Which Rock Have I Been Hiding Under To Miss This Top Telly?!!

I was very late to the party with Gavin & Stacey, only watching it last year and absolutely loving it, so much so, that I've watched every episode at least half a dozen times over including the specials.

Because of G&S I knew of Ruth Jones, despite finding her character disgustingly funny in equal measures, but what a great actor she is !

Been looking for something new to watch and came across STELLA, I'm half Welsh, my paternal Grandparents are from Pontypridd so the right area and one of my favourite friends here in Leicester is from Mountain Ash , also in the Rhondda.

I've been binge watching this brilliant series and still got series 4 to watch. Relatable, funny, sad, weird, outrageous and just utterly brilliantly written and acted.

Ruth, if you are reading this, hats off to you girl, thank you so much for this and Gavin and Stacey ! Can't recommend it enough.

Right, I'm going now, in a minute !! Cheeers.

Shotgun Wedding (2022)

Oh Dear....

Not a fan of J Lo as an actress, so in my opinion it must be her looks that get her these parts. She is in very good shape for a 50+ year old, so fair play to her for that and of course it's a good excuse for her to show off her toned bod. Definitely eye candy for us fellas that's for sure.

I tried to like this, I really did, the plot is just daft, I mean who would invite their ex to their wedding ?

My other half and I looked at each other half way through shaking our heads, grabbed the remote and turned it off.

Not that funny for a romcom, some good actors in it, poor storyline, great location and 1 star for J Lo showing off her amazing figure !

Josh (2014–2017)

A Grower

I quite like Josh W and Ellis, Jack Dee is just Jack, brilliant.

Watched a couple of episodes as wanted something new to watch and initially found it a bit meh.

It's not a laugh a minute comedy but after watching a few more episodes and eventually the entire series I watched them all again.

The penny dropped, put yourself in the show and you become one of the flat mates and feel like you're part of the shenanigans. It's defo male oriented but Beattie is perfect and there are guest comics and well known actors supporting the main cast.

Don't write it off , give it a chance, I did and it would be great to see a new series.

Ps...Jack dee is great as the annoying landlord who is forever just turning up unannounced.

Those that have said this is crap just don't get it.

The Beast (2020)

I Almost Enjoyed This

A pretty blatant rip off of the Liam Neeson movie TAKEN.

It wasn't horrendous by any means but just doesn't have any substance to it. The acting is fairly good and it is quite well shot. Reading subtitles means you may miss some of the movie but it's not a deal breaker, I appreciate not everyone speaks English.

A good attempt but not a patch on TAKEN which I have watched several times and unlike this, will probably watch again for my Liam Neeson fix.

The Courier (2019)

MIssed Opportunity Here

This was ok at best but could have been so much better.

The motorcycle constantly changing gear is an irritant especially when you can see the left foot not doing anything on the BMW S1000r . Olga acted fairly well but she isn't an action actress in my opinion. Charlize Theron would have carried this off really well after seeing her kicking butt in Atomic Blonde.

Attention to detail is key with things like mobile phone screen being lit when on a call , proper gear change sync with actor/stuntman/stuntwoman/white or black ....

The bike sounded great so points for that ....overall, an okay movie that with more effort and perhaps more budget, different lead actress could have been a contender.

Watch once and move on.

Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (2019)

Overrated Tarantino As Usual

There's 2.5 hours of my life I won't get back.

What a steaming pile of horse manure this movie is. I've only got myself to blame as I don't care for any of Tarantino's previous movies.

2 stars for Margot and Brad.....zip for the rest of this waste of film roll.

Gangs of London (2020– )

Powerhouse Of A First Episode

Written by acclaimed action director Gareth Evans who gave us the likes of The Raid and The Raid 2 which means you know there are going to be some seriously good fight scenes and he does not disappoint.

Brilliantly cast, filmed, directed and acted.....the first episode on Sky Atlantic is nearly 2 hours long and is like watching a movie !

All 9 episodes are available to binge watch and if the rest are anything like the first time to get the nibbles and beers in pronto !

Thank you Mr Evans for this brilliant piece of entertainment.

Hollow Point (2019)

Oh Dear....

I don't even know where to begin......an hour and a half of my life wasted watching this movie.

Luke Goss is ok and it's as if he is trying to be the new Jason Statham but failing miserably in my opinion. He looks like a white Mo Farah and his American accent is awful, sounds more like an Englishman that has been around Americans and has picked up a glint of the accent.

The acting is terrible and cheesy, poor plot and very predictable .

One star for Ju Ju who is a hottie and has some martial arts skills.

Avoid.

Bancroft (2017–2020)

Well Acted But Not Quite There

My girlfriend loves her Police dramas and our SkyQ box is choc full of different cop shows including seasons 1 and 2 of Bancroft. My other half was watching the start of season 2 so I decided to stick with her and watch something she likes. Quite a dark show with females playing the lead and senior roles . I don't have a problem with that but it does seem to be a bit politically correct .

Now, I did enjoy the show overall but what let it down for me was the complete and utter insubordination of lower ranks towards their senior counterparts - there was no Ma'am or Sir when addressing ranks of Inspector and above and lower ranks telling higher ranks what to do was all just plain wrong and in all honesty, this destroyed any credibility of the show.

Shame, could have been a belter of a series otherwise.

Big School (2013–2014)

Is this supposed to be a comedy show ? I struggled through 2 episodes and didn't laugh once ! Am I missing something here ? I'm not surprised as it's written by and stars the over-rated David Walliams. What a load of tosh !

I thought I had a good sense of humour, loving the original Porridge, Only Fools, Blackadder, Bottom and stuff like that. This is just a load of tripe in the same league as Jack Whitehall's show . If this is the best we can come up with we are screwed !

Garage Rehab (2017– )

Great Show But Flawed

As the reviewer from Oz stated and exactly what I thought when I watched it for the first time this afternoon, this is great , Richard has thrown a tonne of money and expertise at these failing businesses but what I really wanted to see was how the businesses were doing 3-6 months down the line, did the investment help the flailing businesses or drown them in more debt ? Perhaps there will be a new show to follow: GARAGE REHAB REVISITED ? I would love to know how the business owners got on.
