this could have been great.
Ultimate Tag (2020)
Unwatchable
The premise is idiotic and the characters that are the taggers are so cringeworthy I almost feel sorry for them. Seriously, who wants to watch a bunch of self absorbed turds play tag?
Downhill (2020)
Not as bad as advertised
I kind of liked this even though it is flawed. The story isn't well developed and some of the elements of the plot don't make sense in the overall scheme of what the story is trying to be. Having said that Julia Louis Dreyfus and Will Ferrell both play their characters well in spite of the limits of the script and how their characters were written. It was an interesting story that could have been presented more effectively but it wasn't as terrible as most of the reviews for it make it out to be.
Gotti (2018)
Not as bad as most people are saying
I actually enjoyed this movie. It is flawed in the sense that it is really one sided and tends to glorify John Gotti instead of giving a warts and all depiction of his rise and fall in the Gambino family. To enjoy this movie you can't come into it cold, I think I enjoyed it more than most as I knew a lot of the history going into this and was familiar with the people and events depicted in the film. I think a person not familiar with John Gotti, Sammy Gravano, Frank De Cicco, the Gambino family and the other five families in New York would come out of this frustrated as this movie doesn't lay the groundwork, present their characters effectively or explain the relationships within the five families sufficient to tell a coherent story. In spite of the flaws I enjoyed this film and enjoyed John Travolta's performance.
