The Mandalorian (2019)
Predictable, clumsy, boring
Watching the Mandalorian I got a strong eighties vibe. It is the A-team/knight rider in the Star Wars universe with some western tropes shoveled in.
The slow pace is better then the JJ "you blinked and you missed a scene" style but still still it is crappy television.
The stories are extremely dumb and recycled. The acting (haha) is stiff. People just stand and talk. The fx vary between good and not so good. Once you spot the ledwall trick you see it everywhere and it makes the scenes small.
The thing I dislike the most is the fanservice. "remember this toy?" "remember this outfit?" "remember this line of dialogue from a real movie?"
Tenet (2020)
okayish, a sort of inception rehash
I liked the theme a lot but couldn't care much for the movie itself. Didn't get invested in the characters because nothing is given much backstory, and what you do get is often a bit cliché (the arms dealer, his wife, big shoot out at the end etc)
Tenet feels like a "let's make another inception but a few things changed". By far not my favourite CN movie.
Extraction (2020)
slow rehash of known tropes
Saw somewhere that this was a popular movie on NF. The story is predictable, the acting mwah, and overall the pace is just too slow for a solid action flic, and the story too thin for something more dramatic. Now it is neither.
VFX are cheap, for the rest nothing remarkable.
Taxi (1998)
Dumb and outdated.
Saw it yesterday, 22 years after it was made and if it was any good, it didn't age wel.
It is dumb, sexist, not funny, not thrilling, totally predictable and totally forgetable.
I was surprised that they bothered to make sequels.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Even disappointing with low expectations
As a kid, I was a fan. Saw the original trilogy movies (in all its forms) about 200 times (in total). Not that A New Hope or Return of the Jedi were really good movies, but they were special.
Then The Phantom Menace happened and I realised the magic was gone and wouldn't come back, and this was confirmed with the other two prequels.
I was bored out of my mind when I saw The Force Awakens (although it started good). I actually enjoyed The Last Jedi (even more with each time I've seen it) but yes, it does have it flaws.
So, my expectations weren't that high, but at least if it got to the level of TFA the closure would be boring but decent.
There is very little I liked about Rise Of Skywalker. The story (as far as there is any) is too dumb to mention. The typical rehasing of some familiar elements by J.J. Abrams didn't work. Again.
It's just everything in overdrive.
Everything is inflated.
There is no substance in this movie.
None whatsoever.
Even Ian McDiarmid and Adam Driver couldn't salvage this wreck.
Alpha (2018)
awful crap
Okay, I walked out on this one after 45m because I didn't want to lose another hour of my life on this awful movie. Absolutely nothing was convincing. Over the top CG, over-romanticized story, cheezy music, and very, very predictable. A sort of rip-off of The Good Dinosaur but then with a snowflake instead of a dino.
But if you're <20 or have kids you might like it.
