Oh but this show continues to be a tear-jerker.. even in re-watching with benefit of knowing what the future provides. Patrick Duffy and the Bobby character was something special. I know many look upon J. R as being the top character, but this series really seemed to have a group of stars that allowed for such great interest to viewers.
Just when viewers thought Pam and Bobby had overcome the hurdles that were put in their way -- by those who claimed to love them -- we see (and hear) it torn down when the machine reduces Bobby's heartbeat to a flat-line. You could sense the great loss from all the actors at bedside. In fact, I truly believe that Steve Kanaly (Ray) was genuinely crying over the loss of Bobby (Patrick Duffy).
At the time, I grew some hope that greatness could continue when Bobby came back a year later. But it was again ripped to shreds when Victoria (Pam) left the show.
In my summary, this was the beginning of the end of Dallas being the great show that dominated ratings. I don't thin there will ever be another show of its kind... and I am grateful for having it to watch on Fridays for so long--
