Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father (2022)
A good ending. You just don't like that it ended
It had to end somehow. Tell me how you would do it better? In fact, go make your own show if you think you can do it better. Otherwise, you have to admit that you wanted to believe that Dexter was invincible, and incapable of his actions catching up to him. They did, and this is how it ended.
Just like the Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Seinfeld, ad nauseam. Everyone wants to critique a show ending, yet offers up nothing as far as an idea. Probably like me, it's why you're sitting on your couch playing wanna be critic rather than making anything interesting that any of us would want to watch. A phenomenal show in which most of the content was great. Not easy to put a wrap on anything like that. And most likely we'd all be uninterested in your best effort's to do so.
Ted Lasso: The Signal (2021)
It's only fair....
...if I was so critical last week that I give props this week. I also get that a show has to evolve, and to do so there are going to be ups and downs. Even The Office in full Steve Carell mode had clunkers from time to time.
This week, Ted and crew offered much more emotional depth, without making it forced or over the top. And how about the new wonder kid! My prediction is at some point he goes off and coaches his own team......
Ted Lasso: Rainbow (2021)
Tragically bad
I came on here expecting to see marks in the 3's and 4's. And I like a romcom as much as anyone. But the emotions are so forced and contrived. The brilliance of season one was taking genuine tension and finding blessings in adversity. Now it's seems like the show feels some obligation to be a weekly pick me up. A noble pursuit indeed, but I can get this same level of schlock on the Hallmark channel.
Ted Lasso: Goodbye Earl (2021)
When a show becomes aware of itself
I'm still hopeful, as I have felt this way about other shows that burst on to the scene. I've heard Bill Lawrence interviewed, and it was clear that it took quite an effort just to get this show on the air. That means many passed on it, so the fact that it was a smash success had to take all of them by surprise.
Inevitably they show up for season two thinking "OK, now we're this thing, how do we build on it?" Not well so far. Forced storylines and too much awareness of how I'm supposed to act as Keeley, Beard, etc.
Most people don't remember, but The Office was a slow build. The ratings and accolades were not present at the beginning, so they were continually taking risks and acting as if they were just trying to stay on the air.
Ted Lasso also navigated us beautifully through the 2020 pandemic by staying pretty neutral on political issues. They must be feeling their oats, as they certainly forced one in on with the red hat joke.
I am still on board, and hope it settles in to something watchable from here on out.

The real travesty...
...is that this fiasco rates above so many amazing movies on the IMBD top 100. This rates better than Casablanca?!? Inglorious Bast*rds?!?! Have our standards really sunk this low?

A few things that wannabe critics gloss over
No need to recap what had already been stated. It was majestic. Even after the 3rd viewing.
One critique of Alex has been his "intentional detached aloofness", as if it's some sort of persona for the camera. As a father of a child with autism, I can tell you that Alex is mildly on the spectrum. It may not be diagnosed, but it serves him well in his pursuit. However, the same attributes that help him excel on the mountain also present challenges in relationships. Remember, his father had Aspergers.
Speaking of relationships, many have been critical of Sanni, stating that her concerns are invalid, as she knew what she was getting in to. This is such a shallow and limited view. Somehow people are conveniently omitting that same standard for Alex. He didn't have to take on the relationship. The fact that he did, however, means he also knew what he was getting in to. Are we now to criticize her simply because she expresses to her boyfriend that she rather he not die? I would hope any woman in which I got involved would have similar concerns. Can you imagine partnering with someone so emotionally detached that they wouldn't care if you died? That sounds like an amazing relationship! Further, while expressing her concerns she was also very supportive. Never once did she issue the ultimatum "Either it's me or the rock!" I confess that I pity those that have a problem with her. I hope you're capable of a healthy relationship, one in which expressing feelings is considered healthy and par for the course.
Beauty and the Beast (2017)
As with most things, you'll find what you're looking for...
I just love wannabe IMDb movie critics. No room for nuance. Must hate any movie unless it has subtitles. Who do you suppose the audience is? I took my 7 and 9 year old girls. They loved it, and I was entertained. Guess what they weren't thinking! Whether or not CGI was getting in the way. IT'S A FANTASY PEOPLE!!! This may also explain why they weren't concerned whether or not the characters were realistic enough. How many talking clocks and candelabras do we know in our real lives?!?! Those that want to pan this have to come to terms with the fact that they are looking for ways to be miserable. Please don't pollute the rest of us with your chosen misery.
