Dracula (2020)
Interesting and brave retelling of old story
Anyone who thinks this is going to be a reworking of the old Dracula films or stories are going to be disappointed. This is a great reimagining bringing it up to the 21st century rather than it stopping in the Victorian era. I felt the idea of questioning why vampires are afraid of certain behaviour and items such as crucifixes etc is explored. Dolly Wells very dry and clever nun/scientist is a great foil and she is totally unafraid. There is also reference made to original characters such as Quincy, Jack, Arthur and Lucy just played in a different way. I really enjoyed it. I'm just sorry some people just didn't get it and criticised it for not being what they expected. Give it a chance and watch it with unbiased eyes. Claas Bang is just brilliant and right for the main role.
The Craft: Legacy (2020)
Lazy
I watched this straight after the original. No spark at all. I loved the original with it's build up. This was lazy. Totally disjointed. No subtlety whatsoever. Not really any magic. Just a lot of arm waving. If you want telekinesis watch Stranger Things. There was nothing to redeem it. Just killing off the antagonist was lazy. Why not deplete his powers instead which would have been a more interesting twist. Fairuza Bulk's appearance was ridiculous. Just a reason to tie it to the original. Don't bother. You'll be disappointed. As someone else mentioned. All the lads seemed the same so trying to work out who was who was a waste of watching time as if there needed to be another reason.
Casino Royale (1967)
The original Austin Powers
This is meant to be a spoof not a Bond film no more than Austin Powers is a James Bind film. It is not supposed to be taken seriously. Just take it for what it is, a silly film with lots of famous people.
Bananaman (1983)
Surreal
I've just binge watched all The Goodies episodes so decided to relive my childhood with this. It would possibly stand up as a Goodies invention it's so surreal. I can actually see them doing this rather than it being a cartoon.
Frozen (2013)
Love comes in different forms
Notwithstanding the beauty of the animation and the great songs, the one thing I love more than anything is that princes aren't always heroes in Disney films. It's makes such a difference to not always have Prince/Princess stories so unimaginative. The central line of the story is about love between siblings rather than romantic love. That's what make this special to me. Rather than girl waiting for boy, these female characters are strong which is a better role model for girls these days. This film will ensure.
Inside No. 9 (2014)
Unmissable
This is required viewing in our household. It is absolutely brilliant. Some episodes stand out more than others but each is unique. Some are outright funny, some are heartbreaking and others are thought provoking. Love, love, love it.
Dag (2010)
One of the funniest comedy TV shows I have ever seen
I just wish it was back on Sky Arts again. Laugh out loud funny with some bittersweet moments
Chernobyl (2019)
Fantastic and scary
Excellent record of the true horror from 1986. Who knows whether we are still living with the consequences of this disaster
Deutschland 86 (2018)
Eh????
I'm really not sure what is going on in this series. The whole premise is unfamiliar. '83 had a recognisable plot line and a great sense of tension and intrigue - the fear of Martin getting caught. I don't really care enough about the characters anymore to sympathise or otherwise with the plot line.
