The most technically impressive sitcoms Britian has
5 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is a snappy, character driven show that is really well complimented by the wild motions of the camera, uses of cutting to help punctuate jokes and other Technics uniques to visual media to help deliver the jokes in REALLY subtle ways like with tires being able to teleport between shots and Tim and daisy actually have to move their eyes to see him again in a later shot, that's only a small example but it basically outlines why I love it so!

This film is legitimately the best film I've ever seen.
5 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not joking here but when I watched this film for the first time, I was absolutely in love with everything about it, the jokes, VJ Emmie, the surprisingly good kung foo sections, the charm and dedication. This film is an absolute labour of love by the people who made it and even though their country was experiencing so much issues to do with rioting, they powered through and made a film that is a celebration of the art it's self.

And yes, the budget, it's low, really low, but that adds to the charm I believe as the movie is very on the nose with the script, like Richard shouting "I'll be back in the sequel!" The budget however gives some of my favourite laughs in the film whether it's the opening shots with the CG copters or the incredibly funny fight scene at the beginning with fake explosions make the film an absolute wonder to witness!

Doctor Who: The Doctor Dances (2005)
Season 1, Episode 10
8/10
Another fitting conclusion?
21 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has so much running and so many near misses it's laughable, it's actually laughable! I understand the need to have all these things play out as there needs to be both realism and threat in the story but they could have just wrote better structured scenes to accommodate for this which big Steve could certainly have done.

I digress, the subtext was strong in this episode as rose, a fair maiden of Britian was being fought over by a G.I and a Brit, which holds heavy symbolism to the ww2 era as their was suddenly a rush of American soldiers who were using their optimistic charms to get the girl but in this scenerio the heart and determination prove that charm is just cheep talk and that when the Brits show that their gritt is out of love, they soon go back to the Brits. I mean there's a reason the episodes called the doctor dances.

I'll try to wrap up quickly, the episode is mainly about character development and use of metaphors with the plot being used to effect each of the characters in a positive or negative way respectively, the best one is when the doctor realised that the little boy is nancys son and that to help these people she needs to show him that love helps technology heal those who are in need.

Grrrreeat but not a masterpiece.

Warning: Spoilers
How did they do so much night filming? It's really impressive from my perspective, that must have been so hard. The production value is through the roof in this episode it's really commendable.

Furthermore, the story was really interesting but mainly in how information trickled in as the episode carried on.

However, my god, where did that rope come from and how did rose not see it! Was she blind? Is she an idiot? It's soooooo contrived. But of course it has a use to get her into the arms in the wonderful captain jack whos fly boy attitude is shown as rather selfish as when as soon as he charms rose, he intends to exploit it to try to get paid for the space ship. This I also thought was representative of the capitalist attitude that serves destiny that Americans are so keen on, this subtext also leaks into the following episode (I'm watching both episodes before viewing each of them.)

As a side note, Albion hospital call back is a really nice detail which makes these romps through time and space have perspective and a sense of cohesiveness which again is a very good strength that this era has.

I also never thought I'd be scared of outdated CG but ha! Was I wrong!

Jesus. The feels.

Warning: Spoilers
I love this episode. It's not Amazing by any stretch of the imagination but it really sets up a great platform for rose to come to terms with her father lose, it was so interesting to see what Mr Tyler was like and how death can create an idealised form of someone in an effort to keep the memory alive of a loved one. Another great example of using sci fi concepts to help speak of the human condition. Further adding to this, the time wound concept really adds weight to the rest of the series as it caused an apocalyptic event when one person was saved, really emphasising the importance of keeping time as it is. Brilliant!

Barely passes, barley

Warning: Spoilers
What is there to say about this episode? Barely anything, it's just average. Simon pegg was funny with the stuff he's given. I thought the end moment was humourous. The flesh monster was just weird. The episode was really low budget and it just feels like either a filler or a set up. You may as well skip this one.

Doctor Who: Dalek (2005)

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
21 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
So, what to say about this episode? It was absolutely wonderful. this is the best the show has to offer (mostly) in terms on naritive depth.

Instead of going through everything, id just like to handle to doctor and the dalek. So, to start, their first scene, the doctor running in fear of the dalek but when he understood it couldn't hurt him, he started torturing him sadistically because of the time war, very shocking as the doctor isn't shown as being a cruel person. Utilitarian yes but not cruel.

Later on, the speech the doctor gives after the slaughter was great "why don't you rid the universe of your filth? Why don't you just die?" And the dalek replied. "You would make a good dalek" it shows us that the doctor and the daleks are equally as vengeful towards each other and it really questions our view on the doctors morals and past. Later on!

The final scene with the dalek, was great the dalek being imprinted by rose and wanting to see sunlight was a beautiful moment which is made better when the dalek wishes to die as be views himself as an abomination to itself. Damn it's super sad.

However, that dude, the one who goes onto the tardis later on. he is so uncharacteristic and useless, he takes a great episode and makes it worse.

Also as a slight aside the museum at the opening could have had a cool reference to a future alien later in the series, it would have been really cool but doesn't make the Episode worse.

A fitting conclusion
21 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
So, this episode has some really good moments and some really odd moments for instance Harriot Jones' speech about being the only elected representative was very cool as she was just an extra body in the last episode.

Also, later on when all the slythin appear and we see it from the perspective of the press really helps add a bodysnatchers type feel as these aliens have invaded the highest seats in power and intent to do evil.

In addition to this, the science is actually solid behind the exploding slythin, not a major point but hey.

Furthermore, the slytnin plan is absolutely amazing it is magnificent in my opinion as it makes for once perfect scene and doesn't relie on high sci fi concepts and instead just uses them as a conduit to tell a story that reflects human nature which is very very poignant and reflects the classic series of who much better.

Not much really to say here other than its a great episode but my god launching a missile is so easy according to this episode. But then again remember the Hawaii incident from last year? Yep.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode. Is the first GREAT episode of new who. I can't say enough good about it. But hey, I'm gonna try regardless.

So, rose has returned home with the doctor and we see probably the most mixed scene ever. On one hand the acting was great and the set up leading up to the reveal that rose has been gone for a year was really good, the music and the cinematography changing as the scene goes on is absolutely wonderful!

In addition to this, rose not being able to tell Jackie what's going on is very typical and is handelled in the most regular way possible.

Next scene, the roof scene has my favourite use of comedy so far in the show. As rose thinks about how she's the only one who knows about aliens when a massive alien ship crashes into the big Ben and causes an international incident.

Later on, I like the coacotic scenes inside ten downing Street as politicians are struggling to get their act together when the world needs them most. Speaking of which. WHEN WE LEAVING THE EU TERESA! oh wait. Anyway, it is really funny satire on how bad British governments can be when we don't have an actual leader in charge and are faced with a unique situation that the idiots cant talk their way around, wonderful!

Next, searching for the doctor and getting picked up by unit i find to be very cool and interesting world building that when I think about it doesn't turn up much in the later seasons, which does however speak to the biggest strength of Russell t Davis' era.

Now I shall talk about Harriot Jones, MP for tadfield north. She was ok, she didn't really shine and by all rights should be dead as she was holding her lanyard when the electric thing went off. But eh.

Geez, now for my favourite scene the pig shooting! Really what's great about this scene is how it uses lighting to convey emotions of fear and isolation of both the doctor and the pig. Something else great is how the doctor is very calm and nice when talking to the pig. in addition to this, when the pig gets shot and the doctor proclaimed "it was scared!" Really helps push the themes of fear causing panic and drastic actions in all people.

Those were some great things but the episode is really funny Parady for the most part but the fart jokes are just. my god. No.

Doctor Who: The Unquiet Dead (2005)

What the Dickens?
21 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
So, the episode opens with a surprise zombie attack and it builds some sense of mystery when the Welshmen seems to be in on it, which i think is interesting.

So, skipping forward, we end up in the theatre and Dickens is going through his setup for his arch in the episode as he's seems to have some quilt with his position as a famous author which I think is quiet humanising as people normally lord these celebrities as paragons as moral vertu when they're as human as you and me, which later as he has a brush with death with ghosts he's inspired to live his life to the fullest and spend more time with his family.

Also in this episode Gwen is the best, she is a good representation of the limited roles of women during the industrial Revolution and her seeming very sympathetic to the geth was interesting as she knows what it's like to be in a desperate situation.

However. My god. The geth were so. Obviously evil, it ain't doctor who without a threat! Unless we want a "it's not an evil plan" moment from season 10. They could have just had Gwen die and the rest of the characters have learned about self sacrifice and what not the same way and the geth could have set up the rift in moralial instead of being cliché but hey at least mr Dickens solved the problem with SCIENCE!

It's average. Not much to see here but hey, torch wood set up. And set up for the next 2 seasons too. Woo.

This episode is pretty good, Cassandra is really really wierd, the makeup was absolutely wonderful, mostly, the mystery was in the end obvious and somewhat bs. But really the best part of the episode was rose and the doctors relationship being explored and the doctors line of work is dangerous so it's good that it got mentioned atleast

Here we go!
21 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I am writing this on the 14 of June 2019, I've gone on this pilgrimage to watch all of new who to try to see why I like the show as the last few seasons have left me disillusioned with the show, so, here's season 1 episode 1 - rose

Well well well, you know how to get me going, that's opening montage was what I consider to be a masterclass in how to communicate characters in a visual manner, both rose and Mickey are set up here, rose as a regular girl who's bored with her life and has a good relationship with her bf who is shown as being rather clingey and kind. This continues to the wierdest monsters in doctor who the plastic things, who I think are quiet interesting as it demonstrates a literal fear that the uncanny valley portrays also. "Hello rose, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!" What a great scene to introduce us to our wierd but wonderful doctor, literally blowing up his problems, wonderful! Anyway, back at the Tyler residence, Mickey being really clingey, and Jackie is really funny "when you gonna find another job." And her going on about compensation really adds to Jackie's character as she isn't in a great financial situation and is just great. In addition to this, the hand being chucked in the bin leading into a great tran sition (love you Anthony) where the camera goes into the bin. Sure there's a metaphor there.

Geez this play by play is going on very long. So, let's go quicker, the doctors obliviousness is really funny and Jackie's despirtation is also good foreshadowing. The doctor who fan boy setting the doctor up as a man surrounded by death is a very chilling scene which is undercut by the plastic Mickey.

NEXT! Rose is upset about Mickey being potentially dead and the doctors speech is greeeeeaaat very straight to the point and really teaches us what the doctor is about as a character.

The climax! Soooo, it was alright I guess.

7/10, good episode, great opening scene, great transitions but very few exceptional moments.

I was an idiot, this ain't great
23 December 2016
I loved this film once when it first came out but I then realized it's full of plot contrivances, bland characters, none intimidating villian's, general awfulness that's I can't deal with no more and I'm surprised I didn't realize that it's problems on the script level sent the film into obscurity.
