Enter the Anime (2019)
This Should Have Went a Different Direction...
Let me start with the positive highlights of the documentary first:
-Narrator spoke in a conversational tone, some expletives were uttered but whatever
-Introduced major producers and creators of the most popular anime out there now, particularly those on Netflix
-I like the honesty and inquisitiveness of the narrator as she constantly admits she does not know what anime actually is
-The scenery of the film was beautiful overall as she traveled in Japan
I wish the documentary would have been longer and explored actual fans of anime. The film touched a little on cosplayers and some kid anime that is popular right now, but I think as a viewer and lover of anime I would have liked to have seen more anime fans interviewed and explore how anime has changed their life or because of anime what interests and passions they now have. Don't get me wrong, I think it is cool to know who are creating these amazing films but the documentary was 90% of just that.
The narrator, Tania Nolan said one thing right: "It is not about what is anime...it's about being a part of a community."
Overall I wish it had gone in another direction. If you want to dive deeper into anime, read Ian Condry's "The Soul of Anime", it is excellent.
Avouterie (2015)
You can feel the anguish in this film...
The film begins with Sammy returning home early from work to surprise his wife with gifts on their anniversary. He finds her home early and she is "getting busy" with another man. He quietly closes the door, goes and grabs his guns then comes back up stairs...
The question that comes up is: Who has the right to judge? Does Sammy have the right to judge? Just because someone betrays us, are we supposed to take the law into our own hands? Or does this go deeper than that. Is it Justice Sammy wants?
I appreciate the excellent acting given by the characters. Their response to the situation: the anguish, the hurt, the sadness and pain could be felt in this film. I gave this film a high rating because of topic matter and acting skills.
This film contains all kinds of graphic language, violence, and nudity. Just a warning.
