Blue Beetle (2023)
Bring Xolo Maridueña into the new DC!
Had a great time with this movie! Actually cried a few times during some ID the more emotional parts. I really liked Xolo Maridueña's performance and I feel bad that this was his first major DC outing at a time where the studio is transitioning. The costume looks great and the action sequences were fun. Lots of cheesy lines here but not enough to spoil it. It's a shame people review bombed this movie because for the most part, it's a lot of fun. But the truth is, a vocal minority will always been upset by seeing a non-white cast of characters less a film. I for one would love to see more of this cast, these characters, and where Blue Beetle does from here.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
High Production Value, Solid Pacing, Great Acting
Having just come off of watching The Hobbit, this is a great palate cleanser. LOTR was so good and this captures it's spirit. Small, forbidding Easter eggs. Looming danger ahead. Great casting. Beautiful set pieces (yes, even with CGI). I can honestly say, it looks like they took care with this show. Mind you, I didn't read the books but this isn't as closely related to them as it is the movies. The show, so far, is keeping an even pace towards the threat that lies ahead. This doesn't have filler episodes or pointless side plots. All points lead towards Sauron and his threat to Middle-Earth. The actors equally carry their weight and their characters seem well fleshed out and unique. I think this is a show that respects it's viewers and their time. Don't listen to the haters. Enjoy it, it's good television.
The American Barbecue Showdown (2020)
The same clothes... every episode...
I'm so confused. Did they film it all in one day? Did they wash the clothes and wear the same outfits again? Did they have multiples of the exact same outfits the producers asked them to wear? Did they just stink the whole time they were filming? WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!
Fun show though.
Grand Army (2020)
Fantastic series! This kids were amazing!
The young actors do so well to carry their weight and the script gives them room to grow and breathe. This is a grounded drama, very realistic depiction of high school life. The show doesn't shy away from real issues and is gripping beginning to end. Highly recommend it!
Vampires vs. the Bronx (2020)
Attack the Block in the Bronx
Similar plot to "Attack the Block" but still well done. The kids hold their own and the movie really tries ro capture the feel of the Bronx and the culture. Decent pace and some fun cameos.
Kong: King of the Apes (2016)
Representation is Horrible.
What this show does in regards to representation of people of color is atrocious and I can't believe this actually passed through a series of producers before release. Not to mention it basically rips of Jurassic Park. Trash.
