Hoarders (2009)
Please get competent psychologists to actually help people
This show could be very good if done correctly, but instead, it's exploitation of vulnerable people done for entertainment and doesn't bother to provide actual help for these individuals with compulsive hoarding disorders. The cleaning crew with specialties in -cleaning- are given the spotlight and private time with these people with severe health problems when they have no credentials whatsoever or training in dealing directly with vulnerable people. The staff episode with Helen illustrated this perfectly, with the moralistic rants and rage directed onto her from the cleaning man who is completely void of compassion. It could be made with a serious tone and actually seek to help people and be an honest and heartfelt exploration of the experiences of hoarders and why they do it and show compassion for their process toward healing their underlying motivations to hoard. This is not what this show is. I am a psychologist trained in ethics in human subjects research and it's a shame that the entertainment industry can do whatever they want for profit.
Flower (2017)
Unpredictable & weird af
As other reviewers say, yes this is unsettling. Like Kids and Welcome to the Dollhouse. I love that it reflects a part of reality that we may never think about or consider. The ending was a little over the top for my taste, but the acting was great. My partner kept asking why Adam Scott would play this role. Because he likes a challenge I guess. All of the acting was really good, especially the main character (first time seeing this actress but her part is beautifully played and believable). The storyline could improve, but we just don't get unpredictable movies anymore! Personally, I'm happy to exchange a good (unrepulsive) plot for an unpredictable plot.
