Supernatural: Inherit the Earth (2020)
Loved it.
Absolutely poetic. I loved it. Couldn't agree less with the 1-star reviews.
NCIS: Los Angeles: Raising the Dead (2020)
Swing and a miss
You can't build tension between two characters who supposedly have a long history in a single episode by simply telling us they have a long history.
You can't fully communicate terror from past trauma with a face so botoxed that the forehead and eyes don't move.
And you can't create a nod to the Black Lives Matter movement by manufacturing an awkward conversation in the woods over a "mansplaining moment"
This episode FEELS as though they were trying to create a Jane vs the Surgeon (Rizzoli and Isles) moment, but they've missed through rushed execution.
Designated Survivor: One Year In (2017)
What a fizzer
The finale of season 1 built and built only for an "and they caught the baddies the end" in the last few minutes, which left me wondering what I'd just watched. So I rolled onto 2.1 hoping to pick up the intrigue and closure I felt 1.21 was lacking, and all I got was hand-wringing and chest-beating American patriotism. Ugh! I was hooked into this show because of its unique approach and human portrayal of a person in an unimaginable situation. That it has fallen back to the "America is wonderful and we must tell the world how wonderful we are" crap has left me wondering whether I should invest in season 2, or just cut my losses now.
The Good Place (2016)
Love this show!
Quirky, irreverent, funny. I just forking love this show! (If you haven't watched it yet, that gag will have fallen flat).
It's such a shame that seasons 3 & 4 are plagued by that character with the fake Australian accent, which as an Australian just grates on me.
Van Helsing: No 'I' in Team (2019)
Skip it.
Adds zero to the overall story, and is completely unrelated to any of the episodes seen so far.
It felt like one of those "we're contracted to produce x number of episodes so let's quickly make something up to pad it out".
Biggest waste of time since the one where Vanessa spent the episode hanging from a hook.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Once More, with Feeling (2001)
Make it stop!!!
The musical was a miss.
The songs completely distracted from the story being told, their composition flimsy, and their performances cringe-worthy.
I squirmed with discomfort when attempting to watch this episode, and it's left me feeling just...yuk.
Let's never speak of this again.
Prodigal Son (2019)
SHOULD be one of our favourite shows
Fantastic premise for a show, but each episode leaves us more and more frustrated and annoyed by the script writing. Characters are somewhat two-dimensional, plots that should be developed and explored are glossed over and instead of planting clues throughout the episode, the protagonist just pulls arbitrary generalisations out of thin air and wraps everything up into an unsatisfyingly neat bow whilst the mother flaps about on the periphery and the sister crashes through life on a self-absorbed and petulant quest for goodness-knows-what.
Losing us fast.
