The Giver (2014)
3/10
Inspired by the likes of Logan's Run and Brave New World but a dreadful ending.
1 July 2023
This was a decent film until the last 5 minutes, which were stupid and ridiculous and tainted the whole movie to be a waste of time.

Good acting and it was the now classic tale of an emotionless future and sterile limited world that's recovered from some sort of separation from humanity or risen from the ashes from some apocalypse.

Much better to watch Logan's Run over again or read / watch Brave New World than waste you energy seeing this.

A shame as the acting was decent and a good cast.

Not sure what the producers were thinking, did they run out of budget and had to quickly finish the movie ? Or did the author suddenly have to wrap the last chapter to get it delivered by a deadline ? I hope there was reason for such a poor ending than it was ever intentional.

Best Film Ever !!
17 October 2022
The plot is outstanding and the acting is so sublime I was moved to tears a number of times. The CGI and special effects are second to none and I found the shark infested tornados so realistic and terrifying I haven't left my house since seeing this movie.

The women in this film are stunningly beautiful with mesmerising theatrics and so refreshing to see no signs of plastic surgery.

The international feel was great and it felt like I was really visiting those countries and locations. Unlike so many Hollywood movies there was a complete appreciation of the different country's cultures and each was definitely not seen through those cliché tinted spectacles.

Awesome and to be revered as a modern classic.

I cannot understand the bad reviews.

Watch it and enjoy !!

Even The Actors Look Embarrassed
8 April 2022
Such a shame this show has got to this level of stupid. Every time Star Trek decides to time travel back to the amazing times of the which ever decade it was produced, it has always been a cop out, cringeworthy and the worst episodes or movies of whichever captain is at the helm. This time a whole series dedicated to amazing LA in our present times.

The writers think we are idiots and a shame that the only good thing to come of this for the actors will be their pay checks.

Too contemporary for some - Fantastic for others

Warning: Spoilers
Ignore the humbugs. Enjoyed this very much. A great watch, fun and witty with elegant scenes and story.

This could easily have been made an episode or two more, and with an increased budget, become a new classic. Not easy to make a period drama so good for the modern audience. From the same stable as Bridgerton, it works a treat and will abhor the traditionalists and the many fuddy-duddiies who've marked it down.

SPOILER : The big tear jerker at the end would have been far more effective and memorable if we had seen the hospital birth and child handover. The scenes in Spain could have done with an extra budget too, for example what Linda's brother was up to.

Great series, but will it continue ?
30 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My partner was in floods of tears at the end.

I was dumbstruck. A great drama and good to have a conclusion. I have really enjoyed each series. At the beginning of this episode. I jokingly stated the coppers would get away with it, that Cassie would die and Sonny would have to step up and take over in the same way Lewis took over from Morse. I did not expect to be so accurate. Many questions answered and a few jail sentences but the mystery remains. I may have missed the answer to this... Why exactly did Fogerty dismember then keep the body parts in freezers for 30 years ?

Battlestar Galactica: Razor (2007 TV Movie)

This should be listed as first two episodes of Series 4
4 February 2021
I'm re-watching the entire series on BBC Iplayer and really enjoying the series. Razor part one and two are listed as the first two episodes of season 4 by the BBC and it is exactly right. They sit perfectly in the series and I do not understand why these two episodes are not listed within the main BattleStar Galactica pages on here. For me it was a fantastic start to series 4, which I didn't see first time round, and then series 4 got even better when I saw episode 3, 'He That Believeth In Me'. A great two part story as part of series 4, and we get to see how the Pegasus stories that horrified us when only talked about during dialogue in the the proper series.

Brilliant Novel Will Last 100 years, This will be forgotten by Christmas
18 August 2020
The novel has stood the test of time with it's amazing depiction of a future where all are happy and have purpose within a cast system. No families, no parenting, and the conditioning, cloning and genetic manipulation of people and children. One of the book's great thought provocations is that despite The Brave New World going against all our 'Savage' instincts, it's the Brave new World that wins and cannot be argued against as a better way forward for society and people for their welfare and happiness. This adaptation ignores the whole point of the book including that dilemma and turns it into a badly scripted Logan's Run, but not as good. This series is a typical Hollywood caper where the great free capitalist ways win through revolution against an evil dystopia. it's better to be free to feel sadness and love than ignorantly happy and without worry. The characters have changed from the book into more stereotypical film and TV drama characters. Their flaws and the frustration that the reader felt towards them which made them interesting has gone out the window. I read the book this summer and greatly anticipated this drama. It's not all bad as a piece of TV, and as a Sci-Fi drama OK, but this would have been better to leave the novel and it's characters alone and make it only loosely based on BNW. This is not a reflection of the book at all, so as a consequence will not stand the test of time.
