In the Heights (2021)
A musical portray
Being Latin America, I love the intent on representing our culture more within cinema. I loved the music, some of the lyrics though seem a bit lazy (far too simple and literal, when I believe Latin American culture and music comes better in metaphors). But I did love the rhythms and the dancing, I definitely wish there was more of that out there in the world.
Nevertheless, the story is boring. There is no story really, at least not a story in the traditional sense temporarily or argumentative. The story does not progresses, it does not move anywhere. From my perspective, this movie is a portrait. A still portray of a place and time. I watched for the music, but the story was not captivating. There was no story, no real developments, and ultimately it all remains the same.
The Father (2020)
Masterpiece
It now seems incredible to me that never before a film had approached this illness from the perspective of the one suffering. It is a wonderful and harrowing view into losing your mind.
You imagine how it might be for someone to lose their memory and be confused about reality, but this movie really manages to convey the real complexity of it. It gives you a perspective you never thought you needed and that you will never forget.
Amazing movie, incredible acting, wonderful music and perfect pase. Truly a masterpiece.
Holidate (2020)
Terrible
I simply couldn't stand it. This story line has been made one million times already. Sometimes they manage to come up with small elements that add to a new movie, but this was an exact copy of everything that has been done before. Bad acting, bad performance, incredibly stupid senseless story line. I like some cheesy rom coms, but this was just plain awful even for the genre.
I Care a Lot (2020)
It had potential
The concept had great potential. Rosamund as always is great at playing such a character. Nevertheless, the movie gets ridiculous very quickly. Unrealistic to a point that completely ruins the movie.
Love and Monsters (2020)
Just what I needed
This is the kind of movie I had been waiting for. In the style of zombieland, it has an entertaining story line that keeps you interested during the entire movie. It has some some cheesy moments and the kind of lightweight absurd comedy I needed. I loved it :)
Soul (2020)
Beautiful message, great animation and wonderful soundtrack
It is an incredible movie, one of Pixar's Masterpieces. Probably my favourite movie of Pixar alongside Inside Out. I believe is a message we all need to hear, specially during these difficult times. For me, it could not have come at a better moment. Music is beautiful and the animations are remarkable. It is a movie with a lot of significance for adults, never forget to appreciate the little things. It may bee too deep for children, and some of the jokes are wonderful but require certain background knowledge that children won't have.
Nevertheless, I encourage everyone to see it! You will not regret it.
