The Gilded Age (2022)
Nope
Particularly, the acting. Wooden and 2 dimensional, to the extreme. I did trust Julian, that the actors would relax into their parts as the show went on. Nope. Thinking - is this really the way these people "acted" during this period? No. Now that I think of it it's the Russells I am referring to. The others are mediocre, but the Russells are pathetic. For me, they destroy the whole thing.
Dopesick (2021)
Addicted!
I confess - This show is addicting, or rather I am addicted to this show. Does that mean it's bad, or that it's too good? Conflicted, I wonder what I can take or do to not be so addicted. How about oxycontin? I did read the label on this show. It didn't say it was addicting! Those evil b@stards! I must find another show that is just as addicting, very quickly. That will help. Help what? I am thinking of taking both oxycontin and another great mini-series. But slowly and carefully and only every 24 hours or so. But that resolution won't work, not for me. Should I just walk away, go into the woods and become a Buddhist? Are there Buddhists who take oxycontin, or binge-watch great mini-series? Even tho God is the answer, always, there is actually no question, ever. Buddhists help.
Tenet (2020)
Of course
This is the way to do it. To make a truly great movie - in the sense of Entertainment. Thank god someone in this present world knows how to make Great Entertainment in the field of movies. (other fields, theatre, music etc require a different genius. Of course you may have to be involved or inserted or instituted or inspired in this dimension of time/space and those who have the joy and freedom can merely sit back and enjoy the ride of many levels of reality without concern, allowing it all to unfold itself as it will. Yes the quantum dimension. The Rod Serling dimension. Open your head with the scalpel, set the noodle on the table, take what you need or better, nothing, and let the show begin. Mr Nolan, Thank you! Now, if you'll excuse me, I do need to get back to the future, where I lived.
Space Force (2020)
embarrassingly bad
I guess when you are 8 or 9 this might be fascinating. For an actor like John Malkovich I just don't understand why he would stoop so low.
People of Earth: Bee Kind (2017)
let us kill
ah yes let's have a killing. You really couldn't possibly have a decent TV show without a killing. too bad and so very sad - how to ruin a great show, a show that seemed to go beyond expectations with interesting and creative and humorous and uplifting twists - very wonderful and refreshing. Some light here in this dense and stupid world. But alas the writers just can't get beyond the lowest dimension of life. To me this is just stupidity, but then I seem to be so naive in my older years. Still hoping for some beauty and yes there are some shows that do this. But this little gem has taken a turn for the worse.
Foyle's War (2002)
this is tops
I must say I think this is one of the best shows ever. To me this ranks right up there with The West Wing. Of course there are a lot of other 'one of the best shows ever's, as well. Game of Thrones, Homeland, Star Trek and then there are all our "personal favorites", how much weight that carries might be questionable. And those series I mentioned above are DEFINITELY NOT included among my "personal favorites" and so on. That last part was "fill", what's the problem with less than 10 lines?
Michael Kitchen is mesmerizing. You just get his character. Foyle is respect. He garners it, creates it, and deeply values it. The writing is good, the other actors are basically always great, direction excellent, sets and so on.
What is it about the British?
Touch (2012)
what the?
I seem to be in the vast minority regarding this series. Season 1 was a glimmer of hope, a bright vision amidst so much drudgery, something very different and bold to look deeper at how things really work and present them in a startling new way. Perhaps there is hope for TV? Beautiful. Then Season 2 happened. Woops, such a major abrupt change in a show I have not seen in years. Now rather than hope and joy, we have a graphic murder in every episode! WTF?? And yes, Kiefer can't seem to figure out who he is. Is he Jack. Rather terrible acting I must say, caught betwixt and between. Anyway obviously the money game lurks behind this transition as it always must, musten't it? Or must it? Show me the MONEY! Into the trash with this one.
Touch: Pilot (2012)
awesome
In a word: Finally! Something a bit higher, shall we say, and truly and interestingly thought provoking with an unusual orientation to the bigger picture. We are all the stuff of stars. If a fly sneezes in Australia, does it effect the color of sky in Brazil? Well, yes, to some perhaps miniscule or not so miniscule extent. We are all interconnected, more so than we will ever know, and this series seems to be setting out to explore this truth. Wow. I applaud this effort. Film, whether in movie form or, dare I say, TV, is the new art form. Art in the form of painting? Where is it? Gone, sadly. And there are some instances in movies or... yes, TV where art is actually evident. This show evidences this, if only in it's concept, or the concept or truth that it portrays. May we continue in this direction. Let us rise out of the mud, like the lotus.
