Dhoom 2 (2006)
4/10
What a piece of junk
24 November 2006
Story: Very much like Dhoom. A little change here and a little change there, add a new character, throw in a love angle and a bland 'i-knew-it-already' twist in the end and you have Dhoom 2. What bullshit was this? The story sucked. You have seen such stories many times before. The story dragged. The climax is a disaster. I wld have said a bit more but i don't want to put out spoilers. To sum it up in one word "boring".

Performance: Hrithik: The saving the grace, the real soul of the movie. Brilliant performance from him. Though he tried to add in "style" in some scenes instead of saying the dialogue properly but he cant be blamed. He looks fantastic while doing stunts. And surely the girls will go ga-ga over him. Heck, i prayed for a bod like that! Lol.

Abhishiek: Not much different from Dhoom. Decent. In fact, he was good in most of his scenes. No complains from him.

Uday Chopra: He managed to provide some laughs here and there but was irritating for most bit.

Aishwariya: She was 'like', terrible. Her speech delivery is, 'like', horrible. She doesn't, 'like', perform at all. And almost whenever, 'like', she opened her mouth, she was, 'like', irritating. 'Like'. But she looked gorgeous and amazingly sexy.

Bipasha Basu: Ooh la la!! What a bomb brother! The beach scene was...oh man....my eyes were wide open for a long long time. Too bad she doesn't know how to act. Oh well.

Rimi Sen: Tiny role, good performance.

Stunts: What the bloody hell? Whats this so much style for? Too much stylish action. Illogical and unbelievable stunts. There was hardly any superb-ness in the action and the stunts, only loads of rubbish style. The saving grace was the Hrithik chase scenes. Hrithik's disguises are well done though.

Music: The songs sure sound better when you actually see them. Otherwise there is nothing to sing 'crazy kiya re' about the songs. Oh and wow, Hrithik dances like a leave...dude... The first title track, with the whistle and all, is good but sadly it hardly gets used for background score. Instead, another crappy 'Dhoom' background score is played making the action sequences bland (a problem with Casino Royale too but hey, the action ROCKED in that movie).

Screenplay: The movie could have been over in one hour, but they dragged on and on and on. Songs for no freakin reason, stunts for no reason, stylish-scenes for no reason and unwanted boring scenes for no reason. Heck, the actors walked as if they were in for a fashion show. Always in style mode. The smooch scene was disappointing too. It lacked a sense of love or passion. Hrithik was trying, poor chap, to give in a nice one but Aish was a bit hesitant.

Overall: Watch it on a DVD. Sorry, let BrG release a 2CD DVD rip and watch it then. Absolute rubbish movie. In such movies, story and action are the heart and the film fails in both. Too many unwanted scenes, wafer thin boring as hell storyline, cheap performance from most of the cast, and overly stylish action scenes which don't make sense sometimes. Thank god i was sent a special screening invitation from my bank otherwise i wld have wasted 50-55 bucks on this crap movie.

Don (I) (2006)
8/10
Stylish version of the classic, not bad!
21 October 2006
Story Don ko pakadna muskil hi nahi, na munkin hai. I think Farhan Akhtar took that line too seriously and you will know why when u watch the movie. The film has ample twist to give a different cinematic experience.

To me, this version makes more sense then the original Don as it was silly in some areas. Farhan has taken the script and beaten some sense into it. But of course if the classic Don was not there, this film would not have been just muskil par na munkin

Performance: Oh man....it was like a breath of fresh air to watch SRK in a completely different role after a long time. He does well as the clever Don. He has the right body language, right style and perfect looks for a slick Don. But he fails miserably as Vijay the simpleton. He tries hard but he couldn't pull it off. Compare him to Amitabh's performance and u would put ur head down in shame. Amitabh managed to potray two different people, Don and Vijay. But SRK couldn't. He still had some shades of Don in his Vijay. Otherwise he gave a fantastic performance.

Boman Irani was mind blowing and quite easily the best performance in the movie. Priyanka was good too. In fact she should do more action oriented movies as she would look good in it. Om Puri had a small role but he managed it easily. Arjun Rampal was fantastic. Very good performance.

Special appearance from Kareena and Chunkey Pandey were decent. And for the first time, Kareena looked HOT!!

Direction: You can say its a more slick, stylish version of Don. The direction was good. I can now trust Farhan as i trust Hirani for making good enjoyable movies.

Loop holes: -This was present in the original also, when Vijay wants to prove that he is not Don why doesn't he go to Tipu, that kid?? The kid will recongnize him na! -Jasjit forgets to limp in his fight session with Vijay -Everyone knows Karate

Rating:8/10 A Must watch for the twist!

Comedy or Drama?
22 July 2006
Being a Priyadarshan movie, everybody must have expected a comedy caper. Even i thought it was a comedy movie until the end when there was no 'hungama' with all the actors running around. Priya's trademark style.

The film was okish. The story was decent. But for a Drama subject, i don't see why there were so many unwanted characters. It makes one confused at some point in the movie.

The performance were okish by everyone except Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav who were outstanding as always. Shahid Kapoor has a long way before being called a good actor. Kareena Kapoor had a surprisingly small role which she surprisingly performed well enough and she looked very cute and......reddish. Neha Dupia was good too.

Catch this on a DVD and watch it with family. Its a clean movie.

Hilarious!
21 July 2006
Four ex-college students get kicked from their college(yes they are still in there college for 10 years) and while on the run from a gangster hides in a house of a blind couple.

The story is good but its not perfect and has its loopholes. But comedies are not meant to be perfect anyway. But it provides the laugh and the fun factor a comedy promises.

Performance wise, i thought the performance of the underdog Tusshar Kapoor was the best among the four. Sharwan Johsi, Arsad Warsi and Ajay Devgan suited their role and are fantastic in this film. The four have great rapport on screen and their comic timing is fabulous. Paresh Rawal is as always good though he didn't have many comic lines. Rimi Sen didn't have much to do expect look pretty and dance on numbers.

The music is very good. Especially the title track.

Screenplay is good and moves the story forward at a good pace.

This film is highly recommended from me. Its hilarious all the way. Its just superb!

What the hell??
12 July 2006
My friend gave me the vcd of mistress of spice because i was bored.

I would rather be bored. I closed the movie in about 20mins. I was that annoyed.

This is miscast, mis-shot, mis-edit, a miss-miss and probably was a mistake.

The acting is mediocre. Ash's performance, like any of her Hindi movies, was pathetic. I am surprise she gets all this attention. Seriously, beauty can take places.

The story is strange and the way to present it is even stranger.

Not recommended to watch it. Unless you really want to drool over Ash.

Krrish (2006)
7/10
Don't go by the hype and don't compare it with Hollywood and you will be fine.
23 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Story: Krrish is a sequel to the super-hit Koi...Mil Gaya. The story continues where Rekha shifts to a very secluded village in India after she finds out that Krrishna, the son of Rohit from KMG, is super intelligent and has supernatural powers just like his father had. She fears that people will take advantage of Krrishna's powers and tries to hide him from the world. Then one day, falling from the trees comes our heroine from Singapore, Priyanka Chopra or Priya in the film. She is a new reporter from Star News and had come to the village to have some adventure. After saving her from falling down the tree, fixing her leg and singing a song, and also showing her his awesome 'powers', our superhero falls in love with Priya. But Priya has no such feelings for him whatsoever. When Priya returns to Singapore, she comes to know that she is about get fired from her job at Star because she was late for work, five days late!! OMG11!! To save her job, she and her friend tells their boss that they know of such a boy who can climb mountains and trees like there is no tomorrow and that the channel can make good money on it. So Priya calls Krrishna and lies to him to come to Singapore so that they can get married after meeting her mom. Listening to that our hero bursts into the song and runs to tell her grandmother Rekha. She objects and refrains Krrishna to go to Singapore. Krrishna gets mad and asks her grandmom why she is refraining him to go anywhere? Thats when she tells him the story of his father, of how he was called upon by a great scientist(Nasserudin Shah) to make a computer which could look into the future and of how he was deceived into making one. Well then what, the next morning Rekha suddenly agrees and allows Krrishna to go to Singapore and get his love but only on one condition, that he would hide his powers and talent from the world. That forces Krrishna to become Krrish, our masked superhero, when he has to save the people trapped inside a burning circus.

The story and screenplay shaped up well. But its nothing more than average. Its a very simple story. Though i wish they had concentrated on the love story a little less and more on the actual story. Love story are for timepass in action movies, especially in superhero movies.

Action:

After watching this movie, i was left wondering. What the HELL was there so much hype for?? Well alright, if u compare to Hollywood then we are still way behind them. But for Bollywood standards it was a very commendable job. Though the action was pretty lame and stupid most of the times, there were a few well done scenes. And i must applaud Hrithik to perform such scenes himself. Jumping from buildings to buildings...and well jumping all the fuking time, he sure was a winner there. The action, apart from being lame, was repetitive. Hrithik kept jumping and jumping and flying in a strange Superman kind of way got boring really fast. They could have put some more variety into it. The special effects were good too. It was upto the international standards.

Acting: Rekha's performance was brilliant as usual. The mother-son combo of her and Hrithik really works very well. Hrithik was brilliant. But he really sucks in lovey-dovey scenes. And doing all the stunts himself, bravo man! Priyanka was good too. Played her part very nicely. Naseerudin Shah was awesome too as the wanna-be god....and wanna-be news reporter Yup, he would suddenly turn into a news reporter, it was hilarious.

Music: Average. Nothing compared to a much better soundtrack of KMG. Only 'Koi Tumsa Nahi' was above average.

Bottomline: Don't keep great expectations from the film. And especially from the action as i did. The film is very watchable and actually very good too. But please don't go by the hype, then its a total disappointment. And also comparing it to Hollywood superhero movies is totally unfair because Hindi movies do not have that kind of a budget and its for the first time someone in Bollywood has attempted this. More like an experiment. So all in all, a very nice sequel to a already successful movie. Ladies and gentlemen, India's first Superhero!
