First season was terrific, second season....
27 August 2023
Well, all those same interesting characters from the first season...they are all stupid now. That's right, somehow between the first and second season all the characters on the show lost several IQ points. Something tragic must have happened because all those same people are now acting foolish, making non-sensicle choices for no apparent reason except, maybe to move the plot along.

Ok, all sarcasm aside, its really upsetting because the first season was close to brilliant. The writing was smart and the show kept you on the edge of your seat, both the suspense and horror were top notch with well written characters who acted like real people stuck in an unreal situation. That's no more. The basic rules of the show have been thrown out and decisions made are constantly out of character. The alpha, Boyd, played by the always terrific Harold Perrinue, yells and screams when he's lost in the woods even though he knows to be quiet (that's how they find you,) the town refer to an obviously troubled young girl as a psychopath even though just about everyone should understand how she's being used. The one gentle and empathic deputy wants this girl to be ripped apart and killed. The "Mom," Tabitha, is keeping secret that she is seeing ghosts even though that is directly what least to other people dying and they have even talked about it. Two other characters, Ellis and his girlfriend, Fatima, all of a sudden are acting like they just arrived in this town though they have been here for over a year and were both voices of reason in the first season.

A terrific example of what I'm talking about: Boyd returns from exploring the woods and surrounding area on an overnight trip. When he returns and tells his son, Ellis, what he witnessed throughout that harrowing night, Ellis expresses doubt and says "if you don't want to tell me what really happened then don't." Or something to that effect, implying he doesn't believe him, that Boyd is lying to him because his story is so unbelievable. Yet he lives in a town where creatures come out at night and rip people to pieces. But Boyd's story is too "out there." Lol.

They are a ton more examples I could give but it's really just depressing to watch a show go from original and exciting to a complete mess written by someone who has never interacted with real people.

I'm gonna stick with it too see if it somehow turns around but I don't have a lot of hope.

And for the record I was a huge "Lost" fan all the way through, even the end, which I found very satisfying. I never expected it to answer everything. I was happy with where it went, how it got there and, a lot like real life, not everything was neatly tied up in a bow. For me the journey made it all worth while.

We'll see how this quest goes...

I don't know what these complaints are about...
5 July 2023
This was a terrific ending to a great series of movies (I just pretend "Crystal Skull" doesn't exist.) It's a rousing, extremely fun movie with some truly funny scenes and amazing action set pieces. I started laughing, whole heartedly, right at the start, with Indy battling that noose that seemed determined to hang him and the smile remained on my face for the next, very quick, two and a half hours.

I don't know what people are comparing about, I thought this film captured the magic, thrills and humor that we have come to expect from an Indiana Jones adventure, did it well and put a nice end cap on the series to boot.

As to why it's not making as much money as people thought it should, well Indy is a little long in the tooth and most of the younger audience are just not going to show up for an 80 year old man galavanting around the globe no matter who he is. That's kind of common sense. While older folks, like myself, would rather just wait a few months and watch it at home on our 80 inch, 4K, DTS home theater without all the hassle of going out and paying roughly $50 bucks for two people to see a film.

And that is EXACTLY what it is: 2 iMax tickets at $18.00 apiece, 1 popcorn for $10.00 and two large drinks at $8.00 each, equalling another $16.00 for a total of $62.00. And that's without parking or baby sitters that I, fortunately, don't have but I know lots of folks do. I'll probably pay that for Mission Impossible 7 but if I don't, I won't be spending that again until either The Marvels in November or Deadpool 3 next May.

40 years later it still holds

It may be politically incorrect and wrong by today's standards in ooohhh so many ways but it's also still very funny and very sweet. Shelly Long would never be as charming again (even on "Cheers,") Henry Winkler would never have as good a starring role and, of course, It's Michael Keaton's break out role. Not to mention Kevin Costner's film debut; in the morgue conga line he's the frat boy directly behind Keaton's Billy Blaze.

Surprisingly, for a movie about a prostitution ring run out of a city morgue, it's a pretty "wholesome" film. Written by the Happy Days team of Ganz and Mandell and directed by Happy Days alum Ron Howard, the movie has about the same level of risqueness with violence at a minimum and no drug use.

Howard's major studio debut is absolutely terrific and Keaton, of course, steals the show. You can see Beetlejuice down the road but his more understated moments are some of the films best.

And watch for Charles Fleischer (Roger Rabbit) as a disturbed jail mate.

Funny stuff.

Box office flop is surprisingly on the money
3 December 2022
Being one of those stories that takes place decades ago but is more relevant for what is going on today. Instead of MAGA here you've got the committee of the five though both insist there is nothing more patriotic then throwing out the constitution and the bill of rights and installing a Dictatorship in the white house. Though this coup almost happened shortly before WWII as opposed to the failed attempt we witnessed only a couple of years ago.

Filled with a ton of A-listers and anchored by yet another rock solid performance from Christian Bale, this movie is an often hilarious dramatization off a mostly forgotten moment in our country's history: when a select few wealthy business owners decided the USA would be best off adapting the philosophies of Hitler and Mussolini and attempted to implement those ideas by replacing President Roosevelt with a leader more to their liking. The plot was exposed and although it was essentially a failed military coup none of the business leaders or financial backers were ever prosecuted or served any jail time.

Almost 100 years later it appears we haven't really come very far doesn't it.

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

One of those movies that will get more popular over time.

Exceeds my expectations
24 November 2022
Being a huge Addams fan (owning the books by Chas Addams, the tv series, the movies and, yes, even the cartoons) I've been looking forward to this new iteration since it was announced a year or two ago. I can tell you it doesn't disappoint and, in fact, delivers on all fronts. Following Christina Ricci's iconic performance is a tall order for anyone but Jenna Ortega knocks it out of the park with her portrayal of the titles title character. Her dead pan, sarcastic delivery is spot on but there's a sweetness to get poison tongue... You know, like ethylene glycol.

Rather than compete with the beautiful Angelica Houston, Catherine Zeta Jones brings her own interpretation to Morticia while Luis Guzman brings to life the Gomez Addams as he appeared in the original New Yorker Cartoons. This is a smart move because when it comes to the late, great Raul Julia.... Well, just don't. There's just no replacing him so sidestepping that issue was the best thing they could do.. Who is also here...Thing, that is. Along with Lurch, Pugsley and Uncle Fester.

There are also some surprises in the cast that I haven't mentioned.

Tim Burton has done a terrific job here of both updating and continuing the adventures of our favorite spooky family and I'm really looking forward to season 2.

A lot of fun
24 November 2022
Clever, very enjoyable who-done-it packed with delightful performances and tons of Easter eggs referencing dozens of mystery and detective stories across theater, film and literature.

It's light hearted and laugh out loud funny. Rockwell is terrific, as usual, Saoirse Ronan brings a surprisingly light touch and a lot of heart to her character, the incomparable Ruth Wilson is among the eclectic rather large supporting cast BUT... Adrian Brody really steals the show with his charming portrayal of a caddish, narcissistic director with no morals what so ever. Very funny, relaxed and easy going romp.

Well done low budget film that takes on an
1 November 2022
Odd subject, Siamese twins, in a straight forward manner. Filmed in a very quiet, low key manner but keeps your interest throughout.

One thing that completely baffles me is how many other reviewers bring up director David Lynch or compare it to one of his films. The movie is NOTHING like a Lynch film. Aside from the Siamese twin there is nothing Lynchian here at all in any way. (And was there ever a Siamese twin in a Lynch film? Seems like there should be but I can't remember one.) It makes me think they either didn't watch the film or didn't pay attention. If I was going to compare it to any other director it would probably be Alan Rudolph. The movie definitely makes me want to seek out director Michael Polish's other films.

Don't pay attention to the trolls
13 October 2022
This is a very funny show created by and starring some very talented people.

It pokes fun at everything from the super hero genre to sitcom tropes in general but with a loving tongue and cheek. You can tell that the cast is genuinely enjoying themselves. The writing is very good and laugh out loud funny.

I am a big fan of the She-Hulk comic books and it is amazing to me how well Marvel Studios has adapted those comics. Not just in breaking the fourth wall (yes, She-Hulk/Jen addresses the audience directly and she was doing it loong before Deadpool even existed) but also in Jen's attitude and the tone of the book in general. This is probably Marvel's most loyal adaption of comic yet. Tatiana Maslany nails the character of both Jennifer Walters and her green skinned alter ego.

The show has some great guest stars, big laughs and takes some pretty good shots at both Marvel Studios AND the internet trolls who have been review bombing the show.

Plus Daredevil AND Wong! How can you go wrong ? Highly recommended.

This movie has a lot to say
24 September 2022
And it says it very well.

Very funny satire not just of slasher films but the general breakdown of society as a whole.

Maria Bakalova proves that "Borat" was no fluke and she's really gifted. Looking forward to more from her in the future. She really stands out amidst a very talented cast.

Pete Davidson is also excellent here.

The direction is taut, the writing is very clever.

The movie is both suspenceful and funny , not an easy mix, with big laughs, some surprising twists and a reveal that is completely surprising but totally earned. I liked it a lot.

Very funny stuff and the ending is awesome.
