Why though!? It's laughably bad...
24 June 2021
I mean... Honestly I could dissect this abysmal show but what would be the point? Everything about it is bad, so bad that I can't even, I don't understand why anything like this would be green lit in the first place...

2/10 It's utter garbage on so many levels 🤣

Rushed & full of terrible tropes...

C'mon, surely standards are beyond an empty 5 episodes followed by a monologue explaining everything which takes up the entire episode... Yaaaawn.

Great premise but way too slow...
7 June 2021
I really enjoy the concept here, a great mix of events & tropes. Everything from a viral post apocalyptic landscape, to a road trip/journey, to a fantasy reminiscent of Where the Wild Things Are.

But I do have 1 major gripe, it's so damn slow... Without any spoilers, I feel like the end of the first season should've been the midpoint instead. I can't stand drawn out series & this gives off padding vibes left right & centre.

Overall probably worth a watch, but S02 will need to really pick up the pace for story progression! Everything else is pretty spot on, also Nonso Anozie really steals the show!

7/10 for S01.

I needed this 25yrs ago when I was a kid...

So good, I feel like there should be 20+ shows like this & I really do hope they go full on with this project & keep the pacing up too. I only read a few issues back in the mid 00s but this has me wanting to go back & read everything. I have to admit that I wish it had more frames generally , there have been a few sequences where the amount of fps have been increased & it's way more fluid & carries more weight, but I also understand the effort needed to accomplish this is intensive & not really viable yet consistently, either way I want at least 20yrs of this 🔥🤣🖤

Pseudoscientific gibberish...
3 December 2020
A total farse & not at all accurate, it dismisses logical thought in favour of fantastical ideas...

Focuses on Earth like it's the only blueprint available & disregards all other scientific knowledge...

Kept referring to discovered exo-planets as "planets"... Oof...

Atlas is not teeming with life & science already knows this fact!

Discovery is where science goes to die!

2/10... 1 point for the visual department & 1 point for the audio department 🤣

Bright is just an Orcs & fairies Alien Nation...
5 October 2020
Literally, this is the exact same story as Alien Nation... Those that know, know...

I have heard there is an alternate version of this movie now? I've not seen it, or at least I don't think I have!?

3.5/10 A whole lot of Alien/Orc Nation

Gene Roddenberry is turning in his grave...
19 August 2020
This is an utter disgrace & it spits in the face of everything the concept stood for, I use past tense because it seems the full obliteration of Roddenberry's vision is now complete. Nobody wanted this... Nobody asked for this... You are laughing in the face of a legacy & flipping off the fans as you do it!?

I genuinely believe everyone involved in the current warping of everything Trek, should be held accountable for the evil they have done...

Disgusting 0/10 even if not under the Trek banner it's trash...

Absolute trash, not even laughably bad, more cringe bad... I have nothing nice to say about this film, it's direction, script or acting. Great job Kenneth... We all (everyone, even those that are lucky enough to not have seen it) deserve a public apology from Disney!

Unbelievably bad...

This is a lesson in how not to make a movie 101, everything from the soundtrack, camera work, choreography, script, acting, sound design, sound mixing ughhh etc etc etc... It's all abysmal, I had to force my way through it, it was a mistake, don't do what I did, save yourselves! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

1/10 annoying people will annoy!

90% padding...
3 February 2020
After all 16 episodes of season 1 b2b, I have no idea what I just watched... I do know however, that it was extremely boring after the first few episodes. I do not enjoy filler TV... Who does!? It lacks direction, lighting, sound editing, sound mixing, dialogue, script & the writing is superbly subpar! Acting is ok I suppose but can't really judge acting based on a terrible script with abysmal dialogue 🤣

At most 2/10 for a great idea badly executed.

Literally just read the title...

Then read the title again in case you didn't quite get it the first time...

Then read it one more time to be sure!

Worthy of attention!

Loved the simplicity of this tale, brutal & stunningly beautiful from the get-go! Stunning cinematography & excellent camera work. I won't say anymore because I believe going in on this one blind, is absolutely the way to go!

9/10 - Solid ancient & epic tale of revenge.

Yawn...

I didn't like her as a person, not helped by the performance... I didn't sympathise with anything going on in her life either. I appreciate the telling of a person suffering from unique mental health issues, slowly but surely spiralling out of control, but that's the only aspect I feel was even remotely interesting.

4.5/10 - meh

Notable Score & Sound Design!
20 January 2020
The score & sound design push Annihilation from a mediocre telling of a really great script to a worthwhile watch. If you don't know of Ben Salisbury & Geoff Barrow then get to know their unique scoring work pushing newer sound design techniques into the score of everything they touch!

Overall the concept is great but the execution is spotty at best, there are 3 absolutely solid scenes in this film that just have to be respected... The rest... not so much. I do like the early subtle hints in the script at what is to come, with a few not so subtle hints throughout. Other than that it's just the soundtrack that kept me watching.

Solid 7.5/10 - Or a 5 without the brilliant sound design.

Superb...
20 January 2020
Firstly, in my opinion this is an astonishing accomplishment & worthy of note in cinematic history. The camera work is astounding, the editing was incredible & the cinematography stunning... The entire department should be immensely proud of what they have put together! One seemingly continuous shot put together in a similar fashion to Children of Men, but done in a way that the camera always feels controlled & has a more artistic handle on the shot at hand at any given moment. This has to be acknowledged as nothing short of incredible.

I don't condone war & do not adhere to the propaganda of war either, but some of the greatest films ever made have been based on events that without war, could never have existed & that would be a shame... The story here is quite eventful & most couldn't even begin to imagine the sheer horror of being tasked with such a journey through enemy territory, filled with skirmishes & dangers above & around you, never mind just the idea of being there. This film manages to put you right in the thick of how manic, eerie & horrific everything could be & does it superbly.

Definately in my top war epic list, up there with Apocolypse Now, Platoon & Full Metal Jacket etc. It's not the same kind of war film but worthy of the list.

9/10 - 1917 is the best I've seen in years.

Superb epic level cinema...
13 October 2019
Everything from the Sound design, Sound FX & Score, all the way through to the visuals, Visual FX, Choreography, Set design & Cinematography, it is nothing short of superb! Yimou Zhang back to form & showing everyone how it's done. Every member of the cast impresses & helps create an experience that only Yimou Zhang seems to be able to create...

I could go into much more detail about the subtleties & nuances, especially with the score & general sound design, but I'll instead simply recommend this as a must watch for fans of the genre & general viewers alike.

More of this please Yimou Zhang 😉

One man & The Boat!
5 September 2019
If you didn't like this film, then you don't appreciate the subtleties of it's story... It's a slow burner yes, but as I always say "you'll never, under any circumstances, catch me on a boat called Aeolis, ever!". It gets a little frustrating at times & struggles with it's angles & shots on a few occasions, but all in all it's a very well put together indie flick (although a tad expensive for what we get), understandably fair though. It's uneasy & frustrating, which is obviously intentional & I can honestly say it's an entertaining ride 😉

7.5/10 a few more sequences or events would have pushed this to an 8 for an indie film.

I can't stop laughing...
16 August 2018
The more I think about the dreadful acting & the more I read everybody's "reviews" about how this is the best shark movie since Jaws, the more I laugh, i just can't help it, it's amazing how deluded people have become... This is such an entertaining movie for all the worst reasons, i found myself cringing then laughing, then immediately cringing again!? I don't actually want to know how much was spent on this because my mind might crack...

Good day to you all!
