Black Adam (2022)
Good film
I thought Black Adam was an enjoyable film, as long as the viewer knows what to expect.
If you are expecting an instant classic, this is not going to be it.
Dwayne Johnson, Pierce Brosnan, along with the supporting cast, fulfill all of their roles admirably.
The script could have used some tightening up, the visuals come across competent.
Hopefully, there will be a sequel, giving more depth to the characters and the story as well.
I saw other viewers rating this low based on Marvel ripoffs, unfortunately, there are many similarities between these two comic companies. I believe you shouldn't put such high expectations, just enjoy these movies for what they are, a pleasant diversion.
Momentum (2015)
Momentum
Momentum is actually a very good movie, I was definitely surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Yes, there are several things that you can criticize, but overall, the film was well made and entertaining.
I did notice that some of the other reviewers were asking, why Morgan Freeman would agree to assuming a role in
Momentum. Researching the film, I learned that this was Stephen Campaneli's first film, therefore, Morgan Freeman agreed to perform because they were friends, and that's what friends do for one another.
For action film enthusiasts, I would highly recommend Momentum. If you are less inclined to enjoying this genre, it probably will not do much for you. There certainly worse movies than this, but, it really depends on what the viewer is looking for in a movie.
Magic Boys (2012)
Diamond Heist (Magic Boys)
Diamond Heist (Magic Boys) could have been a very enjoyable movie experience, but, somehow, it lost itself along the way.
Is it a comedy of errors formula? Is it a dark crime film? Was it supposed to be a solid mix of both? The viewer cannot answer these questions, because apparently, the film makers could not tell them.
Unfortunately, there was a potential for a good movie here, but, I believe it was lost in translation. The version I viewed, literally had no subtitles for the Hungarian language, and you are left to infer what the characters are saying based on the actors.
Diamond Heist (Magic Boys), may, one day, be remade into a cohesive film experience, sadly, this version misses the mark.
Acts of Violence (2018)
Acts of Violence
Acts of Violence is a good watch, nothing out of the box on this one.
The pros: Bruce Willis
Cole Hauser
Shawn Ashmore
Mike Epps
The cons: The script
The pace
Overall, Acts of Violence comes across as a fairly even movie, and as far as B movies, you could certainly do worse. Cole Hauser is really the stand out, he was very believable as a veteran struggling with life back home. Mike Epps plays the villian in near-perfect fashion. Complimented by a more than competent supporting cast, these two fine actors, drive this film to a satisfying conclusion.
The script could have, and truly should have been better written, and I think that would have benefittted the pacing. Acts of Violence is not for everyone, but, if you enjoy movies, despite whether they are masterpieces are not, you will probably enjoy this movie.
Burning Palms (2010)
Burning Palms
Burning Palms is a decent movie with a great cast. The first story will probably hit most viewers the hardest, if not the final story.
The first segment: It is hard to believe. That the father is having an incestuous relationship with his daughter. Even though he seems comfortable with her having sex with a one-night stand. His fiancee is dismayed by their behavior toward one another, rightfully so, but rather than leaving, decides to commit suicide, like the daughter's birth mother. I would rate this part about a 5.
The second segment was a lot more entertaining, very dark, but, more in line with type of story. I would rate this part an 8.
The third segment, while I believe to be better than the first, is not as good as the second. It a heavy comment on how society treats and views it's children. I would rate this part a 6.
The fourth segment again shows how are children are viewed, but, on several different levels. The children seemingly abandoned by the parents, to be raised by others. How that effects their interaction with with other children. Finally, the maid, who so easily murders her own child. I would rate this part at a 6.
The fifth segment, much like the first, will be unsettling for most viewers. Rape is not a subject which we willingly discuss. The character's reaction to that act is certainly a idea. I would rate this part at a 5.
Mother's Day on Walton's Mountain (1982)
Mother's Day on Walton's Mountain
Mother's Day on Walton's Mountain is a continuation of one of the greatest series to ever be televised.
The story of this family has continued to fascinate people, even now. For those of us who grew up in this region of the country, we see people and situations familiar to our own lives, as well as the past of our own families.
There are some problems with the cast and storyline that will leave some viewers with a sour taste, but overall, the nostalgia remains.
Mother's Day on Walton's Mountain does fall short when the actual mother of the family does not show up in the end, had that been the final scene, this would be perfect.
A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion (1993)
A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion
A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion is a good film, despite a few continuity errors.
I remember watching this television series as a child, and like many of my generation, I felt the great nostalgic longing of the past.
Unfortunately, I find myself truly missing Will Geer leading the family, but every generation must give way to the next, no matter how it effects our nostalgia.
Unlike some of the other reviewers, I did not expect the family to be locked in a time capsule. To believe that this family would not evolve along side the world according to each time period.
A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion is not perfect, but, it serves a reminder of times past and even shows all the potential of the family's future.
A Christmas Story (1983)
A Christmas Story
A Christmas Story is a decent movie, as for myself, I do not understand all of the hype surrounding it.
Perhaps had I watched this as a child, I would have a sense of nostalgia, but, as waited until I was middle aged, it just did not hit me that way.
I would possibly watch it again, however, I do not think I will be making it an annual tradition.
There are some humorous moments that are undeniable, and the ending in which Ralphie finally receives the coveted Red Ryder range-model BB rifle is touching. Watching his father's joy at sharing a parent child tradition does add to the final payoff.
A Christmas Story is certainly worth taking the time to watch, maybe new viewers would do well to not get too hyped up before their first time viewing it.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is an annual tradition around our, as I imagine it is for most families.
Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid put in their best performances ever, complimented by stars of the past, and the future.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation presents Chevy Chase as Clark, the befuddled every man, that everyone can sympathize with. The greedy boss, who can not be bothered to remember your name, takes away your bonus, one of the greatest benefits of the holiday.
We also see the troubles of our fellow citizens when they struggle to provide for their families, and showing how we come together to help one another. Meanwhile, the joy of this comedy of errors keeps you laughing throughout.
Funny Money (2006)
Funny Money
Funny Money is definitely nowhere near as funny as it sounds, or in truth, should have been.
The pros:
The cast
The premise
The cons:
The jokes
The direction
Funny Money has a cast and premise that could have easily made this film an instant classic. Unfortunately, that did not pan out, the jokes that managed to land, did so overwhelmingly, but many of them just missed the mark.
Funny Money uses a comedy of errors type formula, and while I usually enjoy these types of movies, I felt a bit underwhelmed by this one. Some of the problems stem from dipping from the same well too often. I enjoy a solid call back as much as anyone else, but, with comedy, timing is everything. While Funny Money is definitely not the best movie I've seen, it's certainly not the worst.
The Forger (2014)
The Forger
The Forger is a decent if somewhat off/on paced story. The acting was competent, but not overwhelmingly exceptional.
The Forger suffers from a poorly crafted screenplay, and lackluster direction. While it starts off fairly well, the pace begins ebb and flow unevenly.
The Forger has some really strong star power, but, they're performances are extremely restricted by a loosely constructed script.
The Forger is a good watch for viewers who do not mind patiently awaiting a so/so ending. There is a good underlying theme that's comes across as realistic, cancer and a drug-addicted parent. The Forger is an ok watch, if you are unable to find something better.
Firefly: Bushwhacked (2002)
Bushwhacked
Bushwhacked takes a deeper dive into the underlying stories in the Firefly/Serenity universe.
We start to learn more about the Alliance, and each characters experience with the political structure around its procedures.
We also get a stronger inclination as to what a Reaver is, and the amount of devastation and havoc that they bring to the storyline.
Bushwhacked is an appropriate term for how both the Alliance and Reavers can such dismay in their wake, though they do so in very different ways.
We also given more character development with members of the crew, the personalities truly start coming to the forefront.
Firefly: The Train Job (2002)
The Train Job
The Train Job is an action packed episode, with a heart-warming conclusion. Plenty has already been mentioned of the out sequence scheduling of the episodes, fortunately, even if viewed out of order, this does not diminish the quality of show.
I understand that some people do not like the basic premise of this classic, we cannot like the same things all of the time.
I immediately fell in love with this show, I like westerners, sci-fi and pirates, and I believe this to be an excellent combination of these genres.
The casting is perfect, the production quality hits the spot, but, most importantly, this is a very well conceived and written script.
The Train Job is a shining,(or "shiny"),example of this wonderful thought universe.
The Art of the Steal (2013)
The Art of the Steal
The Art of the Steal is a really entertaining film, that does not try to take itself too seriously. Kurt Russell, Matt Dillon and Terence Stamp join with other minor stars to bring this movie to life.
While The Art of the Steal may not be the most original premise contrived, it still manages to captivate the viewer. The cinematography, as well as the direction seemed fairly well on point.
According to some of the reviews I read, the biggest complaint with this particular film was that it came off unoriginal and the humor seemed forced, I personally did not mind the unoriginality, and found the humor to be spot on.
Halloween Pussy Trap Kill Kill (2017)
Fun for some
Halloween Pussy Trap Kill! Kill! Is not as bad as some lower budget movies.
Richard Grieco puts in an honest day's work showing the potential of his youth was not merely hype.
Dave Mustaine is a perfect choice to voice the villian.
You will find that there is nothing original about this particular script, but, it's still a lot fun.
The truth is you should never allow yourself to take these types of movies too seriously.
Anyone finding themselves in any way disappointed by this venture, have only themselves to blame.
Halloween Pussy Trap Kill! Kill! Never claimed to be more than it is, a chance to kick back and turn loose of all of your stress and have fun.
This movie is not for most viewers, if the description and/or trailer do not appeal to you, then, you should avoid this film.
The Cheerleader Sleepover Slaughter (2022)
Good movie
The Cheerleader Sleepover Slaughter was actually a very enjoyable movie, was it the greatest movie ever made, no.
Just for the record, I'm in no associated with anyone who was in anyway involved in the film.
The cast and crew seemed to have had a great time making this film.
I would not recommend this for most viewers, and I think a person should be in the right mood to really experience it.
I do have my doubts that The Cheerleader Sleepover Slaughter will reach cult classic status, but, you never really can tell about these things.
If you are reading this and are interested in watching The Cheerleader Sleepover Slaughter you should also watch Die Die Delta Pi, there is an actual connection between the two films.
Joe Vampire (2012)
Could have been better
Thus far, I have watched four Sean Donohue films, with mixed reactions. Zed's Dead was good, and appeared to have achieved the goal based upon the premise. Die Die Delta Pi was definitely my favorite so far. Dead Residence and Joe Vampire are without a doubt my least favorites.
The problem is that from their descriptions, they both had a lot of promise. If someone asked me, should they watch Sean Donohue's filmography, I would have to say that they are hit or miss.
If do not mind a movie that is far from the top of the line, you can find some of these quite enjoyable. I would not recommend these films to large segments of the viewing population.
Die Die Delta Pi (2013)
Die Die Delta Pi
Die Die Delta Pi is a good send up to classic '80's slasher movies.
As with the movies of this genre from a bygone Era, the acting is not of the highest caliber, but that makes this film all the more truer to its roots.
Die Die Delta Pi does not try to reinvent the wheel, rather it tips its hat to the past.
There is nothing new to dazzle the viewer, but it does not insult the original genre either.
The classic feel is enamoring to cult watcher of this type film. Anyone expecting to be surprised, or challenged by storyline, you have chosen the wrong movie.
I do not believe this movie is for everyone, but fans of the genre should be well pleased with the result.
Dead Residence (2019)
Disappointed
Another disappointing found footage movie. I feel like I have been Blair Witched again.
The biggest problem is there is an actually good premise, but there is no satisfactory payoff.
I did rate Dead Residence higher than Blair Witch, because, at least the acting was better. Realistically though, acting doesn't get much worse than Blair Witch.
I really enjoyed Zed's Dead, Which led me to Dead Residence, thinking I would find it just as compelling.
Yes, I realize this is a very low budget movie, I was not expecting an epic of Citizen Kane proportions. However, I felt that three quarters of the movie was completely wasted, and even when the story begins its climax, it's over.
Maybe they should have named this Bad Sex, it would be appropriate given the ride.
Zed's Dead (2021)
Actually, this was as expected
Zed's Dead, is exactly what you wanted it to be.
It never takes itself too seriously, and does not ask the viewer to either.
The movie does not pretend to be more than it is, having said that, people who are not appreciative of this genre, would be better served to avoid this film.
There will be academy awards in Zed's Dead's future, the acting, the directing and even elements of the storyline, are better than other similarly styled movies.
I really enjoyed this film, unfortunately, given the low budget nature, I can only rate it so high, but, overall, it a likable parody.
Zed's Dead lives up to the promises made to potential viewers, while not insulting the original material.
The Death Merchant (1991)
The Death Merchant
The Death Merchant is a very low budget movie. The only good things to be said about it are it has a short run time and Lawrence Tierney.
The sound production is horrendous, I am not sure how it recorded, but it sounds as if the microphones were all held in a metal cargo drum.
I could only recommend this film to viewers seeking to watch all of Lawrence Tierney's filmography.
The Death Merchant is typical to lower budget movies filmed in this particular time period.
Thankfully, Lawrence Tierney had greater highlights toward the end of career than this, and can still be remembered for his filmography as a whole.
Female Jungle (1955)
Good film
I really enjoyed this noir, solid story, acting and directing. Carradine, Tierney and Mansfield, gave a good account.
I was surprised by the fine acting of the secondary and tertiary actors as well. If I had to complain, I would say the lighting could have been a bit brighter in spots, and the pacing seemed to speed up too much towards the end. I imagine that this is because of the short shooting schedule that the studio had given them.
Given that this was a B movie, with a limited budget and schedule, I think the cast and crew did a wonderful job, and should be commended.
I will be searching for more hidden gems such as this one.
The Hoodlum (1951)
Good film
I really enjoyed this movie, yes it is does have a smaller budget, typical for this era.
Mostly, I believe that it delivers what it has promised to the viewer. There are no surprises, just a straight forward narrative.
The acting is typical of the time period as well, no one was thinking academy awards were coming from this vehicle.
This is a B movie in the greatest sense of the term. It is overall an entertaining story, the idea, while not original, does remain interesting throughout.
Viewers who do not appreciate films of this era, Black/White, low budget, etc., would do well to avoid this.
Range 15 (2016)
Good film
I watched the trailer for this movie, and knew what I was in for, therefore, I wasn't disappointed.
I'm not sure why those that gave it a bad review even bothered to watch it. They told you from the beginning what you getting, and that's what they delivered.
I have no connection to anyone associated with this film, I was in no way compensated for this review, I just honestly enjoyed the movie.
It looked as if everyone in the cast was having fun, and I had fun as I was watching. I think many of those giving this bad reviews, didn't watch the trailer, or do not enjoy these types of movies.
On a personal note, I think that anyone who did not watch the entire movie, should be writing reviews. If you truly thought it was that bad, why bother taking the time to to write a review?
Nude Nuns with Big Guns (2010)
Good movie
If you read the title, then you read the description and then chose to watch the trailer, you should have been fully aware of what you were going to see.
Honestly, given the premise, I expected to be less than overwhelmed by this film. Yet, I found myself pleasantly surprised, I really enjoyed it.
Some reviewers, for whatever reason, believed they were getting something more. There was literally no false advertising, from title to description, to trailer, you were warned. You have no right to trash this movie, it delivered exactly what was promised, and then some. I would have loved to have seen a sequel.
