Haywire (2011)

Just bad... nothing like the trailer
21 January 2012
I went into the theater expecting to see a female Bourne Identity. Perhaps my expectations were too high. The trailer made this movie look amazing and action packed... do not believe the trailer.

Once the movie started, I was a little confused. I kept expecting Haywire to get better, or that it would pick up the pace. It never did. This movie is slow, with very little dialog and the fight scenes were okay, definitely not great. It could have been made into an okay movie if the editing, music or timing were better. It was just slow and awkward. The characters really had no chemistry. In the chase scene, Gina's running was labored. I had trouble believing she was supposed to be a marine. In a few scenes, people did really stupid things. I found myself thinking...Really? I knew that would happen and I'm not a spy... I kept expecting the movie to get better, it was just slow and bad. Don't bother.

Piranha 3D (2010)

Cheesy perfection... for B horror fans only!
22 August 2010
Piranha 3D is the perfect cheesy B-movie! It's hilarious! It's the perfect blend of gore and humor, with a ton of nudity thrown in.

Piranha 3D is not scary. If you want scary, see another movie.

The acting was solid. Jerry O'Connell's character was completely over the top! The only way to describe it is over-acting...again hilarious!

The piranha were really wicked looking, as I'm sure you've seen in the trailer, not fake at all. Some of the gore, was really good and gross. Some not so good, but with the timing and action it worked well.

The water, mountains, and caves were gorgeous. There is actually a decent storyline going on. the first part of the movie gets slow at times. when it's slow it's filled with either quick gore or slow long gratuitous nudity shots. When it stops being slow and hits, it hits hard! It is pure gore!

I know kids watch horror movies, but this movie is not for kids at all. there is so much gore and blood...tissue... bone... muscle... sinew... It's disgusting, very graphic. Then there is tons of nudity. I cannot stress the amount of nudity.

You know if it's your kind of movie or not. I loved it! I screamed and ooohhhhed so much at the gore and grossness. this movie was like a great ride at an amusement park, I want to see it again!

Eat Pray Love (2010)

One woman's journey...
14 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Eat Pray Love is a movie you have to experience for yourself...a story about a woman on a journey to find herself.

After reading the book and loving it, I must say the movie isn't quite as good as the book; close, but not quite. however, it was still a beautiful story and fabulous movie. If you have not read the book, you won't know the difference.

Spoiler: Realizing that her wonderful, almost perfect life, was not at all perfect to her, Liz checks out leaving her perfect home and great guy husband. After another relationship and break-up, she goes on a journey, which is closer to her ideal life... searching for the passion, balance, appreciation, all that is missing from her current life.

The scenery is quite beautiful; it's a gorgeous movie particularly with the locations: Italy, India and Bali. The beauty in aged crumbling structures in Rome mirror the emotional turmoil and crumbling that Liz has goes through to transform, to find herself, forgive herself and just be.

I understand that a lot of people, especially people that are happy and comfortable with traditional life and family do not understand a woman leaving a perfectly nice man that is in love with his wife to go on a journey and find herself. I also realize that many people say that Liz is selfish and it's all about her. Yes. This movie (and the book) is all about her. It is a real story about a woman, searching for something missing in her life. It was refreshing that someone was honest about being unhappy and wanting a different life. Taking the difficult path, the unknown journey and risking everything. I don't do martyrs, so I like Liz.

My favorite part of the movie and my least favorite part of the book... Bali. I love Javier Bardem. The raw emotion he portrayed was heartbreaking to watch and so personal. Although Julia Roberts was her normal charming self, the men, with their small supporting roles, stole this movie. Take a chance, and go see this movie. I do not understand the comments and ratings that it has received so far. It was quite touching and beautiful.

WARNING: this movie will be offensive to most
30 June 2010
Get him to the Greek was comedy perfection. If you liked the last 2 minutes of The Hangover... you may like this movie. However, it is going to be way more than most people will be able to take. This movie is 2 hours of what we had a glimpse of in the photos at the end of the Hangover. It is twisted and sick and I loved every moment of it!

If you are not easily offended, and can appreciate depravity, this may be the movie for you. It contains extreme drug and alcohol use, gratuitous sex and nudity, lots of vomit, and a general lack of respect for women, men, monogamy. Definitely NOT mainstream!

Although it may sound like it's a one dimensional movie, it really had subtle complexities. I am keeping out details as not to spoil anything... At one point, Russell Brand's character, Aldous Snow, was a little tiring. I felt that that was the intent, because the story absorbed it, recovered and I forgot all about it. At another point during the movie, it got insanely funny, milk coming out of your nose funny, and then turned again to something a little different. This time, it got bizarre. I think some people left the theater at this point. It wasn't funny, but I didn't feel like it was trying to be. It seemed as if the intention was to convey the uncomfortableness of the situation. If so, it was done wonderfully.

In the end, I really liked the characters Aldous and Aaron. I cared what happened to them and wanted things to work out for both of them. In spite of the extreme excesses portrayed in Get Him to the Greek, the movie got sweet at the end. it was a good ending to a completely insane movie.

If you like stupid comedies with a little toilet humor and some sex you should like it. Take the movie for what it is... a raunchy, hilarious, good time. Don't take it seriously and no matter what absolutely NO CHILDREN should watch this movie.

It's going on the shelf with my other favorites Dodgeball, Joe Dirt and Old School.

Loved the book... movie not so much
30 June 2010
I devour Twilight books and had to go to the midnight feature opening night of Eclipse. I was so disappointed by this movie. I wanted to love it, but can't even say that I liked it. It just didn't work for me.

The magic of Twilight was missing, as was the suspense and angst of New Moon. Gone were the lingering glances between Bella and Edward. The music that was practically a character in previous movies was absent. Eclipse relied far too much on dialog to tell the story, which with these books, is just not strong enough to completely carry a movie. It's the love story itself that draws us in, not Meyer's actual writing.

The movie itself was bright and clear, which I didn't like; my husband, however, did enjoy this movie better than the others in the saga, with the caveat, "if it didn't have all that talking." This is not saying very much; he didn't really like the other movies. He always commented everything was blue in Twilight or in a fog in New Moon. Eclipse was extremely action heavy, which could be why he enjoyed this movie more than the others.

To me, without the hazy dream-like setting, it was obviously fake. The wolves were cartoony looking and my vampires, oh, my beautiful vampires... their haircuts were horrid. I couldn't fall into this story, as I have in the past. Whatever the vision was that they were trying to create, it was a failure. The powdered skin was obvious and distracting. I wasn't left with a magical feeling.

Eclipse was not without high points, however... Jackson Rathbone (Jasper) was a completely different actor...thank you, thank you, thank you! He was smooth and believable in Eclipse, much improvement over his painful-to-watch performances in the previous movies. Jackson's performance was the highlight of this movie. Ashley Green's(Alice) performance was also spot on. She was light and airy, just as I expect of Alice. Jodelle Ferland, who played the fledgling Bree, was amazing in the few minutes that she was on screen. If I purchase this movie, it will be to re-watch these performances again.

The movie has humor and works the comedic timing. That part was well done for me, but remember that I do love the books. As a whole, I felt like I sat through a high school production. If you are in love with the saga, you are going to see this movie no matter what anyone else says. If you aren't a huge Twilight fan, don't waste your time or money.

I so hope they take their time to create a solid movie and go in a different completely different direction with Breaking Dawn. I would be greatly disappointed if that movie turns out like this one.

Unsatisfying ending
27 November 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was fabulous until the last 10 minutes. it was full of action and real characters. The characters had flaws. Through the entire movie Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) was not a character that I liked or sided with, while Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) was human and easy to empathize with. Although the entire movie required suspension of disbelief, the ending was unfulfilling and implausible given the rest of the movie. It was as if the villain was actually Rice with his corruptness, while Shelton was indeed a law-abiding citizen driven to vengeance by the corruptness of Rice and the justice system. The real disjustice was the ending of this movie. I kept expecting the intelligence shown by Shelton throughout the movie to come to a head in the ending. I was highly disappointed by the anti-climatic ending. Stop the movie about 10 before the end and create your own ending; it will be better than what was on-screen.

Very funny physical comedy
13 September 2009
I loved this movie, but I laugh at lots of stupid stuff. Sandra Bullock, however, got my husband to laugh out loud, which is not too easy a feat.

This is NOT a romantic comedy. It's more physical comedy. It's very silly like an Adam Sandler movie. If you don't like this type of movie, don't go see it. You will be disappointed. I think this is why the movie has such low reviews. People were expecting something different.

I love SB's character, Mary. She is quirky, fun and weird. I love how she just jumps right into a situation. There were so many times in the movie that I just felt embarrassed for Mary. I really liked her character. Steve is probably the most normal character of the entire movie. I didn't connect with his character much. He was more eye candy. His friend Hartman stole the show. the comedic timing was great. There were a ton of crazy characters that are more fringe of society types like the characters in Joe Dirt.

If you like really silly physical comedies, you should like this. If you are looking for Sleepless in Seattle, stay away.

What Happened?
7 September 2009
WHAT HAPPENED? I love mike judge. He is comic genius with Office Space, Beavis and Butthead and King of the Hill. There was no plot to this movie and it was slow. At times it reminded me of Very Bad Things... not the great movie part, the part like knowing something horrible is going to happen and you can't do anything about it, but it never did... nothing ever happened.

There were places the plot could have gone and the movie would have taken a much better turn, it didn't happen. It was just not well though out or developed. I really didn't like any of the characters, which is a shame. This had a pretty strong cast. It was all bad script. I stayed thinking it would get better. It didn't. Don't waste your time.
