One Moment (2021)
Poorly acted
I guess I'm the only person here who thought that all the acting - apart from Danny Aiello, who was adequate - was wooden, hollow and unconvincing. I felt like I was watching extras doing a run-through before the real actors came to work. Characters were stereotypes (gay daughter, failure daughter, clueless son, ignorant, phone-addicted teen with no discretion), and there was no energy among the cast. Throughout I kept re-casting the film in my head, trying to imagine if the script was good enough that excellent actors could have made it work. Nope. It's predictable; no dramatic arc, contrived.
The Notebook (2004)
Predictable Harlequin Romance
A fairly boring film that will appeal to people who have no sense of history. Too many anachronisms (like Allie beginning a sentence with 'Like' which did not become a speech habit in the US until the 1970s; or Noah's hair after the war - again more '70s than late '40s or '50s). The manners and behavior are also not in keeping with the times. And Allie screaming all the time as a means of conveying 'emotions' gets grating after awhile - just want to tell her to shut up already. The characters have no depth and arouse no particular sympathy. If you're into formulaic Hallmark romances, this is the stuff for you.
Twilight Theatre (1982)
Ham Butt?
Somebody who remembers this show help me... Years ago, I watched a show that had me and my family in stitches every time it came on. For years I've been trying to remember the show where I saw a skit that was a spoof of Gone with the Wind. I was sure it had Steve Martin in it as Rhett (maybe). Scarlett is hiding a ham butt in her dress, and another character says, in a deep Southern drawl, 'Scarlett, give me that ham butt!' That's all I remember - that and laughing until my sides ached. My brothers and I used the 'ham butt' line frequently at dinner after that (Pass the salt, please. And Scarlett, give me that ham butt!). I stumbled on this title while looking at Leslie Nielson's acting credits. Could it be the source of the 'ham butt' line was this show? Now that I know the title, I've got to see if anyone's posted it on YouTube!
