Howzat! Kerry Packer's War (2012)

You know you can sit there and be super critical of these types of bi optic niche historical mini series. But that would be unfair to Howzat . It is simply better than that . The acting over all is great . Lockie Hulme who plays Kerry Packer is outstanding . He captured KP's ability to be enraged and bully people but he also captured the other generous side of KP and his genuine love of cricket The actors who portray the cricketers , especially the main Aussie cricketers all do a great job with what they as actors have to work with . Historically the show is accurate able to quickly get the political issues surrounding World Series Cricket v the establishment across an informative and entertaining manner . In the end it covers a time in Australian history that changed cricket world wide for ever . Thanks Mr Parker.

Lioness (2023– )

Taylor does it again

The man can do no wrong - ripper show , gritty , hard edge . If rest of the eps are as good as first two then giddy up I have a new fav. This show is a class act as you would expect from Taylor - he has written this and he just keeps getting better , Clearly they have spent a lot of money on this , there are lots of toys and big bang action , the production values are excellent , Character development is swift and concise and you get invested in the characters very quickly , Most are likeable despite their flaws . I can't wait for the rest of the eps to drop the story line already has me hooked.

The Cape (2023)

A very slick and well produced doco about a murder mystery in waters off far north gulf country in Australia. The characters and families in this yarn you could not make up . They are extraordinary, multi layered and complex people who live in a world foreign to most . However what I am hopeful of is that someone based on this documentary turns this into a feature film or mini series . There is so much depth in the characters , the story is tragic and the location magnificent . The murders remain officially unsolved but you are left in no doubt in this doco who the offenders are even though they were acquitted in court - please somebody make this movie !

Last King of the Cross (2023– )

Real grunt

The first two episodes have dropped . This a very good violent and somewhat graphic recreation of Sydney's Kings Cross of the 70' and 80's

An epic gangster show based on true story . The Cross comes up a treat re dressed for the era and its retro colours really pop . They have clearly spent money on this show the special effects are high levers Tim Roth adds real international cred . To the gangster world of Kings Cross at that time -

The lead playing main character John Ibrahim the King of the Cross is excellent, he has real talent . Early days yet in his story but the first two eps have build a character arch that makes him both menacing yet likeable . Certainly far more likeable than most of the other characters, which bodes well

looking forward to next espisodes .

The Offer (2022)

It was an offer I could not refuse

As a fan of the Godfather movies , yes all 3 of them , I was looking forward to this series. I was not disappointed, it is clearly not a documentary and the actors who play Pancino , Brando , FFC and Puzi are very credible. Miles Teller who plays Ruddy does so with a clear determination. The vibe of the show is classy , it's well shot and I eagerly await the remaining eps .

This is what film making should be about - cracking story - super script- great character development - expert direction - beautifully shot with clever tricks and professional experienced actors. This will become a classic gangster movie

Rambo: Last Blood (2019)

This is a Rambo movie

Do not expect anything else but a Rambo movie , they are not documentaries, there are good people and bar people and the good people win . Simple as that . So for bone crunching , blood splatting pure revenge this is awesome -. John Rambo is not Rocky Balboa - he is far more disturbed He has issues , demons if you will , but he knows right from wrong , good from bad. I hope we see Rambo again doing what he does best - dispatching bad guys
