Beckham (2023)
Fantastic, engaging and moving
Very interesting to see a completely different perspective on their life. They come across as open and honest, and tackle a number of very personal, sensitive subjects.
Great archive footage of his playing career with some of the most spectacular highs and lows. But also footage of the non footballing moments that have come to define their life.
Remarkably candid throughout and happy to discuss the issues.
There are people in his past who have clearly been a massive support and a number who have sought to undermine him.
One of the best series on Netflix and I would definitely recommend it anyone even if you weren't a fan of him or Man U.
Peaky Blinders (2013)
Moody and magnificent!
Brilliant! Really powerful, great characters, compelling stories. Excellent for a binge watch.
Acting is first class, cinematography is amazing and creates a dark mood to go with the dark stories. Whether it's totally authentic to the period or not is a mute point, as it's a fiction. It feels like it could be and that's what counts.
Some of the violence is a bit shocking but adds to the grittiness of the show.
I'm about to watch series six and can't wait!
Can't agree with or understand people rating this poorly. Perhaps it's cool to be be controversial? The music and occasional slow-mo add to the tension, rather than detracting from it.
Watch it and judge for yourself, certainly look at how many 9/10 ratings not the occasional 3 /4.
From Scratch (2022)
Incredibly moving
Some negative reviews and comments. Ignore them as they don't understand the depth of the acting, the reality of the emotions and the challenge of someone close having a terminal illness.
This is a powerful, moving emotional rollercoaster of a series.
Of course it's easy to say that the lead character didn't look her age. So what? Get over it and look at what this is, a really intensely moving story.
The scenes in Scilly were breathtakingly beautiful and the way that Sicilian cooking was woven throughout the story was beautiful.
There's plenty of trashy series and films out there, watch something emotionally challenging for a change!
Quadrophenia (1979)
Brilliant, the music and the period
Inspired by one of the best albums of all time. A cult movie and a must watch if you have any interest in 60's London or the Who.
Easy to pick faults, for instance the motorbike crash stunts are awful. But this isn't a high budget, Hollywood CGI, piece of forgettable technology. Take it for what it is, a walk through a period of dramatic change within British youth and culture.
The actors at the time were largely unknown, although Sting is certainly one of the most recognisable faces. But many of them went on to successful careers.
I love this film and can honestly say I must have watched it 20 times!
Pirate Radio (2009)
Brilliant!!
Great cast, fantastic music, lots of laughs.
Get the popcorn and wine in, sit back and enjoy.
