Last Vegas (2013)
Powerful old four men!
Old four best friends since their childhood reunite again in Las Vegas to throw a bachelor party such as playing casino and taking part in a bikini show as a judge, for Billy who is going to get married with around 30-year-old. However, a relationship between Paddy and Billy is poor since 58 years before
What I felt first is how gorgeous the casts are. They have good chemistry though their character is respectively different. In addition, their hilarious and comical conversation and behaviors make us laugh the whole way through. Their relationship is amazingly heartwarming. I have an inseparable best friend since elementary school and we quarreled and shared many both memorable and unwanted memories. Honestly I believe that getting old is unfavorable and feel even scary; however, I changed my mind that if I have friends like four of them, aging is not that bad thing. I do hope to laugh at each other with my friends, talking silly and trifle things after getting older as ever.
The Social Network (2010)
Relationship or Money?
Mark Zuckerburg, a student of Harvard University, who becomes famous for an opener of Facebook later on, is claimed by affluent two brothers that Mark steals their ideas and co-founder and Mark's best friend, Eduardo, sues Mark
Before watching the film, I expect that the story will be successful how he has achieved the remarkable feat. However, in the film, his struggling points such as relationship with people and money are described. For instance, he is dumped by his girlfriend, Erica, in order to retaliate against her, he opens a bad site for the use of advantage of his programming ability. One interesting point is that the universally prestigious social network service, Facebook, which is to communicate with others all over the world, is created by a man who is not good at making a good relationship. Even if Mark Zuckerburg is one of the youngest millionaires in the world, he holds no true happiness. This shows that family bond and friendship are crucially significant rather than money.
Yet, according to my search, not everything in the story is based on the true story. Seemingly before producing the film, though the director asks him to have an interview, the director is turned down. Actually, the story is unreliable to seize as Mark Zuckerburg's autobiography, but I believe that the film wants to convey a message to us that relationship makes our life.
50 First Dates (2004)
Making each day count
Henry, who lives in a Hawaiian paradise, accomplishes a fateful encounter with beautiful woman, Lucy, at a restaurant. The next day, he tries to deepen the relationship, but Lucy can't recognize him on account of her short-term memory. After he finds out the fact, he pours his energy into her in the face of adversity.
This film is deep love story but not described in a serious way, also in a comical and humorous way.
Henry's love toward Lucy is pure and his figure of making a marriage propose to her everyday without quitting is touching and very masculine. Also, by using a video to keep her memory clear is a brilliant idea and is a measure how much Lucy is valued and loved by Henry and around her company. The way of her family to protect memory-loss Lucy, which they pretend as if the day hasn't proceed since she gets into an accident, might be viewed as too much at times, but her family literally cherishes her from bottom of their heart.
From this film, I figure out that we need to spend a day without regret, we'll never know what would become of us the next day.
Now You See Me (2013)
Unfailingly deceived by the Four Horsemen
FBI Agent, Dylan, and an Interpol Detective, Alma, track down a stirring up magicians, The Four Horsemen, who robbed a bank during a show, to unwrap grandly deceptive tricks. From a support of a professional illusion teller, Thaddeus, it seems that they figure out all the tricks, but unclear who is a key figure
This film allures theaudience completely how they do an impossible magic trick. Inparticular, the first scene of trump magic, the drawn card numberappears on the tower of entire window. Each member of The Four Horsemenhas different types of techniques, and this characteristic entertainsus more and more. Their spectacular magic makes us a second viewingpossible to enjoy.
Many foreshadowing are filled in the story and themastermind is unclear to the very end and that one is totally indescribably unexpected figure. You'll never get tired of watching it. I haven't watched the second episode yet, so I can't wait to watch it and never fail to betray our expectation.
We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011)
Hard part of being a parent
Eva, once a successful travel writer, struggles to raise her son, Kevin, because of his strange and dangerous deeds. As growing up, he gets beautiful and handsome, but at the same time, his fearful action escalates severely... The day since Kevin conducts an irreversible accident, everything has changed ...
The story of film goes back and force incessantly and little by little the mysterious parts of the film is solved. Through whole film, I could never look away from the screen. But in this film, vivid red color comes out over times to such an extent that I squeezed my eyes tightly. The red effect brings the audience to eeriness and scare.
By virtue of the film, I get to know how hard and difficult to raise child at the expense of what parents want to do. What is worse, the child is not grown up as they hope to and the child doesn't open up mind to them
Parents can't choose how the child is given birth to
In my opinion, Kevin's extreme action is unforgivable but he wanted to attract attention from Eva no matter what he uses means. He has a pure mind as the same age ordinary children.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (2008)
Can't hold back tears in the end
During WWⅡ, Bruno from a wealthy family, whose father is a German soldier, moves to the countryside in Germany where a concentration camp for Jews is back yard to his house. When exploring around his house secretly, he meets a boy dressed in a striped pajama, Shmuel. They are good on terms little by little... and they attempt to conduct an irreversible matter. One thing that I am relieved is that not everyone in Germany agrees with taking part in the WWⅡ, even the top military's relatives as well. Also, it proves that children don't care about their race and background. This needs to be taught to adult at once seriously. This film is one of the best and touching ones that I have ever seen before in regard to WWⅡ. You'll never expect the ending literally and the story goes on making us breathless all the time. I would like people in the world to watch this and this will be helpful to change a way of thinking concerning war and discrimination.
The Terminal (2004)
Novarski's figure of living through anything
Victor Novarski from the Eastern Europe, Krakizhia, arrives at JFK airport, yet he is turned down to get into the U.S.A. because his passport is invalid for his government's collapse. He makes a decision to live in the airport until the time is ripe and he meets several people working in the airport.
Novarski isn't a good English speaker at all; however, he manages to communicate with American with rudimentary English and to find a way to earn a living by himself. This film proves that language is not the most important elements when we make a reliable relationship with people from different countries. If I were in the same situation as his, I am wondering how I would take a measure to live out in the airport, which is incredibly beyond description.
This film is not included just how Novorski lives out in the airport, but also his love and comical factors, and the reason why he comes to the U.S.A all the way.
Fathers & Daughters (2015)
Father figure
Jake, a notable novelist, stays at a hospital to heal a mental breakdown due to his wife dying of a car crash by his driving. This leads him to live separately with his beloved little daughter, Katy, for 7 months. After getting older, traumatized Katy is in a trouble with loving people. Then, she meets up a man who admires Jake's novel, Cameron
This film is confusing at first because the story goes on back and force. Yet, this is like a riddle and a key to ambiguous scenes by degrees. At the same time, the film is beyond words and it is literally hard to hold back tears. In particular, Jake's struggling of both taking care of Katy and writing a novel simultaneously is described. This makes me think better of what my father has done to me in a daily life positively.
I was wondering why the title "Fathers and Daughters" is plural. If this story is just related to Jake and Katy, this should be singular title "Father and Daughter". In my opinion, this story conveys a message to us to value family bond more and more in general.
In addition, seemingly the film is about father and daughter story, but Katy's love story is included. Keep an eye on the film!
Selma (2014)
How King.Jr changed the world...
Martin Luther King Jr., who is a black minister, calls for a vote rights of black people in Selma, Alabama. As he marches with black people collectively, the white attack violently black people. Resisting the white's violence, the black led by King Jr. expands civil rights movement to the whole America including the white and the President Lyndon Johnson. Every single person in the world knows that King Jr. is the greatest and the most influential hero who approaches the world to indiscrimination. This film is depicted in detail how he stirs up the world little by little. When he speaks out in public, he is just viewed as an eloquent and brave figure; however, the film tells us that King Jr. is at times afraid of resisting his antagonists. In addition, some of the core members of demonstration decide who should be in the very front in marching by scissors-paper-stone. If I were in this situation, I would hope not to be the one in front to death. They are of course fearful for their action, but they end up with overcoming the fear. I believe that their brave must be respected and admired profoundly.
Midnight in Paris (2011)
Intoxicated with scenery of Paris
Gil, an engaged successful screenplay writer of Hollywood but struggling as a novelist, spends time in his beloved country Paris with his fiancé, Inez and her parents. Walking around at midnight by himself, he is seduced by some passengers of an old car to ride. Surprisingly, he slips back in time to the golden age of 1920'. Then Paris draws him ardently more and more
My first impression on this film is what a beautiful streetscape Paris is. The sound and the scenery match perfectly and never fail to fascinate us even though the first a couple of minutes show us just the view of Paris. No wonder why Gil is obsessed with Paris and so am I about to be. What I literally interested in is that so many famous artists and writers in 20' such as Picasso, Dali, Hemingway and Fitzgerald show up on a sudden. The relationship between them is depicted in a comical way. At first, it seems that it is just the time slip film, but it is more valuable to watch it. After watching this, you must be overwhelmed by the Paris scenery and must hold a feeling that you want to fly to Paris!
The Mass of Men (2012)
Here comes a breathtaking moment !
A middle-aged jobless man asks for help to a job center, but he is 3 minutes late for the appointment. His adviser determines to penalize him due to his laziness. Soon after, all of a sudden, a shocking matter happens
This film indicates the social problem of benefits in the UK. It is seeable that he attempts to behave as polite as possible even if he is cruelly looked down on by the adviser; otherwise, he becomes secondary or even outcast. This situation needs to be taken measures immediately, but most of the people think that it is hopeless to resolve. I believe that as a last resort the screenwriter comes up with the idea of violence.
It is said that beginning is one of the significant elements to make audience entertain greatly. At first glance, it is difficult to make out how this beginning of the surveillance camera scene relates to the end of the story. Yet, after watching the whole film until the very end, you will figure out what the camera scene shows what has become of the man of job seeker.
J'attendrai le suivant... (2002)
Fateful moment in the train...?!
A lonely woman who greatly longs for true love meets a stranger at the metro in Paris. He asks single women in the metro who has the same way of thinking of love for getting off at the next station. Then
what becomes of her love, getting off or not?
Even though the film is about 4 minutes long, this leaves us emotion sympathized with her. Interestingly, the single lady is a main character, not the man who tries to attract the single women in the train. However, she mentions none of the words, which means her feelings are expressed visually. In particular, at the beginning of the film, she bears watching a couple on the escalator. This shows us that she seeks for love. The technique is highly respected.
The ending of this film is beyond expectation and makes audience feel to follow the story more.
Head Over Heels (2012)
Upside down...
An old loveless married couple lives in a same house separately upside down. One day, by accident he finds a pair of worn out ballet shoes of his wife which remind him of their shining marriage days. Then, he makes a decision to repair them and though he tries to give them to her, he misses the opportunity. However, she finds the repaired shoes
Seemingly this old couple's relationship is an awkward tension. But in my opinion, on close inspection, they constantly care about each other somewhere in their heart because they have a wedding ring in a middle finger and have a fight over whether their marriage photo should be straightened up in which way. These things would not happen if they didn't love at each other.
At first, soon after watching this film, I slightly felt dizzy since everything is upside down. But, the end of this film is incredibly touching and the strange dizziness will be blown away completely.
Tootsie (1982)
Perfect comedy
A middle-aged struggling actor, Michael Dorsey, has no work because of his obstinacy. One day, he makes the decision to disguise himself as a woman to apply for a drama as a head nurse. After he gets the role, the viewer rate goes up and he becomes famous in accordance with his wish. However, while giving a helping hand to Julie, a single-mother actress in the drama with him, he comes to love her
This film keeps me watching the whole time due to whether Dorsey's disguise is revealed to others or not. A technique for being a woman such as feminine sign, a way of talking and makeup must be difficult for a man. Yet, Dorsey, Dustin Hoffman, completely performs the woman's part well without any doubt by others characters in the film, and even he attracts a couple of men.
In addition, when watching this with an audience, everyone laughs plenty of times. If you want to spend time filled with laughter, this comedy film is perfect for you.
Whacked (1998)
Incredibly unexpected story...
In New York, walking people falls down at random one after another mysteriously. A man, working at a driving range as a role of picking up golf balls, is stressed out on account of harassment. Seemingly, these two completely different stories have a relation in some way strangely...
This film becomes one of my non-verbal favorite films because no one can expect the end of the story until the very end. If you could imagine the end, your brain must be filled with fertile imagination. At first sight, I believe that this is a suspenseful film since the film starts with people who fall down and an ambulance siren. This first mysterious scene makes us feel to follow the story more and more. In addition, the film is related to a contemporary social issue of job. It was made in 1997, but this depicts our huge problem of present life as the title "Whacked" tells us.
Porcelain Unicorn (2010)
A Porcelain unicorn relates to...
Three German boys sneak into a ruined house, but two of them run away because of a spooky noise. One of the left behind boy finds a Jewish girl holding a unicorn made of porcelain in a storage. After getting old enough, they see each other again...
This film only has 6 lines for about 3 minutes, but it proves that it is possible for audience to know the story clearly. For instance, at first audience hardly knows the time setting; however, only this explanation "Germany 1943" describes the time of World War Ⅱ when Hitler severely persecuted Jews. In addition, at first sight, the he girl's race is unrecognizable, Yet, showing her cloth with the Star of David leads us to figure out that she is Jewish. These two nonverbal techniques are marvelously intelligent, in my opinion.
We need to keep an eye on the last scene what is going to happen next after they reunite. Certain connection between them surprises us in the end.
Three Days in Kamakura (2012)
who can expect the end...
One day, David, an English school teacher, brings Jay to home who is a half-Japanese and a half-Western since his mother doesn't show up to pick him up. Keiko. a wife of David, is perplexed by what David is doing. Then, as they spend three days together with the shining boy, the awkward relationship between David and Keiko is becoming...
In the film, not many things are described in detail; in particular, scar on Keiko's abdomen. This makes me think through what is meaning to tell us. But no matter how I think this remains ambiguous. In what way we should get to the point is up to us. This must be one of the ways of enjoying films.
Besides, Jay holds the key of the film. His showing up miraculously or accidentally changes the relationship of David and Keiko, making a one-eighty. There are some other different highlights that we should keep an eye on after Jay's turning up.
Fish Out of Water (2005)
The way of solving a problem
A man is a boat commuter to get to work since he wants to avoid overcrowded road by numerous cars. One day, a sexy stranger shows up to get a ride from him and she starts to disturb his relxing time. What is worse, passengers increase day by day. In order to get away from this situation, he makes a decision...
This film makes us think about environmental matters profoundly. Commuting by boat instead of by car sounds unrealistic in present in terms of convenience. Yet if global warming grows worse, the number of boat commuters might go up. In my opinion, the film director wants to convey a message to us that we need to care about the environmental issues more and more before it is going too far. In addition, the film is not just related to the matters of environment, but also love. we can enjoy the film from these points of views.
Father and Daughter (2000)
The best silent movie
This is the most moved silent film I have watched in my life and gives a huge impression on me as to a relationship between my family. It is necessary to think better of how much I am endowed with the happy relationship with them.
One day, father leaves daughter behind and goes off in a rowing boat. Since then, even though she gets older, every time she passes by her unforgettable place where the last time she sees him and hugs with him, she stops by for a while and looks back on that time.
What I found out is that she never walks on foot but rides on a bicycle all the time in the film. Presumably, this is because bike is the only last memory with her father that remains her mind. That is why she keeps bicycling in order to make herself connected with him. In addition, when she parks her bike, it falls down two times. Even she attempts to make it stand, yet she makes a decision to let it go. To a large degree, this scene is a key point to the last scene. You can never expect that what is going to happen in the end.
