The Power (2015)
Cool dark ritual film
Fans of Rosemary's Baby and Hereditary cannot miss this powerful horror movie. Abducted and imprisoned by a cult, Magda awakens in a filthy cell. Despite hearing distant voices, her screams for help go unanswered. In time, she befriends another hostage, a girl who provides some comfort, while the cult prepare their demonic dark ritual. A compelling dark and great film made by Paul Hills with such a great cast. Valentine Pelka is marvellous as the main villain in it. So cold and calculating that he's entertaining the whole way through. Very dark ending as well which leaves the audience wanting more.
I'm Still Here (2013)
Brilliant film
I'm Still Here is an interesting, thought-provoking film. It contains great acting from the main characters especially. I'm Still Here has an original story-line and it is very moving. I would recommend this film to anyone! I like how down-to-Earth and realistic the characters and the plot are and I like the way it has been filmed. I also liked how the subject matter challenges its viewers. You get very emotionally involved in the story and captured by the suffering of the characters. I'm Still Here has important themes that capture the audience. If you're looking for an interesting movie, go and watch this film!!
Camp Murder (2021)
A Polonia classic
One Polonia movie always leads to another! This is Mark's tribute to the Friday the 13th with a little Halloween thrown in. I know he already made some of the Camp Blood movies, but that wasn't his own series so I get the appeal in making his own movie.
Lots of Polonia regulars and a hefty dose of gore make this a pretty damn fun and breezy 73 minutes. The mask the killer wears is actually really awesome and Jeff Kirkendall wields a weapon in the appropriately menacing sort of way.
But the most important thing is that Jamie Morgan plays a character named Roxy Rumble and she's a professional wrestler and at one point her and her boyfriend decide to play a game of how long can she sit on his face so she may be the greatest character in the Polonia Universe.
Cyberlante (2020)
CyberReview
With mainstream films such as Tangerine and Unsane using the same technique out of Hollywood, this Midlands film has utilised the flexibility, speed and high quality of modern smartphones to capture their drama about hacking and obsession.
Cyberlante begins with our lead Matt (played by Gavin Gordon) who is down on his luck and takes a boring job at a local hotel to earn his living. With support from his friend Ozzy (played by Domenic Tiberius Russo) he undertakes the menial work under the eye of obnoxious boss Clayton (Mark Peachey).
Discussing his previous work, we uncover Matt has utilised his internet expertise in less than honourable ways by hacking and scamming in the past. Has he moved beyond this? Well, the film shows how this skill can be put to use in another way, which helps uncover even worse deeds.
The first half an hour sets up the above, but in a weird way the film reverses the old adage 'show don't tell' so much that I was itching for more "tell". Especially the lack of dialogue to create drama and conflict in each scene. Instead there's lots of contemplative walking. A faster pace could have really helped as there wasn't a great deal of content here at the beginning. Most of the story by that point could have been set up in a third of the time.
However, my wish for a bit more narrative oomph does come in the second half though. Mark Peachey's excellent role as the work bully develops into darker territory, as themes of cyber-stalking and tailing his ex-partners begin to bubble up in the story.
