Thin Lizzy: Outlawed - The Real Phil Lynott (2006)
Compelling story
Not much is know really about the man Phil Lynott most remember "The Boys Are Back In Town" This is a very well produced show.
This is an amazing recount of the life of Phil Lynott especially the early years; Lynott was a man whose talent is acknowledged universally but whose early life of poverty is less well documented.
We're treated to a rare insight and a remarkably frank interview by his mother Philomena, who speaks fondly of her famous son, ranging from her trauma in the early years to the devastation of finding him close to death just 37 years later; the revelations are incredibly moving and remarkably informative.
Viva Joe Strummer: The Clash and Beyond (2005)
A Fitting film
This well crafted film covers all aspects of Joe's life from the early years, with the 101'ers, in the wonderful Clash and after the split. It features great footage, and heartfelt tributes and recollections from lots of friends and musicians including Mick Jones and "Topper" Headon. All give insights into the man, not the myth. This is not just a rehash of the Clash story. The footage of Joe and Mick Jones playing live for the first time in 20 years at Brixton is remarkable the two were never meant to separate! The DVD finishes with the clip from "Rude Boy" with Joe singing alone at the piano, which was always one of the more poignant moments on the movie.
Alien Autopsy (2006)
Ant & Dec champion the return of Ealing Comedy
There is nothing to dislike in Alien Autopsy. Ant and Dec are compelling in a story with many twists and turns. It looks a little low budget but that sort of adds to the charm of the film.
It's interesting when a film can work without violence, sex, drugs and Rock 'n' Roll.. If you are wondering what's left, well In this case a great story that doesn't need to be propped up with special effects and cheap shots. The best scene in the film in when Dec has to present the remade Alien film to the Drug Baron. The end is also interesting if the film is really based on true facts.
Alien Autopsy is worth giving up a Saturday night for.
