The House Across the Street (2022)
Just awful
There really isn't much to say about this that is positive if I'm being brutally honest. I typically find Shirley Henderson to be lovely, she's an incredibly talented actress. Her performance in this was so incredibly difficult to watch, not because it was such a strong and gut wrenching performance, because it was annoying. The plot was absolutely absurd, the ending even worse. Not at all worth watch unless you need some background noise and there aren't any other options. I'm so disappointed, the cast is fantastic but the actual plot is just laughable. The last episode I actually said out loud 'You have GOT to be kidding me" as I rolled my eyes. Save yourself the time and skip this one.
Other Side of the Box (2018)
Fantastic
Very well done, genuinely creepy. I'd love to see this get a feature length but I wouldn't want it to be ruined by the Hollywood treatment like the feature length version of Lights Out .
The tone and acting are fantastic, the director gives you just enough information to make you uneasy but not enough that you truly understand the situation. Sometimes it feels lazy to not provide an explanation, that isn't the case here, the ambiguity is absolutely perfect. It's unnerving and genuinely frightening. I love the horror genre, it's really difficult to even kinda spook me, this short managed to accomplish what most full length movies can't. I was scared and I want to see more.
Devil's Island (2021)
Well done, worth a watch
I would have rated higher but the acting is pretty bad at times.m but it's not so bad I couldn't watch it. It kept me interested, I wanted to see how it ended and I enjoyed the ending for the most part. Great concept, well shot, I just wish it had been fleshed out more. You 're left with a lot of unanswered questions. I felt like the writers had a great concept but didn't know where to go with it. I don't mind a vague ending but there were several major plot points that were never really explained. I would have liked to see more of a backstory for the bad guys for starters.
Overall it's a well done movie, definitely worth watching if you like indie horror.
