Imaginary (2024)
Painfully Bad
I went into this movie thinking "Huh, this looks like a bad movie, I'll go watch it for some laughs".
Well let me tell you that it's worse than you could ever imagine.
The acting is horrible from almost everyone except the husband (who has about 15 min of screen time), the movie forgets that it's supposed to be a horror movie half way in.
They started with some small tension, small scares and then it became basically a children's fiction story for no reason???
Afterwards it seemed like the director remembered it's supposed to be a horror and threw in random low effort "scary" scenes, topped it off with a painfully obvious plot twist only to then finish the movie in almost the same way it would have ended without the plot twist.
How do these movies even make it to cinemas?
Who gave the script a green light?
If you haven't watched the movie and are thinking of watching it, don't. It's not entertaining at all.
And if you already watched it, I'm sorry that we both wasted our time on this burning pile of garbage.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Some of Nolan's best work yet
I've watched almost all of Christopher Nolan's movies, yet only the Dark Knight tops Oppenheimer.
I had put this movie into my watchlist backlog ever since it came out and always thought that it would be a boring cliche movie that I wouldn't be able to sit 3 hours through. Well I was wrong.
The movie's strongest sides are the storytelling, acting, score and cinematography. I really cannot think of a negative aspect to associate with it, even though many people suggest the movie is too long, I personally fully disagree.
3 hours sounded like a chore yet I didn't move a single muscle once I started the movie, it was phenomenal from beginning to end.
Storytelling - Very well paced, every character felt well explained and each story had just the right amount of screen time to deliver the emotions that the director wanted to give to the audience.
Acting - Top tier acting largely down to the amazing casting choice for the movie. Each actor made an outstanding performance, but I must especially mention Robert Downey Jr. And Cillian Murphy's phenomenal performance, they are some of the greatest actors of our generation.
The Score - I cannot put into words how mouthwatering the music was in Oppenheimer.
The music was always so loud yet it fit so well with every situation. I felt genuine concern and tension solely because of the music, the best I can explain it is that you could always hear it yet never fully notice it.
Cinematography - No words needed, it's an aesthetic beauty. But this is well known for Nolan movies so is anyone truly surprised?
All in all it is subjectively my favorite Nolan movie and I could watch it again tomorrow without thinking twice.
Must watch!
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Movie of the year
We waited 5 years for a sequel and let me tell you, it was worth it.
This movie had me glued to my seat for the entirety of it's runtime. I loved everything about this movie hence why I rated it a 10.
Animation: The animation was breathtaking, it never seized to amaze me. It is so obvious from the get go that the people behind this movie put in so much time and effort to create what's probably the best spiderman adaptation that exists. Without the talent and dedication from the animators, this movie wouldn't even be half as good.
The plot: Superb all in all, everything tied together very well and I enjoyed how we had 2 storylines at the same time that get tied together, which makes the whole story that much better and immersive. I'm sad that we have to wait another 3-5 years for the next one but at least we know it will be perfect.
The characters: They perfectly captured spiderman's charm and humor. The small differences they showed in each spiderman was really fun to see as well.
All in all this movie took what the first one did well and made it basically perfect. This is the first time I've come out of the theater without any cons to list. If you haven't watched the movie yet, DO IT NOW!
Groundhog Day (1993)
A story about finding yourself
The movie shows a news reporter that is stuck reliving the same day.
That's the basis of the whole movie but what makes the movie stand out from other movies with the same idea and other romantic movies is the sub plot of Phil.
The movie is actually about a man who does not like himself or his own life and throughout this movie he starts to slowly change his ways and his attitude towards life, he begins to appreciate life so much more and he sees the small beauties in everyday life. So in actuality the story is about the character development of a broken man and thus making him the best verison of himself. We can all take some kind of lesson from this movies so that we enjoy our own life more, but the story was told so well and was paced brilliantly. You could genuinely tell how the character felt in every moment, this is also largely down to the actors but still a phenomenal job from everyone that took part in the movie.
The only part I didn't like is how Rita was presented at the end, she just suddenly falls madly in love after having known him for 1 day.
It kind of broke the immersion you feel with her character as they just made her fully in love in the space of a few hours. It may be a slight nitpick but for a movie to be perfect it must have almost no flaws and alongside what I mentioned it also had a few small issues that don't matter much.
All in all this is one of the best rom com movies I've ever seen, I highly recommend it.
Fleabag (2016)
Some of the best paced storytelling you'll ever see
This show was absolutely fantastic in every aspect, top to bottom. At first it seemed like it was going to be some random British comedy but I couldn't have been more wrong. The rollercoaster of emotions that this show gives you is unlike any other show I've watched, every 20 minute episode felt like it's own movie, that's how amazing it was.
The strongest part of the whole show was undoubtedly the storytelling, it has amazing twists and turns, some expected and some extremely unexpected. The pacing of it wall was just perfect, nothing felt rushed nor did it feel slow. It really is a breathtaking story, both seasons can be watched as separate stories.
The acting was also a big plus, you could feel the emotion of every character, every little action, movement, gesture had some kind of message or meaning behind it. A really fantastic job overall from every actor in the show.
I am a sucker for shows or movies that have multiple little stories within the relationships between the characters and this one did not disappoint. There were so many layers to each character and relation, even the most unlikable characters had so much to express. Really amazing work from the writers.
The humor was great as well, I enjoy British humor so it was right up my alley.
This show is a must watch, there's no other way to say it. It will take you on a short but breathtaking journey that will leave you feeling fulfilled.
I really have nothing bad to say about this show, it is perfect!
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
A must watch masterpiece
This movie had so many twists and turns, it was an absolute joy to watch, an emotional rollercoaster. The whole movie you felt as if you were the one living it.
The cinematography was breathtaking, every scene felt unique, every transition flawless, every moment special. The people who worked on this movie really put blood sweat and tears into it and you can feel it throughout the entire film.
The movie has so much more depth to than it seems at first, it takes you on a wonderful ride with great acting, a breathtaking story and all in all feels very complete and well planned.
The only negative in the movie was I'd say some of the humor, it felt slightly forced but still none the less it is a must watch movie which might just help you search for a way to relate to some situation in the movie.
The movie told a lot of small stories in a very well designed manner.
As a final note I would like to say that I went into this movie expecting a simple, generic comedy movie but I was extremely surprised by what it is.
Chocolat (2000)
Simply a masterpiece
This movie had let's say a "generic" story, but the way it was told made you genuinely feel for every character in the film.
The acting in this movie, the scenography, the locations, almost everything was perfectly executed in this story about learning to live your life differently to old traditions.
Each character had an amazingly paced development. And each character had to forget past traditions to finally let go of the unneeded weight on their shoulders. Other than the obvious (the town), we also saw Vianne learn to let go of her mother's tradition so that she may finally feel at peace with herself without worrying about straying from her mother's ways.
The humanity shown in each person was very well put, especially Vianne and Josephine but I will get to Josephine in a moment. Vianne could be seen barely holding out hope for the village for the entirety of the movie, all until she gave up when she felt the blame be put on her for Armanda's death. The scene where she tries to force her daughter to leave with her put me tears, especially in the stairwell when the vase broke and spread all the ashes. The acting, pacing, drama was immense in that moment. You could feel the pain, sadness, distraught in Vianne, and the fear in her daughter. The acting was so phenomenal in those scenes that I had goosebumps on my whole body.
Now Josephine was my favorite character in the movie, she was presented to be the weird crazy lady that no body wants to talk to, but Vianne saw through that and you could slowly see Josephine's walls break down, piece by piece until she was finally presented as her true self, free of any judgment. The movie also did a brilliant job to show how even though she is now healthier psychologically, the scars could ultimately return at any point, with this we also saw her realize her true strength, she realized that she wasn't some empty shell of a woman that you had to pity but that she is quite the opposite.
As a last note I'd like to add that this movie did not hold back when it came to showing a dark side of itself. We had the boat being set on fire, the domestic abuse, Aramanda willingly giving up on living in a way, the altercation between Vianne and her daughter. The movie had so many dark moments that you do not realize solely for the reason that they made you feel completely involved in the movie.
I do however dislike how Roux was used in this movie, I do not think he should be on the cover ( I know that he is there because he boosts the movie but still). Every other character could have been better suited to be on the cover alongside Vianne since the movie lets about 20 different sub stories which have more of an impact that Roux.
None the less other than Roux I loved everything else about the movie and I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't watched it ( Yes this is a spoiler filled review I am talking about people not on imdb atm ).
Wednesday (2022)
Just kept getting more interesting
So before I start I just wanna say that I understand why some people dislike this show or would give it lower than a 10, if it was any other character other than Wednesday then I would probably give it a 7 or an 8. But for me it was just such a joy to watch, it sucked me in and I finished the whole season in 2 sittings.
I really enjoyed how Jenna Ortega portrayed Wednesday Addams, she really made her feel like she has room to grow yet would still stick to her core principles. In older adaptations we would normally see the show/movie be more linear and just give you short and random fun. But here it was obvious that they wanted the character to grow a very small amount so that it feels more real and modern.
The colors, scenery, acting by Jenna Ortega was all phenomenal. The story was solid, had the story been dragged on then it would have been very stale but it was always quick to the point and refrained from becoming repetitive.
Now about the negatives which would normally outweighs the positives had the shown not been my style (talking about the concept, not about being goth).
The show still had classic Netflix cliches which was realistically unavoidable but in this show it was bearable which I can't say for most Netflix shows, so for the people who don't like the show because it feels like a teen drama, I fully understand this reasoning and it is quite valid to dislike the show for this. For me the only 2 main issues I had were: the huge amount of inspiration they took from Harry Potter and the acting from most of the other characters (especially Tyler).
The Harry Potter style really is hard to miss, I just purely didn't like that they didn't do something a bit more original. Now the acting and my god was it as some points horrible. I couldn't stand how monotone Tyler was, he always spoke like all of his muscles were tense and could barely move his mouth, I just couldn't stand him but maybe that's just me. The rest of the cast was okay with each having a few weak moments and a few strong ones but most of them had no depth in their acting and were just so linear and repetitive at times.
I know this all may not sound like I'd give this show a 10/10 but given the fact that I rushed to finish it solely down to how addicted I was, I really don't think it would be fair to give it anything less than a 10.
A.P. Bio (2018)
Very underrated comedy
I accidentally stumbled upon this show and was bored enough to give it a shot. Now I find myself writing this review at 2 am and halfway through season 1. The comedy is absolutely perfect and it really gets to me for whatever reason. It's got it's fair share of subtle and blatantly obvious successful attempts at comedy. Bare in mind that this show is not meant to have some deep meaning but it has good humour to lay off some steam. There is slight character development, enough to keep you watching and feel included in the show.
Overall everyone should give this show a shot, I also felt that it's similar to The Good Place in it's style just minus the captivating story.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
This movie gains your attention and keeps it for the entire runtime
I am slightly late to the party with this movie since it is from 2004, but I must say that this movie is absolutely perfect. Top to bottom I could not see a flaw with this movie, at multiple points in the film I kept asking myself: How does someone come up with this idea and execute it to perfection?!
The entire cast managed to tell 5+ stories at the same time in only 1 hours and 45 minutes. Today, most franchises use a whole trilogy to tell a story that has 10% of the weight that this movie does.
It does such an amazing job to get you intrigued, then confuse you and lastly make everything so obvious and complete. When I watch movies, the ending has to be amazing for me to give a 10/10. Ending are in my opinion just as important as the whole story and this ending left me without a single piece of criticism. I'd love to review the story and how deep everything is but I tend to lean away from spoiler reviews.
If you were like me and have been putting off watching this movie for no reason, drop whatever you're doing and go watch it right away.
Uncharted (2022)
Good movie from a person who hasn't played Uncharted
I've never gotten to play the Uncharted games so my review is from the perspective of "I just wanna watch a fun movie", and I got just that.
The story tracked along well, nothing really felt rushed and each character had their time to shine alongside Drake. Drake also wasn't one dimensional, he actually learned his lesson throughout the movie.
The only things I didn't like were the fight scenes and cgi. The cgi was mediocre in most cases and the fight scenes were just too confusing. Too much was going on at once and you couldn't really tell who's fighting who.
I've read that most people didn't care for the characters and I don't understand why. You're not really meant to care for Sully most of the time and both Chloe and Drake were well put together but then again I can't compare them to the original characters in the games.
Another negative was honestly the villian, he felt very boring and one dimensional.
Highly recommend the movie if you want an action movie and you haven't played the games.
Cha Cha Real Smooth (2022)
Amazing story about love
I went into this no expectations but I was quite pleasently surprised. Every character felt like they had real weight and value in the story. Every connection felt genuine and real. I must say that this is not a love story, it's a very real story about love. I think everyone can see themselves in at least one of the characters in the movie. Amazing acting performances from everyone, I especially liked the protagonist's mother's acting. This movie has a lot of good lessons for all of us, it has good humour in the right moments and I recommend everyone to give the movie a chance.
Moon Knight (2022)
One of the best Marvel shows ever
Fantastic, top to bottom. The show started off semi-cliche, slow and a bit boring at times but it really kicked off in episode 4. They did an incredible job of gradually pointing us towards the answer of the whole show. I loved how there were multiple main storylines, I extremely liked the psychological side of the show.
I really loved how the show kept me guessing up until the very end, it was cryptic and I am here for it.
The Batman (2022)
A pleasant surprise
This movie had everything a good movie needed, great action scenes, a billionaire that doesn't care about his well being and most importantly a great villain. Honestly this movie was amazing, all it was missing was a few more action scenes and it would have been a 10 for me. This movie gives dark knight vibes which I like (I'm not saying it's as good as dark knight). Robert Pattinson is a surprisingly good Batman, I always knew he was a good actor but never saw him as a good Batman but here we are. The music, scenery, story I mean everything was great and expected and it's a must watch in your local cinema.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Best of the 3
I'll keep it short and simple so that I avoid giving spoilers. The movie has good humour, a good story and great action scenes. The only reason I gave it a 9 and not a 10 is because of how much i disliked the begining, it was very nonsensical and with a better beginning the movie would definitely be a 10/10.
The Big Bang Theory (2007)
Good sitcom but very over the top and boring at the end.
The first few seasons were very good but after season 6/7 the story just became dull and character development seemingly disappeared for everyone except Sheldon. The dark humor is good, but that's the only positive I have after binging the show well other than that it's also fun to watch. The factors that made me give the show a 6 are: Not knowing how to keep a moment serious except for the last episode (they just have to add a stupid laugh track when it should be a serious moment), unrealistic relationships, I mean only Sheldon found someone with whom he has similar interests, Penny married Leonard out of pity and Bernie married Howard ,well no one knows why, since they clearly don't find them as attractive as other men so why should you settle for someone out of pity? It's a very bad thing to show people who are looking for love. Settle for someone who completes you, not someone who makes your loneliness go away. And my final rant is the repeated movements that the male characters do all the time, Raj looks confused and puts his hands up, Leonard squints, Howard does random movements with his head, Sheldon was actually the best in this category since he never really repeated something so that he gets into character. The character development just got mashed in the last 2 episodes as if the writers forgot how long the have until the end. If it ended at season 5/6 it would have honestly been better.
Taxi Driver (1976)
No point
There is literally no point in this movie,a man who drives a taxi is lonely so it all culminates to him going completely insane and killing some people,it really has no point,no real story,I understand it only became popular because it was the first of it's kind but i hasn't aged well at all.Joker is the main movie that i can compare this movie to,since it is a decent into madness esc film,Joker had everything that this kind of a film needed,a reason, and a slow decent, this wasn't really slow and it most definitely doesn't have a viable reason. Loneliness is the only factor and it's blown way out of proportion.I expected to be amazed but the only amazing thing was De Niros acting which alone saved the movie from being a 2 or 3
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
Simply Astonishing
This is my favourite show on television right now ,it is action packed, interesting, every kind of character for every kind or viewer, (5 is my personal favourite but Klaus is a close second),they kinda messed up Vanya as she is very unlikable but one thing that really hasn't been talked about enough is the Swedish brothers, I'd give anything to talk to whoever orchestrated the scenes with the Swedish brothers,i quite literally felt the brother's pain especially the last one,the acting was phenomenal and the Sweeds just left a special mark for me,but other than that every character had its flaws and positives which i liked since it kept them normal and not perfect people with no feelings. A must watch for any person who likes superheros
The Babysitter (2017)
When you understand the movie it's very fun and light
This movie should not be taken seriously as it is obviously satire and not one person who left a bad rating understood that...I understand if satire movies aren't for you but don't leave a bad rating when you don't get the point.
