Basura a la española
21 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This film is a complete waste of time and obviously is a product of some script writer and director who seem to believe anybody can be interested in the false adventures of sex, alcohol and drugs of three morally bankrupt mentally ill people they try to present as normality.

The viewers cannot be impressed, seduced, surprised nor enriched in anyway by this nonsense of film which lacks all credibility because of the age of the characters who would have to be much younger to live that sort of nightlife.

In summary, a repulsive, boring, and totally lacking any imagination film that would be better in yesterday's waste bin. Yesterday's because it is already burnt in the garbadge dump.

Pathetic

What happened to Adam Sandler movies? They used to be real fun, until about 3 movies ago when all of the sudden it all turned foul mouthed pornographic sexual talk and immoral.

Am I old fashioned or close minded? Come on, this movie sucks. It doesn't hold. And the adventure of breaking up a family, in spite of two young kids, just like that, is not funny at all.

Adam, you probably earn more money this way, but let me tell you that you and your movies are getting worse all the time and you should look back at those that were more family oriented, where a nice guy like you fits in better.

Worth it - gets better as from the second half
6 February 2009
The movie seems a bit slow at first. One wonders if it's going to be a realistic crude harsh war movie, as we have grown accustomed to in the last years, or a romantic poetic depiction of this folk hero/legend.

As one gets into the film, one discovers it's both things. There are several sub themes. The jealousy and competitiveness between brothers, the strong contrasting point of views from how the German pilots lived and saw the war as compared to their infantry mud submerged counterparts, the beauty of the initial sportsmanship displayed by Richthoffen and many other airmen in their practice of war, the love story, and many more.

Perhaps the most appealing to some of us is the gradual turn of things towards the impending tragedy, how the characters seem to express it just in the way they look at each other and how this epic sized hero, well represented by the unknown actor Tomas Koutnik, embraces his fate with a powerlessness and dignity that reflects the whole of humanity's ultimate choices when faced with the certain end: play out the role you've been assigned in this life with dignity.

Congratulations to this director, his craftsmanship, the actors, the staff, and let me not forget specially that wonderful Lena Heady who is very sensual and sublime!

Hello Taliban, we Love you
5 July 2008
Well, not that bad after all. At first it seemed like an award winning documentary explaining exactly why the world hates America. Later it looked more like a flic done to annoy and get back at the Taliban. Eventually one realizes that no, it's only a chronicle of the senseless, empty life of people who live in adoration of the superfluous products of Louis Vutton, Cartier, and Vogue magazine. Whose maximum objective is to have the rich and famous type lifestyle the media has made every effort to promote in the last decades, as if it weren't nothing more than a bottomless pit where real satisfaction is never attained. But no again. This movie, this story is not even that. It really is just a girly movie about love, luxury, living life being what you are not, glitter, appearance, sex, bullshit. The type of people you'd never want as parents of your child in any case. A 2 hour covert commercial for the Vogue lifestyle in other words.

Getting a good job as the key to happiness? Come on, give me a break !
16 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is pathetic. OK, maybe the movie is well done; I'm talking about the story itself. It has a predictable ending. There really are no surprizes, it's boring. it's totally unrealistic. The main character comes out as if he were some sort of rags to riches superman. Quite stupid to say the least. The theme seems to be that the utmost happiness comes through getting a good paying job, as a stock broker in this case. In a super competitive environment, only very few can achieve such a status. What happens to the many who don't? Are they therefore condemned to unhappiness? Are stock brokers all really happy just because they have a good paying job? What is the author of this story, whether it's based on real life or not, really trying to say? That only the few privileged ones that manage to, through really hard work, get that special job are the ones whom deserve to reach happiness? I just don't get the whole thing. I guess it's just a product of the perverse USA job culture. But, if you ask me, the movie is really lame, stupid, boring, and carries no message at all. I wouldn't waste 10 seconds on it, sorry

Superb - But this movie is not about punk or anarchy
1 October 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I just viewed and enjoyed this movie a lot. Not everything was great all the time, but in general it is a great work. The talk at the Mall near the beginning about the origin of punk etc is hilarious!!!

I liked especially because: -I am from the late 70's punk era -Many of the philosophical arguments are quite real and relevant -Some of the music was great -The way things develop and how the story ends is just great--and realistic too-

But the main theme is NOT punk, nor anarchy --------------------------------------- From a mature viewpoint, and being totally familiar with the punk culture since its inception, for me the main theme of this movie is not about punk, nor anarchy. No, the main thing is how certain attitudes that one holds during youth sooner or later cannot be maintained, because things like love and your own instincts eventually force you to change. In other words, many of those attitudes and ideas one thinks are the best and unmovable during youth, there comes a point change and other things become important. Actually, this is a process one goes through during our whole life, not only in the transition between the young years and becoming older.

(Actually the attitudes maintained by these guys would be impossible without having their daddys and mommys paying for their rent. It's easy to defend anarchy if you have all their needs covered!)

Acting was FANTASTIC. The main actor is really out of this world. In the funny, rebellious, but also the dramatic scenes, he was superb

A potential masterpiece
21 August 2005
The first thing that attracted me of this movie is its FIRST CLASS music. I know it is similar to the Star Wars sound track, but it is very very well done.

I've seen the movie now for a second time, after many years, and I am still impressed because it has a simple plot and no great movie stars, but it is all quite enchanting.

Sure, it's got its faults, but the movie as a whole is very sweet, entertaining, with lovable characters and, of course that MUSIC which is A MASTERPIECE.

I think it's worth seeing.
