Prison Break: The Final Break (2009)
The shark has been jumped
Sadly my view of these 2 episodes is closer to the previous one than to the glowing reviews some have given.
I've watched every episode of PB, but recently it's been as much out of habit as anything.
When it started I thought it was nonsense but extremely enjoyable. Yes, it was unlikely, to put it mildly, but it was one of those things that made you suspend your disbelief.
More recently there have been too many gaping holes and too much repetition. Not to mention the way Alex turned from a vicious killer to a near saint, and the other killer became a Congressman and a do-gooder.
I think they should have just ended the whole thing a bit sooner – before it wore out its welcome.
Starter for 10 (2006)
Funny and moving
Saw this when it came out and have just seen it again on TV. I enjoyed it a lot. (Haven't read the book, so cannot say how they compare.)
It has an excellent cast, with some v talented people in small parts, such as James Corden from Gavin and Stacey.
Yes, a lot of talented actors are under-utilised, such as Dance and Duncan, but it's a film, not a miniseries what can you do?
With all this talent, the stand-out for me is still the wonderful Rebecca Hall, whose character is a lovely mixture of political certainty and personal vulnerability.
(It seems daft to me to say that, because she's Scottish in the book, she should be in the film too. To what end?)
I haven't seen her in anything else yet she's apparently the star of a new Woody Allen but she's clearly a great talent. (And gorgeous.)
