Christine (2016)
Non Stop Wackiness
Rebecca Hall turns in a hilarious performance as a the Misfit reporter of a ubiquitous (but real) 70's Newstation.
Everyone from the buffoonish News Director (an outstanding Tracy Letts) to the slick News Anchor (Michael Hall) try their darndest to set her straight on her job--"News" is just a hook for selling advertising, the revenue from which is sole reason for the Newstations existence and the only reason they have jobs.
But try as she might, she cannot seem to understand this simple concept and insists that her job is something more.
The conflict between the reality of her job and her idealized vision of it eventually leads to an outcome that is as unpredictable, as it is funny. Not to be missed!
Would be a great double feature with "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy".
Loch Ness Monster of Seattle (2022)
Abysmal, Amateurish Video Account of A Mythical Seattle Sea Monster
At 61 minutes, this not a feature film--it's not an actual horror movie either, more of an assemblage of poorly lit and blocked footage assembled into a story about an evil white man "hunter" and gun nut, who for some reason wants to kill the titular creature.
The producer/director/writer (same person) also threw in some story details about pollution, exploitation of the environment by the white man, a confusing documentary section about alleged sightings of the creature 100 years ago.
The music is actually pretty good, not surprising as the man behind the picture is mostly known for his music career, rather than his film making skills.
Not worth anyone's time unless they want to see footage of Seattle's Lake Washington, Mercer Island etc.
Even as a no-budget, "monster" movie, there are many other features for free out there that are better, if you want to kill some time.
Licorice Pizza (2021)
Self indulgent, Nepotistic tripe
How you feel about this PTA movie, probably depends a lot upon how you regard his earlier efforts. That said, the amateurish performance from the sons and daughters of famous actors (ability and talent are not inherited) lessens the effect of unfocused rambling plot.
PTA has enormous talent but lacks the critical eye and objectivity to filter the good from the bad in his own films and this is probably his least effective, coherent movie to date. Looks pretty though.
Better Watch Out (2016)
Misleading, ludicrous and implausible script.
Creepy psycho twelve year hold murders his babysitter and others. Pacing is weak.
At no point is it scary. It just plods along in a in an implausible but still predictable way. You'll be looking at your watch while wondering which clueless agency is representing the protagonist, so they can be avoided.
The "twist" is revealed 25 minutes in. Hateful and strangely dull movie.
