Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Just not for me
I'm not even sure what to give this movie for star rating, it looks beautiful, the main actress is wonderful and it's pretty much technically stellar, but I think what's missing is the heart of all filmmaking- storytelling- After a while the constant fighting and craziness just wears on you, the first two 'parts' of the movie are just constant fighting and conflict, I must admit at some point I just gave up and zoned out, it started off ok and to be honest I think I would have rather watched a movie with the lead actress struggling to save her laundromat and Jamie lee Curtis the tax person, that actually would have been more interesting.
Edit: 11 nomitations for Oscars, are you freakin kidding me.
Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration (2022)
Terrible
I thought this was going to be a staged version of the movie but I when I saw them in the parking lot I knew I was mistaken, but I guess that's my fault, it wouldn't have been a big deal but I could barely make it through the first number, the girl that played Belle couldn't even sing that great in fact most of the ensemble couldn't sing or act their way out of a paper bag, overall it just paled in comparison to the original or even the 2017 version, Josh groban as usual was great, and was really the only one that was worth any praise, I will say the set design and tech was quite nice, but just a poor attempt otherwise, stick to the original.
The Card Counter (2021)
Where's the card counting??
First, it's not as terrible as some reviewers are saying, its no Mollys Game but it has its moments,,, the real elephant in the room is Tiffany haddish and her 'acting'- she's fine in comedies but here it seemed as if she had the script right in front of her and was just reading right off of it, I'm a little disappointed because Schroeder was director on First Reformed which wasa pretty decent movie, but the Card counter wasn't exactly riveting cinema.
The First Lady (2022)
Thank you viola Davis for providing first rate comedy
Oh man, I haven't laughed like that in ages 😂
The scenes with Michelle and Barack felt like an SNL skit, I was hollering'!! Lol
Seriously though she's a brilliant actress but didn't capture the essence of m. Obama at all.
Tokyo Vice (2022)
Oddly dull and flat
This is a rare miss from HBO, Ansel elgort lacks any charisma to pull off a lead character, the first episode was good but the rest just meander with boring dialogue, someone mentioned that Michael Mann only directed the first episode and I think you can tell, I'll watch the episodes as they are released but can't say I'll remember this show years later.
He's All That (2021)
People rating low because it's a remake
It's not as bad as some people are saying, just another cliche teen movie, If this movie had no relation to she's all that the rating would be higher, it's a cute movie that you can put on to pass time.
The Ultimate Surfer (2021)
Not what I was expecting
Tbh I'm not sure what I was expecting, I thought this was going to be about a group of surfers shredding waves in some ocean- the cast of surfers are very talented, but while I won't go into a long winded review, let's just say most everything about this show is like the wave pool where it's filmed: manufactured.
Love, Victor (2020)
What happened??
Let me start out by saying I really enjoyed the first season, the script was charming, humorous, well paced, it's like the second season has comepletely new writers,,, Anthony Turpel who plays felix nailed his character and was hilarious in the first season but this season now that he's dealing with his manic depressive mom, it leaves very few moments of his iconic comic relief - the coach of the basketball team is very funny but he's only in maybe 2/3 episodes-- there are maybe 2 characters that are decently likeable the rest are one dimensional and so freakin boring, I don't really care about them at all-- the 'I hate you I love you' between victor and Benji that got old after a while, it's like once victor came out this show turned into a gloomy soap opera.
The Big Sick (2017)
Cute & entertaining
I enjoyed it. It starts out slow, but when Emily Gordon leaves the scene (her character annoyed me) and Ray Romano comes it, the move starts firing on all four cylinders. There were some funny parts and quick wit, especially involving Holly Hunter, but it's no Hangover. Still, I actually enjoyed it more than Dunkirk, which IMO is highly overrated.
Dunkirk (2017)
Dumbkirk
I didn't enjoy it,,,visually it's nice to look at and the acting was good, however I had no knowledge of Dunkirk going into this and the plot was confusing to me- one moment it's daytime and the next it's night- the nonlinear time line left me perplexed. With what little dialogue there was I had a hard time understanding the most of the actors because of the accents. Overall a slow and plodding film with good suspenseful moments, but not enough character development for me to care anything about them
Disney's Newsies: The Broadway Musical (2017)
Must see
One of the best movies i've seen in a long time- never boring or slow it kept my attention the entire time and it felt like you were sitting on stage- everything from the cast, plot, acting, singing, the best dancing ever filmed on screen and the smallest details of set design and lighting was the best. Seize the Day and King of New York really brought down the house. All of the Newsies had individual personalities that shone through, especially Ben Cook (Racer), Jeremy Jordan nailed down the protagonist role and I could listen to him sing the phone book, and Kara Lindsay slayed her solo, Andrew Keenan's solo had everyone crying, Steve Blanchard was perfect for the role of the "villain" ,,, I didn't mind paying twice the amount for an Imax ticket because it was so good, From the opening scene in Jack's penthouse, I knew we were in for a treat
Hope this will be put on Blu ray someday
