Mystic River (2003)
What kind of ending was that?
The first 3/4 of this movie are really good. Tim Robbins is fantastic, Bacon & Penn are solid, and the mystery/tension of the plot was perfect. That is... until the twist is revealed. There were SO many different directions they could've taken, the kid killed her to get revenge for his father, or because his brother was leaving him for her. But nope- they "accidentally" chased her down and killed her. Besides, the real problem is the tone at the end. Everyone is so happy, Laura Linney's character spouts this bs about "the king does what he has to do", Bacon & Penn smiling. You know, like the saddest thing in the movie didn't just occur 5 minutes ago. I just feel so let down. They had me on the ropes, and then proceeded to drop me off the cliff:(
1917 (2019)
Is it really that good?
Allow to rain on your parade movie lovers, because this acclaimed film to me is just kinda average. Now of course, the visuals and the cinematography are next level, truly pulling off the time period of WWI. However, it all falls flat when it comes to the story. Some of my favorite war films like Saving Private Ryan & Dunkirk have interesting characters and events that keep your interest. This movie does not. None of the encounters or events keep me intrigued, mainly because I didn't really care about the main character or if he succeeded. I had high expectations for a film that some were calling to be put among the best war films of all time. Yet I'm disappointed, and will stick to the other classics.
Judas and the Black Messiah (2021)
Sadly disappointing
I was really looking forward to this movie because of it's promising plot and it's two co-stars: LaKeith Stanfield and Daniel Kaluuya. However, this movie just isn't as good as some say it to be. Mainly because the character development is painfully under baked and rather shallow approach to it's several interesting messages. People say the two actor's performances are amazing...... are they? Kaluuya seems very dedicated yes, but the writing is not. Stanfield was just given horrible character development and writing. And the FBI guy is kinda useless. They introduce ideas but never go as far to show them. It's sad to say this, but it's the truth in my mind at least.
Fracture (2007)
Disappointing
Good:
*Anthony Hopkins is creepy & mostly well written
*I really like the idea of a man defending himself against a wealthy lawyer, very creative
*Dirty cop character has great motive
Bad:
*Struggles to keep your interest the whole time
*Dialogue is garbage
*Gosling's character is... eh
*Rosamund Pike's character is pointless
Unfortunately, this movie is nothing special and totally forgettable. Probably forget about this one within a week.
Stroker Ace (1983)
Smokey & The Bandit without Any Soul
My dad grew up watching this movie, so of course he's in the category of the middle aged men who see this as a nostalgic classic. Thankfully I'm not stupid and realize how boring and cringey the first half of this movie is. Yes, I said first half as the second half saves this movie and raises it to below average tier. But I would never watch this again, I'll just stick to Smokey & The Bandit thank you very much.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Mediocre: Not good, but not horrible
I was honestly surprised when I saw this movie had a 5.4. Mainly cause this movie's not even bad enough to be considered terrible. It's just... there. Don't get me wrong, it's a definite downgrade from the really good first Wonder Woman movie. But let's look at the good & the bad.
Good:
-Gal Gadot is awesome
-Great opening scene
-Kristen Wig isn't too bad (trust me, that's a good thing)
-Pedro Pascal is actually pretty good despite the poor writing for his character
-I like the premise of being careful what you wish for
-Action is solid when it's there
-Awesome cameo at the end
Bad:
-Way less action then the first
-Does not earn 2 & half hour runtime
-I didn't care about Diana & Steve this time around
-Max Lorde's writing and character development was terrible
-Visuals were downgraded for some reason
-Pretty pathetic endgame
This movie is just....meh. Serious step in the wrong direction DC, watch yourself
Inside Man (2006)
Should be much better than it is...
I wanted to like this movie, I really did. It had: -Great Clive Owen performance -Cool thought out plot w/ a twist -Really tense and exciting scenes at times However: -Denzel sucksssss and I hate saying that because I love him
- Jodie Foster's character is pointless
- Boring filler in between exciting parts
