Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022)
Loose Ends
It is Downton Abbey, of course its going to be spectacular! While the film is a sequel and dwells on a new era is coming, it is however more about loose threads than anything. At the heart of the story is of course the Dowager countess of grantham once again superbly played by Dame Maggie Smith. In true Downton fashion plot A follows part of the gang to France while plot B has film going on at the big house. While the french connection throws us a seemingly Aha moment, Downton always surprises. The film subplot also surprises as the very handsome Hugh Dancy makes a play for lady mary. Complete with the return of Denker, the film has lots of humourous moments including a nice little bit of business between Lady Bagshaw and Mr Carson almost kicked me out of the cinema as the real life couple finally got to share some screen time together. Light moments aside, the film doesnt shy away from serious moments. Supported by John Lunn's beautiful new score, the piece called 'Cortege' makes for a very moving scene. The film tidies up some loose ends from the season 6, the story kicks off some new storylines. There always is that cautionary tale factor that Downton Abbey does so well for we know what is coming next...
Dynasty (2017)
Guilty pleasure with some plot holes
Follows the original to a certain degree but is still a guilty pleasure to watch. However, the recasts around Alexis and Crystal were hard to get over. The only thing thats a "dangling participle" is getting the ignored Stephen back into the story.
Land Girls (2009)
Entertaining but could have had some more (spoilers!)
The series was not bad to watch. The characters were entertaining and you couldnt help but feel bad for the lady of the manor. Each season needed an extra chapter or two each and the final frames of the 3rd series left me with more questions, making Dr Channing more mysterious than ever.
