Can't remember a worse film

OMG - the accents were terrible, the acting was poor, the plot was weak, the script was corny, the scenery was lovely. Perhaps if had been a silent movie it might have been ok. I can't remember a much worse film than this one.

I believe that Lindsay Lohan has signed a three film deal with Netflix - god help us though surely can't get worse than this

Ted Lasso: Sunflowers (2023) Season 3, Episode 6

Thoughtful and clever episode

The team play a friendly match in Amsterdam and Ted lets them have a night off in the city. The scenery was nice and a few plot swerves to avoid falling into a corny traps of Amsterdam stereotypes. It was a good move away from a match by match series which could get repetitive and helps sets up the rest of the series with Ted discovering a possible match strategy for success in the rest of the season, and the team bonding to potentially make that happen. It touches on the dilemma of coming out for gay footballers and whilst there weren't that many belly laughs it was an enjoyable development of the characters we have come to love.

Nolly: Episode #1.3 (2023) Season 1, Episode 3

Good showpiece for Helena Bonham Carter

This is the story of Noele Gordon's demise as the star of Crossroads TV soap. It shows her time on the Crossroads set and her behaviour almost as if she was the director, then the real director getting his revenge by getting her sacked and then the aftermath of that event, and then her unfortunate early death.

I thought that Helena Bonham Carter put in a fantastic performance as Nolly though to my mind she looks too young and to some extent too attractive to play Noele Gordon in her 60s.

The story was a bit pedestrian and my partner gave up watching it half way through the 3 episodes. I thought it was a good watch but won't be recommending it to anyone else.

The Cave (III) (2019)

A poor film of a fantastic drama

Unfortunately this film feels like it was put together from all the outtakes of the other films made about this amazing rescue effort. I though that the Ron Howard film Thirteen Lives managed to capture the real drama in the rescue and is far the best of the bunch of films that have been made. The Netflix drama series Thai Cave Resue was overlong and didn't really add much to the storey though did focus more on the boys themselves. The documentary The Rescue was Ok but not a drama. I understand that this film has been re-edited for another release with a revised title - Cave Rescue. That might improve it but not certain it can rescue it!!

Not as good as 13 Lives

I watched all these Netflix episodes to see what 13 Lives must have missed given it's much shorter running time. In the end I concluded - nothing really.

I felt 13 Lives got to the heart of the drama and its twists and turns very well. It built a better connection with the cave divers and their difficulties and dilemmas. It also showed how difficult technically the revue was. Whilst this version gives a lot more of the background to the boys themselves and their families I don't think it added to the enjoyment of watching what is a fascinating story. My advice is don't bother with these 6 episodes just watch 13 Lives.

The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe: The Real Story (2022 TV Movie)

Didn't really add anything to the drama programme

If you watched the 4 part ITV drama, which I enjoyed, this programme didn't really add anything to the material I had already seen. It's interesting to see the real husband and wife , and they were well portrayed in the drama, but that's it.

The Beatles: Get Back (2021)

Fascinating but toooooo long

Really interesting watching songs we now know very well develop and change. Amazing how many new songs they produced in such a short timescale but the programme gets too repetitive and is just toooooo long.

Against the Ice (2022)

Amazing story

Worth watching to see the limits of human endurance in another era before GPS, mobile phones, modern equipment. It must have been the 1910 equivalent of a trip into outer space . Absorbing film that captured the extreme length of the expedition and what must have been huge monotony without actually being boring.

Attenborough and the Mammoth Graveyard (2021 TV Special)

Wonderful interesting programme

Excellent programme that made what could be a dry subject come to life with human interest and reconstructions. Attenborough is always an enthusiastic and charismatic presenter, and the co-presenter also did a great job.

The Man Who Bought Cricket (2022)

Fascinating programme

Interesting programme about Allen Stamford tried to use cricket sponsorship to raise his profile whilst meanwhile the law enforcement agencies were closing in on his corrupt business empire.

Never believe your own PR - It was never going to end well for him.

Just the pits

This is getting worse by the episode. The plot is going nowhere. Can't believe Alex would just turn up, then drink loads of wine before driving to the airport. Such a disappointment after series 1. I keep hoping that the series is going to turn round but it doesn't seem it's going to. What a waste of talent.

Such a disappointment

From season 1 when I couldn't wait to watch the next episode we have gone to a situation where I am wondering if I should bother to watch another episode. My partner has now given notice she's not going to bother and I might do the same though I don't like to quit on a series. There are really no plot lines that make me want to know what happens next. This is probably the worst contrast between two series that I can recall.
