American Woman (2018)
cliche ridden yawner
Soulless clap trap with stiff uncomfortable language, predictable cliches for dialogue and no pace.
Where is the woman's voice?
Won't last the full season.
The Men Who Built America: Frontiersmen (2018)
closer to fiction than fact
More propaganda than fact, rife with inaccuracies and omissions of fact.
Seems designed to glorify white America, and to whitewash the genocide and racism that drove many political actions.
For example, omitting the true nature of the conflict in Texas, which was the fact Santa Ana had struck down Slavery, and the ties between characters like Bowie and Crockett to the Slave industry, while deeming the fight to be about "Freedom", renders the recounting here closer to fiction than fact.
These sorts of omissions and misnomers are rife throughout every episode I've viewed.
Jamestown (2017)
Yawn
Not sure how this passed the pre screenings. Poorly done, over acted, real nasty depiction of early settlers, but at least their clothes are clean and they always self clean, even after wolf attacks. Wait a minute, wolf attacks! When did that ever happen? Not sure any of the writers ever did more than open an encyclopedia and look up Jamestown. Not sure how they think they can get a large 17th century cargo vessel deep in the mouth of a river and moored at a 20 foot dock either. So I suspect no one on the writing staff has ever been near a large ship or out on the water. Really cannot believe people are being paid real money to produce erroneous cliché ridden nonsense like this, but I guess they are. Snore.
Riverdale (2017)
You're Fired!
I wish I could be positive. I wish there was one redeeming thing about this. I wish I could tell you there was something worth seeing here. But nothing is going to save this lead balloon. Rerunning it on another day isn't going to do it either. Totally shallow and ugly take on Archie and the crew, bad acting, poor character development, nothing redeeming whatsoever. The hacks that came up with this idea, along with whoever approved it for production should all be in an unemployment line, with orders not to return to television. Worst I've seen in a long time. I predict it will have almost zero viewers after introduction, and will be pulled within weeks.
American Pastoral (2016)
Brutal biased rewrite of history
This movie is a propaganda piece, biased in favor of a pro right, pro war, pro police, pro establishment perspective. Sixties rebels are portrayed as a scurrilous lot, or as naive children tricked into joining them. The reality is the people of the time had good reason to rebel, and their rebellion led to much needed change. But to listen to the premise of this movie, one would think there was no good reason for rebellion. It also makes all the rebels out to be murderers, especially for the SDS. According to the movie they are murderous, killing postal officials, but in reality they only ever killed three people, and all of them were their own people in a bomb making accident. Groups like the SDS, the Weather Underground and others, went out of their way to insure there was no loss of life. They attacked structure, not people. The movie itself, technically was well done and the acting decent, but the whole feature goes down as pure propaganda designed to change how we remember history. I was there, and this movie, its script, and its premise is completely intellectually and emotionally dishonest.
