NCIS: Last Dance (2022)

Huge disappointment
19 April 2022
The concept and storyline of this had me excited for a good show; but, the writing and acting really let me down. A Torres centric story about Nick's past promised much, but delivered little. The writers didn't seem to know how to deliver a script with much punch, but the real letdown was Wilmer Valderrama's complete lack of interest and subsequent lack of emotion. I have tremendous respect for Valderrama's abilities, and think he's a great actor, but he just didn't show it here. Perhaps he has/had issues in real life that he's focused on, or perhaps it's a matter of everyone seeing the writing on the wall for this once great show. Either way, the monotone delivery of supposed highly emotional scenes simply did not deliver anything close to good theatre. Hard pass on this one.

What?
15 April 2022
I'm not sure what this was supposed to be, but it wasn't Star Trek. Actors who have played "Star Trek: Picard" characters oozed through scenes written for some fantasy or horror show were involved. And maybe in some twisted "Disney Dark" show this could be something. But this was far from any Star Trek show as you could get. It had absolutely nothing to do with season 2 of Picard - so I'm not sure why it was here. I only gave it a 6 because Stewart is such an amazing talent. Sad times we live in where this passes as a Star Trek episode.

continued freefall
16 March 2022
I love NCIS, or at least I used to. IMO the show has continued to decline since about season 8 or so. This episode? Poor, lazy, and contrived writing. The whole "kidnapping" sub-plot was just so poorly done. The actors did they best they could with it all, but it wasn't enough to save a poor script.

so tired of it all
5 March 2022
Spader is a legendary actor. Tawfiq has become amazing at his craft. But I am so tired of the political influences that throw fire on a divide that needs to be mended, not widened further. There is good and bad in all of life, and people should not capitalize misfortunes for either personal or political gain.

Much better than it could have been ...
28 December 2021
I wasn't sure what to expect, and if you're expecting Kenny and his voice from the 80s you may be a little disappointed. The other artists truly tried to stay true to Kenny's vision of the songs - and it resulted in a very commendable tribute.

It's hard watching your idols, and heroes, grow older - and Kenny's voice wasn't what it used to be. Still, at the end of the show Kenny and Dolly belted out some sound that makes you glad you know the songs.

This was all done in the present (2021) ... so it's hard to imagine this being any better than it was. If you are or were a Kenny Rogers fan, I think you'll enjoy this .. although, along with a smile, you may notice your eyes leaking at bit by the end.

Classic NCIS

Really close to a 9/10. Great story, and absolutely AMAZING work from the young actor Joseph Castanon as the little boy. Very nice early character development of the Ziva character in her first season with the team. Suspense, intrigue, and a little action. Add this to your list of NCIS shows to watch.

3 Episodes to really appreciate
27 October 2021
I find it difficult to review this as a stand-alone episode. This is at least a 3 episode arc that include "Twilight" and Kill Ari (part I). With all of these included, I think this is arguably the best that NCIS has to offer. The writing, direction, production, and acting are all top-notch. The suspense and twists are superb.

The "Ari" arc actually began in season 1, and he's not forgotten as the show continues on for many years. There were many great arcs over the first 10 seasons, but this one set the bar.

Were it not for items like "Casablanca", "The Grapes of Wrath", etc., I'd have given this a 10. These 3 episodes are a must watch for any NCIS fan.

Geekdom thrives
27 October 2021
A good season 2 episode with plenty of great "chemistry" moments with the team. Solidifies McGeek (McGee) qualities, and enough twists for the fans. A great episode to establish just how tough Gibbs is, along with some fun Abby, and Kate vs. DiNozzo moments. Well worth the watch.

meh - they've done so much better.
27 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Only a "so-so" episode, and without Ziva it doesn't rank very high on the NCIS must see list. The whole "he went off his meds, so he could be planning anything" concept is weak. The 2nd/sub plot of McGee's missing creds could have been done so much better as well. The whole Twitter finding an in-flight plane in real time was rediculous. The Twitter thing could have been used more realistically in an on-going search concept over a couple days and had a more believable outcome.

The one bright spot was Roma Maffia as Special Agent Vera Strickland. It's a shame they didn't sign her up to a multi-year contract; she had good chemistry with the team, especially Weatherly's DiNozzo character.

Vera would have been a much better choice than Bishop who never developed much popularity with the audience. All in all, only a 6.5 out of 10 from me on the NCIS episodes.

OK - not bad.
17 October 2021
Decent storyline, and pretty well done. Jolie didn't seem terribly interested or invested in the part, but did her job without looking too bored. I thought Finn Little did a fantastic job as the young boy, and should be considered the breakout role. The "bad guys" were really well done too, and the movie sticks with what could happen in real life for the most part. (There were a few things about "the fire" that were maybe a stretch.) Could be an 8 maybe, but I went with 7 .. 7.5 would likely be the real score I'd give the film if it were available. All in all, not a waste of time, but it's doubtful you'll remember much a year from now.

Sorry - good idea done poorly - there's better things to watch
6 October 2021
The concept is good, but it's done poorly. The special effects are mostly poor (animals etc.). The actors may be ok, but the dialog they're given isn't good enough to interest the viewers. I did watch half of the second episode just be be sure, but I can find so much more on TV that provides much better entertainment. I'll be surprised if this lasts long.

Better than you'd think
10 September 2021
It may not be an amazing script, but the couple great actors of Martin and Hudson make it well worth the watch. It's a decent western, even if there's no great "action" to speak of. You won't find any memes from it, and it's not even really blog-worthy beyond the hour and a half of relaxing tv watching. Both Martin and Hudson play their parts in an understated way, which makes it more believable.

There's enough chemestry between Rock and Dean that they're comfortable to watch. There is some subtle humor here and there, and the story doesn't offend. Personally I enjoyed it, if you like westerns and buddies on opposite sides you may like it too.

Much better than expected
8 July 2021
The big subscription channels are putting out better and better content, and Amazon Prime hit this one long. Maybe not out of the park, but certainly extra bases. The acting is much better than I expected. Pratt shows he's more than just Star Lord, and. Yvonne Strahovski is much better than I'd hoped, showing real emotion that was easy to buy into. There were some huge plot holes, especially toward the end, but all in all it was an enjoyable sci-fi flick that didn't avoid some character development and did offer some good CGI special effects. If you liked the Aliens flicks, then you'll likely be able to sit through this without much disappointment.

Nice try
17 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Sigh - it's truly sad. With all the attempts to malign the right - the conclusion shows that "fake news" does exist, and it stands up in court.

I enjoyed the first season, even with a bit of humorous digging at the right wing politics. It was subtle things in a few places, but it was used lightly as drama relief so it played out ok.

After a couple episodes into the second season, it ramped up the attacks on conservatives. (mid-term elections and all).

I doubt I'll be watching the 3rd season.

Oops
17 April 2021
Many folks will be, or were, upset at the obvious MSM fake news lies, and Hollywood swears to it BS. The problem is though - an over zealous attempt shows just how desperate the left wing is, and the extremes they'll go to. It's all rather sad really - I loved the first season of this show. Too bad they sank so far so fast.

Friends and family
9 March 2021
I've enjoyed this show since the first episode. It's not a 'bust your gut' laugh fest, but rather good acting, good writing, and storylines that share some enjoyable humor. Billy Gardell and Folake Olowofoyeku carry the lead in the show, but have a fantastic supporting cast. It's nice to see that 2021 may be a break out year for Travis Wolfe Jr., who is fantastic as the son of a single mother.

Single episodes are nice, and tackle everyday issues; but, it's the long story being told here that is amazing. I tune in every week because I feel like I'm visiting good friends.

If you're looking for stupid humor or outrageous laughs - this may not be for you. If you're looking for a great way to spend your time with good folks that just make you feel good - spend some time here. I seldom give more than a 7.5 - but this rates a good 9.5.

Really sorry this doesn't work
5 March 2021
I really like Mayim Bialik, and in fact I do like most of the characters in this. The basic "friends" concept is good enough as well. What fails here is the writing. Add the horrible canned laughter, and the almost constant 4th wall breaking, and it all adds up to a mess that should have been ok. I don't mind an occasional speaking to the camera, and even the cheesy music and dance at the end would be ok - but the constant mugging for the audience is just too much. This would need to completely remove the current writing staff and hire experienced GOOD writers to ever make a go of it. I think Mayim is adorable, and she has such a wonderful personality - so it does pain me to pan this. 4 stars is being very generous - they'll have to find another vehicle for Ms. Bialik.

It just keeps getting better ...
5 March 2021
Glad to see comedy cop duo getting a bit more air time. This show just keeps getting better and better. Linda Hamilton was an absolute plus - hope to see more of her (won't give away plot points though :-))

By episode 2 or 3 I thought this had a real chance at being a hit - by episode 6 I REALLY HOPE it's a hit. Always leaves me wanting more, and wishing the episode lasted longer. I think they've hit gold with this series, and hopefully we'll have many seasons of this. Alan Tudyk absolutely NAILS IT in his role as the "Resident Alien", but that's only part of the charm. The rest of the cast keeps getting better, and the show is doing well at building the character development.

Not sure I've ever given any show or movie a 10 - but this one is getting close. I'll say 9.5 and looking forward to the next episode.

One of a kind
2 March 2021
SUSA is geared to a fairly specific group of viewer. Fast cars and trucks. Guns, knives, and other assorted weapons. While this is the selling point, there's actually much more here. Stone Cold has a weekly guest: sports stars, actors, comedians, and various other celebrity type folks. They spend the day with Steve in an enjoyable atmosphere; with typically an intro, some sort of macho contest (shooting guns etc.) then some sit down with good food and good drink, good humor and some enjoyable conversation. Steve is good at interviewing folks, and good at getting good interviews out of them. It's not going to be for everyone - but the "macho guy" (or gal) types will likely enjoy this. Personally? I think you'll enjoy this .... "Cause Stone Cold says so"!

There's a chance
2 March 2021
There's a chance this show can make a go of it, but they really should have started with a better explanation. Instead of details of what's going on, we get treated to strange things 'a happenin', with little context. The score and music are alright, even good, but there needs to be better editing so it doesn't distract from the story. Riann Steele gives a very credible performance, but Thomas Cadrot is going to need to step up his game to get in sync. Special effects are well done, but there's simply not enough backstory at the beginning to allow the viewers to really follow along. All we really know is that lack of gravity is involved.

If the next episode or two ties things together and gives us a foundation then we could have a sleeper program that could rise to the top. If instead we get the same kind of "weird things of the week" style of programing I doubt it will last very long. The pilot did little to provide any conclusion or explanation of why we should have enjoyed the previous hour - so I think the next week or two is going to be sink or swim for the show. I'll give it a 6 for now, and it could go either way quickly.

Better, but still not the original
1 March 2021
Megan Boone didn't appear in this, but that doesn't mean it's suddenly a 10/10. Decent score no doubt, but too loud at the wrong times. The story is better than they've been in the last couple years; but, it's still not the quality that the first 4-5 years produced. James Spader is surely better than 90% of the actors out there - but he doesn't seem very enthusiastic about the show anymore. The throwback to an early "Blacklister" seems like a weak attempt to recapture former glory. The thinking of this supposedly top group of FBI agents is simply beyond the pale of bad choices on top of bad performance. Poor stake-out protocols and poor execution. Bad players get bugged too easily, and the whole "lay low" cliché just reeked of writers who have simply run out of quality ideas.

People like Glen (RIP), and Mr. Kaplan really made the early years pop. Now sub-standard actors perform with cardboard emotion. When the characters don't show emotion, why should we? This week was a decent storyline, and could have been even better had it been dealt to us as a smooth operation (on either side). Instead we're treated to shows of "who can screw up the least". Cooper and Ressler are giving less and less.

When Red had leverage and the where-with-all to manipulate this crack FBI unit, and when criminals were actually interesting - we had a reason to suspend belief for an hour and just enjoy the show. Now, Keen is on the run from the FBI (who don't really seem all that interested in catching her). Red on the run from Liz just doesn't get anyone interested. Almost no one is interested in seeing or hearing from Boone. Wrong person for the wrong part.

There's still a few Spader moments sprinkled here and there, but they are far and few between. Spader's lackluster performance comes across as just plain bored. Arison (as Aram) continues to improve, and IMO has entered the "break-out" quality of actor we all enjoy. Tawfiq (as Dembe) continues to impress (when he has the chance). Still, in the end, I can only give this a 7/10 (7.5 at best).

Sad
27 February 2021
It's so sad how far this show has dropped. A one time "don't miss" show is now just filler for network programming. The whole "Keen trying to see her daughter" thing just falls flat in this episode, and little emotion is ever shown here. I've tried to like Boone, and maybe I would in another role, but this role was really meant for someone else. The more screen time Liz Keen gets seems to be a direct correlation to the dropping ratings. If Spader doesn't want to do the show anymore, then he should just say so and stop phoning in his bits and pieces. This episode has formerly top notch, high ranking, government intelligence people acting like they've lost all common sense; and would be lucky to be hired as crossing guards. I really loved seasons 1-4/5 .. but even with suspension - there's no belief to be had in this show anymore.

8.5 - good show
20 February 2021
I really liked this show. Given that it caters to the 60+ crowd, I guess I shouldn't be surprised it was cancelled, but I was disappointed when it vanished from my tv. Great cast, good storylines, and fantastic humor. I guess the humor was a bit too high-brow for the current generation though.

It's a "Not" show
20 February 2021
It's not really a sci-fi show, not really a drama, not really a mystery, and not even really a comedy - But it all WORKS. It's one of those shows that keeps you coming back for more. Tudyk, Reynolds and Wetterlund are GREAT from the start, and many of the others are quickly improving. The humor in this often catches you by surprise, and so far the storyline really grabs your attention. Tudyk plays his part to perfection, and the uniqueness of this whole show is well worth a watch.

Wish they had a longer run.
19 June 2020
First: I was really sad to see so many bad reviews. It's no M*A* S*H, Cheers, or Big Bang, but they were working hard to improve. I admit there were some poor casting choices, weak directing, poor production and canned laughter did all bring the series down . Now that said, I thought the actors and actresses all did a good job of working into their parts and making them more believable. I say kudos to Perrette for such hard work to leave the "Abby" role behind and establish something that wasn't simply an "Abby at home" character. I think the writers were just starting to get into a groove, and especially with the ex-husband added to the show, it was really turning a corner at the end. I hope all involved are able to find bigger and better things, and I especially hope that Perrette is able to use this as a springboard to reach higher goals.
