Nashville (2012)
Outstanding
As a fan of music.. Country has always been up there as a favourite and now it's even more so. Following this series which for me is just recently, I've found the value in owning the box set and watching it every day. Gladly this alleviates the waiting from week to week when it's easy to forget how it's going, so the story both grows and unfolds without missing a note.
From the beginning I thought every character was right for the role, and it covers so many aspects of what life is all about, being based around a music community is the added bonus. I'm sure we all hear how rough the music industry can be and this is no exception. Success, failure, fame and fortunes won and lost probably more in this business than any other.
Well written, superbly acted, glitter and panache all mixed up in a hell of a ride. I don't really know that I've ever seen a drama better than this ... ever. I love the music and now own a few of the CDs too..for the car..so top down when the sun shines and I can still recall moments on the move. I'm even hip now with my young nieces who've seen it a few times each.. confirming the audience is reaching those you might not think it would. The attraction of the singing is such that there is no trying to make words sound completely different to what they should.. I cannot understand many of the more recent artists who think tree rhymes with day..! These are genuine artists who can sing and make a very good job of it too..
Highly recommended..
The Blacklist (2013)
Brilliant
An excellent set of episodes - even so far as coming to the end of series 2.
I read with interest the reviews of the critics..especially those of the storyline and then the critics of the actors ..and it never ceases to amaze me how they love to hate a success story. The inevitable slagging off of Agent Keen because they feel she is overpowering her role and ruining the whole programme.. well I ask you..why hate the Lady when she is acting ..the script.. How does the writer wish the role to be played..how does the director wish the role to be played on the final cut.. Clint Eastwood..one of the finest..adjusted himself according to the role.. an obvious charisma throughout his career but then not every film just follows on from the last. I never read the spoilers because I don't read the last page of a book before Ive read the first.. but these critics seem to be aiming at the personalities of the show rather than the plot.. I take it most of the comments of distaste and shock..meant those people switched off rather than carry on watching..or did they just moan for the sake of moaning.. The series seems to have legs..I'm barely half way through and so far..they've all done a pretty good job.. especially the writers..and directors..oh and the producers..who have faith that it all gels rather nicely together..
Ad Astra (2019)
Troubled Reviews
There seems to be lots of wanna be Film Buffs out there who watch films on a Phone and think they're adding to an eBay review panel.. I have no idea what they are watching. Certainly not a drama for sure. It's not supposed to be a copy of a space horror movie but it's a very good special effects portrayal of a story relating to a life in space. There are a few countries attempting to reach the stars to renew generations to follow. Why is this so terrible. It's not full of weird looking Star Wars people or monsters so I guess it's too bad for a lots of the reviews. Sad, I watch most and still thought it was well written and acted.
