Mount Hideaway Mysteries: Exes and Oh No's (2018)
Pass on this one
A rating of 4 is generous. Less than stellar acting but a good or great story, it would be worth watching. Great acting with a not great story, may also be worth watching. This movie was bad. I felt like I was watching an entire movie with actors all performing in their first roles and the story was disjointed, with scenes that made no sense, and the plot was only modestly contiguous. Whether the book was written poorly or it was the screenplay adaptation, I don't know, but don't waste your time on this stinker of a film. I figured out early on who was behind it all, and even the satisfaction of knowing I was right can't erase the poor quality of this production. And to add insult to mental injury, there is no real ending... which is just plain annoying.
The Hyperions (2022)
Incredible family fun
This is a quirky story with an intro and different bits and pieces that are reminiscent of Wonderful World of Disney. It's not "just" a superhero story which is what it sounds like. It's about family, father-daughter relationships, who we are, and how we look at people when they do things that we "judge" without understanding their motivation.
This was an absolutely wonderful movie and well worth watching.
The South Westerlies (2020)
Not perfect but solid entertainment
I watched all of Season 1 in one evening and thoroughly enjoyed this series. Other reviews complained of actor portrayals, story line and film location. I thought the location was beautiful though I have no idea where it was filmed. The accents may not have been spot on or misplaced but I've definitely heard worse and I didn't feel that they detracted from the story. My only comment on casting was that I thought the actor playing Connor was a bit too old to play someone just heading off to college and his character had more maturity than an American 18 year old male would have. Overall, I was very pleased and am looking forward to season 2.
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
Better than I could have dreamed
Sequels, especially a number three after a much loved duo of movies, could have been mediocre or even pretty bad. This absolutely surpassed the best expectations I ever could have imagined for this long awaited film, it was absolutely fantastic!
This movie made me laugh. Not just laugh in a reminiscent, I remember that, it was cute laugh, but a this is funny in it's own right, laugh. The actor who played "B" (Billie) was Brigette Lundy-Paine and as Ted's daughter, she was a female version of Ted and spot on in her performance. The story line was a bit crazy (I mean... it's a Bill & Ted movie) but made sense in the B&T Universe as we know it. There were so many great characters (such as the one played by Jeremiah Craft, a brilliant performance) that made up for the absence of some fan favorites. Keep an eye out for nods to Station and the Good Robot Us-es.
Timeless Love (2019)
Interesting story that was very well done
I have to admit that dear hubby and I enjoy our schmaltzy movies. If it's bad (and there have been a few), I rate it with a number and move on. After reading some of the poor reviews of this movie, I just had to throw our two cents in.
This was a very good movie. I liked the premise, the acting was well done. Some have commented that the parents behavior was harsh but I didn't think so... just that they were normal parents trying to help their daughter regroup and move on after nearly losing her. I also have a huge problem with the complaints about the "anorexic" appearance of the female. Did those folks even really watch the movie? She was in a coma for two months, did you expect her to be fat? Sheesh. And no, I didn't think she was too skinny, this movie is definitely more a light drama/romance and NOT a "psychological thriller" or anything like The Twilight Zone.
