1899 (2022)

Horrible waste of time

The series started a bit slow but it seemed interesting enough to start watching. I honestly expected it would be some Bermuda triangle mystery.

The episodes are quite dragged out and you get the feeling they added a lot of content just to fill up space. The characters' stories are also fairly random, they go like flashbacks but they are not done in a compelling but in a rather boring way, they are not convincing enough and they don't really make you sympathise with the characters. The episode 6 is especially painful to watch - beware, the boredom slashes here!

The last two episodes are a complete disaster. It is like someone was joking when they wrote the script. Whatever you watched before loses sense here as the series gets the (unfortunately quite predictable) worst possible turn and the characters just run around in a pointless race, acting irrationally, making ridiculous decisions.

Finally, the main character decides to wake up from this bewildering nightmare which she had for no reason at all. Fun excluded too.

Do NOT watch it - anything else you do with your time is better than wasting it on this nonsense.

Isolation (I) (2015)

Ridiculous

I expected much better movie based on the description. But what I saw was just a ridiculous story with so many plot-holes (neighbors acting like maniacs, jokingly threatening the guy with a bottle opener; a maniac who shoots around the island but doesn't shoot the main character - instead, he takes him to a boat ride to kill him in the middle of the ocean (why?!), then the pirate doesn't kill him but leaves him in the water surrounded by sharks, and this guy manages to swim back to the island, unharmed, with great orientation and speed; then the wife is so soundly asleep she doesn't wake up when the pirate approaches her and starts kissing her; she had time to put on sandals when she escaped (or she was sleeping in those?); she manages to avoid so many bullets shot at her and eventually she manages to kill her pursuer; the husband knocks down the pirate and ties him with the loosest knot I've ever seen; the pirate then manages to sneak into the escape boat without them noticing, then he beats the husband but leaves him alive and on the boat; and then again tries to rape a woman, just before they manage to push him off the boat where sharks then eat him; there is also a ridiculous scene when the woman finds the fresh blood on the sheets indicating the pirates killed someone there, but there is no body, there was supposed to be noone else on the island and if someone was killed why noone was looking for those missing people).

If this was even remotely based on real events, I'd be more likely to believe the main characters had some psychological issues and went on a killing spree, killed all of those islanders, and then came up with this ridiculous cover-up story that noone would believe it's true.

The Haunting of Hill House (2018)

Such a waste of time

I don't know why I watched this series. The first 3 episodes were promising and then it started declining into the most ridiculous ending. It's a complete waste of time. Please don't make the same mistake as I did.

The Unforgivable (2021)

Good movie, but...

I liked the acting, the flow, the picture. It is a bit of a slow burner, but it keeps the attention, despite guessing correctly at the very beginning what actually happened. And that is what leads to the one thing I really didn't like, which spoiled the rating a bit - why would anyone make such a terrible decision to make an absolutely obvious and provable accident look like a first degree murder, ending in a 20-year imprisonment and separation from the only person you care about in the whole world?! And the person who caused an accident is a 5-year old, who has no memory whatsoever of what has happened, and who ended up all alone, and was just lucky enough to get adopted by good people?! It makes no sense, noone would do such a thing, ruining two lives for no reason.

Blood Born (2021)

Surprisingly and unpretentiously enjoyable

If you love the high end production and a lot of gore moments, this movie might not really be for you. The budget is low, there is no fancy animation, but what i loved is that it doesn't look cheap and i really enjoyed how it got me into the story. It's unpretentiously enjoyable. It was not boring, not even for a second, and the acting (the main cast) was quite good actually.

As for the genre, it's not really a horror, and it even has some funny elements (the granny is so cool in her strict rules and madness). And the story reminds me of Stephen King's books, with a bizarre twist at the end.

The only thing that sort of left loose is the opening scene which pretty much has nothing to do with the rest of the movie. But if you disregard that one, you'd be enjoying an unexpectedly cool bizarre story. And the plot have much more sense than most blockbuster movies - i could totally imagine people reaching the same decisions and reacting the same way in real life.

Yep, i would even watch it again. Therefore - a solid 8.

Alias Grace (2017)

Great storytelling but disappointing end

The series is great until the very end, when they rushed it and pretty much ruined everything by leaving no satisfactory conclusion nor resolution. I loved the main character, she makes such a great psycho on moments with her comments. Her storytelling is compelling, like Scheherazade she's buying her time seducing the listener. Pity the ending was not a bit more meaningful.

Knives Out (2019)

When I first saw the trailer i was thinking - this sounds very much like a la Columbo movie I've already seen and i didn't expect much, despite the cool cast. To my surprise the film was very entertaining, with funny moments and i found myself enjoying it quite a lot. Nicely done, I'd recommend it. 😊
