Goliath (2016)
Heroic
Great cast. Great dialogue. Intriguing story. I like these characters. I like the story. I love that the hero is flawed.
I care about the characters and what's going to happen next. For the time I'm watching I suspend disbelief and am engaged.
High recommend this series.
Guns, Girls and Gambling (2012)
No plot
There is no story here. There is nothing interesting about this film. Why do the men keep their shirts on during sex. In one scene the actor pushes the prostitute away and you can see the sex is fake. Suspension of disbelief means nothing those making this film. How are these films financed? Who would waste their money on this idea?
Drive Angry (2011)
It fails to commit
It's a B movie with guns, violence, sex, nudity, fast cars and the occult until it decides to slide into a very bad version of a Halloween Hallmark special.
When it should be getting nastier and giving the audience the thrills these kind of movies are designed for it flakes out. Cage should know better. Amber Heard is more the capable of playing the femme fatale but we fail to see any of it. Demonic possession and the occult have been reduced to trivialities here; cliches. When it stops being fun it stops being fun very fast. I was pleasantly surprised at minutes in and then quickly annoyed at how this movie ended. The casting could have been better as well. Are there no hungry actors willing to giving it there all in hopes of getting their big break? Movies in the genre should titillate. Why go anywhere else with it?
The Babysitter (2017)
I loved it!
It was great! I loved it! The only thing that stopped me from giving it a ten is that there is no nudity.
Horror and nudity go hand in hand.
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
It was made cheaply
I'm disappointed in Reeves for making this film. He doesn't need the money. Why not put and effort into making a film about guitar culture. Adding daughters into the mix when they add nothing to the film seems like a good way to make your friends some money? Rufus had a daughter? She's so unattractive. Her role is terribly written. Rufus had a wife? She looks like Diana Rigg from Games of Thrones. I do not understand why this film was allowed to go into production.
William Sadler's performance deserves a mention. It was the only bright spot in an horribly dull adventure to no where.
Diablo (2015)
Weak Western
Scot looks the part. I'd say he's perfect but this is one of the worst Westerns I've ever scene. I always thought he would be perfectly cast as Roland Deschain from Stephen kings dark tower books. There's no passion here I cannot recommend this movie.
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)
Great stunts, no story
The first part of the movie does not disappoint. It is so good I will buy this movie to enjoy it again and again. The second half suffers from the lack of intense engaging dialogue and weak casting that fails to suspend disbelief. Halle Berry doesn't fit here. She's not sexy enough or tough enough for this part. To compensate for weak writing they cast an established star but it doesn't work. I don't believe her character. The final fight scene is acceptable but not on par with the brilliance of the opening dance! Again the opening fight scenes set the bar for all future action movies! WOW!
Cobra Kai (2018)
More episodes, more CGI
The episode count is not enough. For a premium service 10 episodes is so lame. While the series started strong the ending was melodramatic. I did like the artistry involved in filming the Karate scene as the actors don't necessary need to know Karate you need a crew that can shoot the scenes to make it look like they do.
I like the exploration of opposites and how what was good is now not so good and what was bad or misguided is look for more balance. I like the reminiscing about first loves. I like the young people. I like how touch on obesity and video game culture but I want more then just touching on these subjects I want stories that inspire us to see more to do more and how Karate can do that for us.
Also with CGI you could bring back Mr Miagi as a ghost and have him instruct Daniel San. Or we could at the very least hear his voice. So much could be done with this series but it looks like it's going to sell the original movie out.
Only time will tell but will hope for more. Enjoyable, but it let me down with the the lack of episodes and content in the finale.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
The Force is dead!
Terribly written. It's sentimental, nostalgic, juvenile, uninspired, unoriginal, poorly thought out. There isn't one line is this movie you wish you could hear again because you want to remember it. The story treats fans like they are idiots. You're either born with super powers or your not. There's no self doubt, not attempt to even hide the fact that the actors and director have no respect for the material or the Mythos. The plot holes are huge! There's no star power here and when you do see a star nothing fits into place. Why bring back Luke? They turned him into a coward. Why use Laura Dern? She has many strengths as and actor but none of them are used here. It seems like she's cast in projects because someone likes her. Spoke? What a poorly thought out name and character. I can say that about all the characters in this movie. The humour is stupid not funny. It panders for the laugh. This is the last Star Wars movie I will ever see. After three terrible movies it's obvious Disney has no interest in the power of storytelling. They are making movies that appeal to some computer model of what will net them the most money. I'm only guessing here but what else could it be?
Twin Peaks: The Return (2017)
It was OK
Living with it for a while I think it's not as bad as I first felt it to be. Is it great? No. Is it as good as the original? No. It's very well crafted and it would have made a wonderful comic book but then we wouldn't have had the pleasure of watch Kyle MacLachlan act. When he's in bed with Diane in the final episode his face is so much like Bob's I thought it was him. He played both characters so well that I suspended disbelief and thought he was both. I feel no goodness was present in the return. They dumb themes in the original down or refuse to talk about them and there inevitable tragic outcomes for whatever reasons they had. Lynch was annoying as the deaf FBI agent. It was cool to get a look at him in the original but even then I was glad when he left. The message is what? It's all random chaos and there is no heaven? It was genuinely creepy at times I'll give it that but it's not enough. As a storyteller your job is to support the hero so he can fulfill his quest. He falls asleep Diane is not there, he's in a different hotel with a different car and he questions none of it? Where is the white lodge?
Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
I want to like it, it's Spider-Man
I wanted to like this but I couldn't. When I see a movie I want a plot with twists and turns, that keeps me guessing as to what might happen. I want some beautiful dialogue. Words that inspire that are beautiful that make me want to laugh or cry. I know all the stuff they put into this movie already and a retelling isn't bad but you have to tell it well. Really? Ironman gives Spidey his suit? No he does not and never did. No. If you want to adapt a Spider-Man story for the big screen then you should attempt J. Micheal Strazynski's work with this character. If you don't like that then make it fun. At the very least make 80% of the movie about Spidey flying thru the air and shooting stuff with his webbing. Crawling up and over and under stuff. Show me what the technology can do. Give me a spiders perspective. I can't recommend this movie. I can't recommend any of them. Spider-Man has to live with the fact he made a wrong choice and someone died because of it. When he got his powers he used them to make a quick buck, easy money. In this day and age that's more pertinent then ever. Like all heroes he's tortured by what he did, what he should have done and how he can never change that feeling regret inside but if he helps one person today it feels better for a little while. So he helps. Is that so hard to understand?
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Worst Star Trek to date
The casting is wrong. The camera work is terrible. The writing does not exist because the dialogue is horrible. The Klingons should feel like pirates who love life, battle and debauchery-in other words anything their senses tell them feels good-instead they make them into some hybrid Egyptian Hierarchy. If it's pre-Kirk why is the technology better? It looks better. The music is also nonexistent. How can you make Star Trek and have no music? There are two people who should have been at the top of the list to run this show J. Micheal Strazynski and/or John Byrne. I can't believe they have the nerve to ask me to pay for the second episode. Gene would not have approved and I certainly do not. Vulcan are logical not dullards. Study the original series. That's the feeling you want to achieve. I cannot say how much I loathe this reboot. This is not Star Trek.
Alien: Covenant (2017)
A rework of a classic story for the next generation
This movie pays homage to the movies and mythos of the past and ignores all the existential questions brought forth in Prometheus. He/Ridley or the studio/money have laid the foundations for a space horror series. The Engineers were reduced in this movie to a point of irrelevance. Elizabeth's sacrifice her power, wit, and determination-even her faith-were kicked aside as old ideas not worth exploring or honoring. The characters in this movie are dumb. Their judgment is even worse. As I was watching it I couldn't help but think of the countless numbers of people and concerts who need to watch what's happening right in front of them on thru their device screen. They can't enjoy the moment. Not wanting to loose it or thinking they can capture it they miss the point entirely. I am very disappointed in this film. Ridley Scott sold out for the money or he really wasn't that brilliant to begin with. What is the most frustrating is that he didn't even try. David and Dr. Frankestien? Really?
The Mentalist (2008)
It keeps your interest
The characters, the Red John arc, the character development it all keeps you interested but I found the stories were tied into nice little packages and resolved in nicest was possible. The good-guy always wins. It's nice. This show is nice. There are some really memorable moments: When Jane meets his daughter, Cho falls in love, Van Pelt hallucinates her boyfriend, the Bret Stiles cult, Jane's Nemesis Erica Flynn, the creepiness of the Rosiland Harker story line then never quiet resolved itself properly, and the Kristina Frye character were among my most memorable. As I was watching this show wind down particularly with the Erica Flynn episode I felt this show could make the leap to theatres with movies to continue the stories every few years or so. Just turn it up. More action, more interesting locations, more interesting dialogue, with interesting international locations with the same amazing cast. Lisbon would be one hell of an action hero with. Jane's already a bit of the international spy. It's done I doubt we'll see it again but it was nice. If you want some fun, thoughtful, engaging with a bit of drama that never leaves you feeling sick this is a great choice.
Iron Fist (2017)
It felt amateur
There wasn't a moment when I suspended disbelief and believed in what I was watching. This show isn't a feast for the eyes. The cast is unremarkable and the story is non-existent. It's not that it's bad it's that it's boring. I don't like the lead;I don't hate the villains. I don't sympathize with any of the characters. The violence associated with the fist and the violence in mega corporations could have been compared and contrasted more. Philosophical questions about violence when and in what circumstances is it OK to use the fist? I expected more but as I said I was bored.
The Young Pope (2016)
The Hero's Journey
The Hero leaves the comforts and certainties of home, takes chances, makes mistakes, trusts and doubts in his abilities and judgments, makes enemies and friends looses what he loves and gains love and respect in the end returning full circle to some realization. And the pain we carry with us where ever we go;let's not forget that? This show is beautiful. I love the characters. A great ensemble cast. If it doesn't show us exactly how things are it shows us how they should be and that's important. Great storytelling!
The Escort (2015)
Don't judge a book by it's cover
The picture/poster they choose to use for this movie is as provocative as it gets. It's beautiful! The film itself was lukewarm in all regards. I think Lyndsey would be perfectly cast as Kitty Pryde in an X-Men film. Loved her in Kick-Ass. I don't like any of these characters. I don't relate to any of them either. Who is this film for? Seems to me it's an attempt at film making by children with ultra rich parents.
John Wick (2014)
It's good and feels somewhat fresh
I liked this film because it follows the formula of revenge but it's not terribly boring. It feels somewhat fresh. There are good believable performances and it manages to hold your interest at a medium level for the entire film. Some of it feels original as well. I like that. The gun work is amazing! The fight scenes are good and the create a world that feels believable. I was able to suspend disbelief for a little while and enjoy this world. To many film today operate with the premise that the audience knows it's all fake. A good film draws you in and makes you believe in the theme of the story, the plight of the characters and their emotions. I'd say this film has some success in doing this.
Love (2016)
It's Great!
I have watched Season One multiple times and it's great each time. I love the characters, all of them! I love the dialogue! I love the music! I love the situations these characters have to deal with! I love the subtlety the nuance! This show has it all! I can confidently say it is one of the greatest shows of all time with one of the greatest ensemble casts ever assembled for TV! If they stop now it remains great but don't you want to know more? I do! I love this show and all the characters! I cannot wait to see where they all end up.
