Westworld: Decoherence (2020)
Derivative Clockwork Orange
William and a sad, lacking copy of the Ludovico Technique. Kubrick already showed us the Ultra Violence and aftermath.
Dolores read everyone's profile, but she didn't pick up one book about 20th century dictatorships. Please, just strap her to a chair and make her watch the Great British Baking Show. Nice, calming, humans.
Westworld: The Mother of Exiles (2020)
A basket full of tropes
Shaving an enemy, perilously close to cutting a throat. A masked Bacchanalia. Boring, boring, boring. No more new ideas. And Dolores is a rehashed antihero, slick hair, red lip, all black wardrobe. The 90's called and want their trope back. The writers don't trust the audience's sophistication or intelligence.
Jane the Virgin: Chapter Eighty-Three (2019)
Alright, enough.
I wish an actually Catholic was a writer on the show. Catholics can, in fact, get divorced with no guilt at all. We don't have to be stuck in marriages where we're physically and or emotionally assaulted, pining away for the day our abuser dies so we can finally be rid of the horrible bonds of marriage.
The show is over, I know, so nobody is going to read this. But next time get at least one writer that was born after Vatican Two.
Better yet, I have a friend who is a nun that consulted with Days of Our Lives for costume continuity and letting the writers know what a nun would or wouldn't say or do. How about calling the Archdiocese? I know production companies have to call for location authority, which this show must have done because some of the church scenes look like they were shot at St. Monica's in Santa Monica or Christ the King off Melrose.
Rafael is OBSESSED with Catholics going to hell and whatever 19th century prospective is painted all over the script. Seriously, it's hard to find a nun teaching anymore. Also, the nuns that taught me and my sisters don't wear habits anymore.
I thought this show was a funny show with funny Catholics doing funny things. But what attracted me to the show now makes me want to gag. I'm sure having scary church stuff is good for ratings, but this is the last season - why be so ignorant - unless you don't care about the Hispanic-Catholic audience that was a target audience for ratings in the first place.
