Hunger (2023)
Idea is good, but the messages are stuffed in too cringy
The first half of the film is exciting with all the cooking stuffs. However, the film try too hard in stuffing in social message to a point where it almost feel unwatchable because of how cringy it is. Delivering a good messsage via a piece of art is good, but you don't use art as a method to forcingly teaching people about life by telling the actors to say the lines. Besides that, the motivations and the reactions of most actors are poorly written to adapt to that social mission, which makes everything not only cringy but also unreasonable. The worst thing that makes the plots hars to accept is a very poor way to depict and portraits lives among different social classes: the rich ones are always playful, shallow, selfish, and ruthless; the poor ones would be the only ones in life who have a heart and so on.
The contradiction in cinematography used for different cooking style, although intentional, doesnt deliver its hidden message sensitvely enough. And talking about cinematography, the crew brought too much poorly set up scenario into the final film, the set design is reconizably fake, and the food-photography scenes are not really on point.
If it is not for the extremely talented acting from the main character, most of the scene would be terribly hard to watch. Still, the cooking knowledges and skills are very well studied. The portrait of chefs are also well made: creative, diligent, patient, extremely hard working.
In overall, because the film want to be pursuied as a piece of art rather than another non-sense entertaining product, I would say it didn't do the job quite well in most of the art-related content involved around it. But it is not too bad of a film, and can surely keep your attention within its duration.

The worst among this genre I would say
If you're not used to this Survival Game genre, you might find it exciting. As a long fan of this genre, I can make sure that this series is undoubtedly one of the worst among all. The problems lie severely in 2 key points that make a good Survival Game Film: The games and The story-telling. While the games, without exaggeration, are horribly boring, forcing, and lack the creativity to the point I don't even know if they actually spend time thinking about the game or they just pick it up randomly on the internet. The storytelling method badly worsens it with so many unnecessary scenes and lines. Towards the end of the series, I have to watch it with 1.5x speed, and still, it is irritatingly slow. That is not the worst yet. The SUPER CRINGE appearance of the VIPs just to show labor class discrimination is unacceptable and horrifically unnatural. They try to put on life-lesson so bad that the lesson turns out to be pathetically ridiculous.
Tl,dr: this movie is cringed, poorly told, wayy overrated, and definitely one of the worst in this genre.
Yakuza to kazoku: The Family (2020)
A touching story wonderfully directed and visualized
The storyline of the film is really touching. The pacing is super slow but with wonderful directing, every changes in the main character was brought out and that makes create so much sympathy in the audience.
Another good point is that the film successfully cover all part of a yakuza's life, his work, his past, his descendents and most importantly his craving for a normal, simple life with the ones he loves.
All these stories are brought to life through a can-not-be-better production of photography. The camera angles are creative and full of purpose, the scenes are beautiful and the movements/pacing are just right where it should be.
The cast, especially Hayato Isomura, brought up one amazing and very emotional performance. This is a very hard role to play and he nailed it perfectly, with all the changes simply showed through his eyes and smile.
Some might say that the ending is too tragic but I believe it makes the best sense since what they want to deliver is that a yakuza life at this point is stuck and Lil Ken did the only thing he could do which is to give the lights of hope to the next generation so that Tsubasa won't fall into his inescapable life. And that complete beautifully his journey of transformation throughout the film. Not the way to end the film that we all look for but the most honest and complete way to do it!
In overall, I highly recommend you watching this movie. I came to it on a lazy night looking for a non-sense yakuza action films and end up dropping tears from a wonderful art film.
Simply beautìul!

For things that people should understand
The film really took me on and off for a ride of emotions, especially for someone who had a time living with people who strived their way out of situations as bad as the characters in the movie was. I found the movie to be incredibly realist, and that angle was delivered by totally beautiful scenes.
It is true that there are plots where the films get a bit confusing, which was explained to be due to necessary cuts in order to be approved by the government, which also was the reason that leads to the poor characteristic development in the characters.
But in general, how the film is delivered really got me and it definitely deserves all it receives by now!

The trip from the outside to our inside
The movie is one of those remarkable romantic movies that hit you with millions of questions just to come up with your own definition of love and all the liaisons around it. All the scenes were built purposefully and splendidly, enough to marks your mind with a wonderful Europe and all beautiful moments lovers can have with each other. And that creates a priceless lasting feeling of peacefulness and love that you can hardly find in any movie.
A film to put your soul and mind in!
