The Undoing (2020)
On the edge of my seat..
This movie pulled me in with episode 1 and got more and more intriguing.. it has the same vibe as two of my favorite movies.. What Lies Beneath with Michelle Pfeiffer and Deceived with Goldie Hawn.. . Looking back on it now you can see how it was laying the groundwork for what was to come.. I enjoyed all the actors especially Nicole Kidman who plays Grace a Clinical Psychologist and Huge Grant, an Oncologist, plays her husband Jonathan.. Donald Sutherland is excellent as Kidman's wealthy father with the personality of a ferocious lion protecting his family.. it's difficult to say too much without giving away the plot..suffice it to say.. it is a about a murder and who done it.. the trial scene in the last episode was edge of your seat shocking .. so well done..
Shining Vale (2022)
CANCELLED.. SO DISAPPOINTED
I AM SO DISAPPOINTED!! STARZ cancelled my favorite show Shining Vale.. SO.. I cancelled STARZ.. two can play that game.. This show was so good and getting better and better... if you just started watching it you better hurry up and binge watch it because STARZ is removing all the episodes from their streaming service by Dec31.. i don't understand.. what's the rush.. it will be gone!! This show is a perfect blend of horror, comedy and spookiness.. if you can imagine a blend of The Shining, Rosemary's Baby,The Haunting of Hill House with some comedy thrown in..that would be Shining Vale.. the Phelps family leave the city to start over and buy a house in the small town of Shining Vale.. the creepiness starts in almost right away and the family history reveals it.. Courtney Cox and Greg Kinnear play a dysfunctional couple trying to hold their marriage together, their children daughter Gaynor (Gus Birney) and son Jake (Dylan Gage) are trying to deal with the entire experience.. an amazing addition to the cast is Mira Sorvino playing several roles..
Only Murders in the Building (2021)
IT'S A UNIQUE SHOW
When I first started to watch ONLY MURDERS I couldn't get into it..,After a few days I went back to it and glad I did..,it really got better and I was hooked. Steve Martin and Martin Short have worked together and have been friends for decades..,they play off each other effortlessly. Selena Gomez was very good and fit into the crime solving trio perfectly.. I found myself watching episodes over again because I enjoyed them so much and found them extremely entertaining..,I could have done without some of the actors they introduced as cameos.. I'll let you decide that for yourself.. the murders they solve are interesting as they unfold and you will find yourself surprised.. I'm all caught up and on Season 3.. I've enjoyed watch this show so much and it is one of my favorites.. hope there will be more seasons..,
Poker Face (2023)
I WAS ENJOYING IT UNTIL.,,,
I was enjoying Poker Face very much until they had to go and make it political.. there I was happily binge watching it when in episode 3 a constantly barking dog jumps into her car and will not get out.. As Charlie is changing the channel she comes across a Conservative radio channel and the dog stops her from changing the channel and she says "great.. a MAGA dog" and then calls him "antiSemitic, Fascist, racist dog".. I was not happy and turned it off.. I'll probably go back to it but anymore negative politics and that's the end of it! The acting was excellent and the plot, although each episode changes with a new crime kept me interested Natasha Lyons is a terrific actress and pulls off her sleuth skills very well.. she has the uncanny ability to tell when someone is lying.. so far into the show she's done it 100%. Other reviewers have compared her to Columbo and I can understand the comparison.. There are a lot of high profile actors in each episode which makes it surprisingly fun to watch.
65 (2023)
IT WAS A LETDOWN
I was waiting patiently for 65 to be released for rental ON DEMAND because I will not pay $19.99+ when a new movie arrives.. I love science fiction movies and anything with dinosaurs and mammoth creatures.. so finally, I rented it the first day it was released.. judging from the trailers I was hoping it would be an exciting adventure with prehistoric dinosaurs and lots of action .. unfortunately that did not happen.. it started slowly about the main character leaving to go into space for two years and his sad farewell to his wife and young daughter. The astronaut apparently did have passengers on board.. he crash lands on a strange planet and finds all passengers have died except for a young girl.. the rest of the movie is about their survival..YES, there are dinosaurs but not too many.. the acting by Adam Driver and Ariana Greenblatt was very good BUT I just found the movie slow with a lot of unanswered questions.. it was OK just not great.
The Whale (2022)
TOP NOTCH... AMAZINGLY REALISTIC
I've always loved Brendan Fraser and was saddened that he seemed to be gone from Hollywood.. When I heard about The Whale and Fraser plays a morbidly obese man, I thought, I knew he gained weight but not that much.. I was happy to hear he wears a fat suit for the role.. the movie starts slowly but becomes intense. I couldn't watch it all at once.. it's so realistic and crushingly sad that I needed to take a break here and there.. what makes it even sadder, the main character Charlie is a sweet natured man and emits such pathos. He's trying to reconnect with his nasty teenage daughter that he abandoned when she was 8 which you realize has contributed to her intense anger.. he also has a extraordinary caretaker friend Liz that truly cares for him.. his ex wife Mary is an important part of the movie as is a young man that enters Charlie's life and wants to help him connect with GOD.. every character is superlative .. sad but worth watching.
Will Trent (2023)
I LOVE WILL TRENT
I loved the show WILL TRENT since episode 1..,I did not read the books so I had no issues with the casting..,All the characters are terrific but my favorites are Will Trent and his fellow Officer Angie Polanski .. they have basically grown up together in a group home and have an attachment that few human beings can ever imagine.. they are both damaged people that have prevailed from a traumatic childhood and always have each others back.. by divine intervention, Will finds a cute little dog and brings her to a shelter.. he comes to the realization he cannot leave her behind and now there's Betty.. his new dog.
Derek (2012)
DEREK is a lively series
I've always loved Ricky Gervais. I find his humor poignant, hilarious and often truthful .. I found his show After Life while scrolling and loved it.. it was such an amazing series and will probably watch it again.. I just found DEREK and enjoy every minute of it.. it's an endearing series and the characters are lovable, funny and heartwarming.. the character of Derek is so well done, I have to admit, I did not realize RIcky Gervais was Derek.. it took me about 20 minutes to recognize his face and voice.
Wildling (2018)
Entertaining
It's not an exceptional movie but very entertaining. I am a fan of Liv Tyler and thought she was great as well as the rest of the cast.. worth your time.
Nightmare Alley (2021)
WOW!
This movie was amazing.. it's not an easy movie to watch. It's really intense but worth your time.. the acting is superb and Bradley Cooper is amazing.
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
WELL DONE!
I was not going to watch it at first because I'm not big on spoofs but I decided to give it a shot.. I'm glad I did.. I ended up binge watching it. I just had no idea what was coming next.. Kristin Bell did a great job and very believable .. all I'll say is that there is a murder and a murderer.. ending is a shocker.
Inventing Anna (2022)
FASHIONISTA AND SVENGALI
Julia Garner is a terrific actress and her portrayal of Anna Sorokin was terrific.. I originally thought her accent was terrible but after hearing the original Ann speak it was spot on.. there was so many terrific actors that made the show very watchable which is why, I'll admit, I did binge watch Inventing Anna.. Anna Chlumsky's journalist, Vivian, was a bit much and I certainly admired her tenacity .. BUT she was one lucky person to have such a patient and loving husband and what seems to be a fairly normal pregnancy even in the face of such constant everyday stress.. what I could not understand is why so many seemingly intelligent, successful people became so devoted, loyal and mesmerized by such a nasty, cold, lying, manipulative, malicious bit*h like Anna Sorokin.. constantly saying "they cared about her" and calling Anna their "friend".. it was like she had a hypnotic effect on people.. IMO my favorite actors in the show were Vivian's 3 journalist friends, Anna's "Trainer" and Anna Sorokins attorney Todd.
Old (2021)
BETTER THAN EXPECTED
After reading the reviews, I was going to pass on OLD but, I decided to rent it. The premise of the story sounded interesting and I like M. Night. Shyamalan's movies.. I was so glad I did because I found the movie really good and very entertaining..
Megalodon Rising (2021)
ODDLY BAD
I'm pretty easy going. I like most movies, particularly about giant creatures.. King Kong, Godzilla, Megalodon sharks, crocodiles, spiders BUT this movie was such a disappointment. It was disjointed and boring.. I had to fast forward through most of it. What I found most disappointing was Tom Sizemore.. I've always liked him but his appearance in this movie was bizarre. He was always sitting down and looked like he had a rod down his back.. he did not look well.. I also didn't quite get his exact role and why he was always in a seated position., I just found it strange .. I did not like this movie..
Searching (2018)
AMAZING MOVIE!
I sat on the edge of my couch for most of this show.. it was so well done. You could feel the pain of Margots father.. I was in tears by the end of this movie.. all the actors were very realistic and heartfelt.
Deceived (1991)
STILL LOVE THIS MOVIE
I saw this movie when it first came out almost 30 years ago in 1991 and I revisit it every couple of years .. I enjoy it each time.. it's a great suspenseful plot with well done cinematography, great background music and excellent acting.. The perfect couple, married for 6 blissful years with an adorable little girl are thrown into turmoil when a business associate of the husband, a museum curator, commits suicide., I have to admit I love John Heard in any movie (he's since passed away) plays the husband so incredibly well.. his character is adorable, charming, funny, but duplicitous to put it mildly.. IMO, Goldie Hawn plays her role as Adrienne Saunders, an Art Restorative Expert beautifully.. she is plunged into a hellish nightmare and how she goes about putting all the pieces together is amazing.. another one of my favorites is Tom Irwin, another associate of the husband.. (he's from My So Called Life and When Husbands Cheat) the movie has a lot of twists and turns and is very entertaining.
A Fall from Grace (2020)
It Was Entertaining
If you're looking for an involved, intriguing, well plotted criminal drama movie with great acting, this is not it. Some of the plot is downright ridiculous. During some of the courtroom scenes, I found myself thinking, "are you kidding me"?! With all that being said, I found it entertaining with an interesting story line and a twist ending..
Midsommar (2019)
Mesmerizing
The story unravels slowly and can be drawn out but nevertheless I was mesmerized ..it's not a horror flick but you still find yourself wanting to say to these visitors., GO HOME!! If you've ever seen The Wicker Man you might have an idea what might happen.. I will say no more but I thought it was well done..
The Purge (2018)
LOOKS LIKE THE OLD CLOCKWORK ORANGE
I know I probably sound stodgy but this seems so hypocritical at this point.. I watched it for awhile but turned it off .. Hollywood talks about gun control and violence but yet, they continue to make these violent, gun toting, horrific TV shows with so much gratuitous blood and shooting.. it's awful.. nothing like giving unhinged people more ideas for violence.. I used to believe that Clockwork Orange was one of the most violent movies I'd ever seen but The Purge has now moved to the number one spot.. maybe some people think that's great but not me..
Woody Woodpecker (2017)
Enjoy Watching It
I grew up with Woodypecker and he still makes me laugh. My grandchildren love this movie and I enjoy watching it with them..The premise of the movie is about a rich, self absorbed, divorced businessman with a snobby, pampered, annoying girlfriend who learns to reconnect and build a relationship with his really nice son. He also eventually realizes money isn't everything and learns to appreciate the beauty of nature and what he's been missing out on.
