Enjoyable plot with dated action
13 June 2016
This is a movie that is full of practical effects when needed, and hindered by the poor CGI of the time. While the plot is fascinating and forces me to think deeper than just the bloody murders, the dated cheesy action that was the norm of the time, makes me chuckle and become emotionally detached.

The film is hard to tear away from scene to scene and you'll find that the movie goes by too quickly to satisfy you. And while this movie is not for the ones who become dizzy at the sight of blood, it is a cult classic if i ever saw one.

The plot of the movie is so spectacular in my eyes that i would wish to give it a better rating if it were not for the fact that almost all of the action, jump shots, and dialog are all very dated.

I will watch this movie time and time again despite this. Because I simply love and adore this movie. And I will always be crossing my fingers for this movie to be remade in the same way that Evil Dead was.

I recommend this movie to all horror enthusiasts, and to any who wish to think about a world much darker than our own.

Getting lost in your own ambition
11 June 2016
For a movie with an interesting plot, and enough well known talents to have you assume the best, this movie seems to get lost in itself.

The film starts off with a story that will make you want to know more and characters that you want to see grow in front of your own eyes. I was intrigued by all of this and was excited to see what would happen to all of these people.

The story starts off well executed and with a simple yet surprisingly fun story.

But somewhere around the halfway point, the movie does a U-turn. Taking back everything that it made you grow attached to. With the story, the characters and even the setting turning into something that doesn't quite click with all of it's own setup.

I was left confused as to the reasoning behind the deeper motives of the main character. And I was also inclined to ask why this movie shook loose all of these characters that it spent time persuading you were going to be a bigger part.

This movie had a great setup with some well thought out story telling, but by the end I was left not caring about what happened to who, or why they were there in the first place. And the only thing that I took was the message that they were trying to send about women's rights. That right there was the only thing that i could gather from it's shaky story telling, but even that seemed to be undermined by the protagonist's motives.

Following a 2 step process to make hidden gold
10 June 2016
As more and more action movies come out these days, there seems to be a trend of the writers and directors asking themselves "Why not?" "why not have our hero be indestructible?" "Why not bend the laws of physics to make for a cool looking scene?" or "if it doesn't make sense, then why not force it to?"

When what they should have been asking all along is simply "why?" "Why is this scene going to make sense?" "Why is it that they are out for blood?" and "If we're going to force the script into something that it's not, just to make this one scene work, then why are we putting it in at all?"

This movie asks itself all of the right questions when setting you up for the next scene. You are never lost so that you have time to try and figure out what's going to happen next. And by following a simple two step process, this movie never loses itself in it's amazing practical blood and gritty action.

1:Therefore 2:But

No matter what happens throughout the movie, you can see that it follows these two steps. Which is becoming more and more rare these days. "The money has gone missing" Therefore "The bad guys try and find it using blackmail" but "he fights back" and so on and so forth.

My point being is that this movie is larger than life and is a heart breaker, and at the same time it's eye candy. I could not recommend this movie enough because it's patient with itself but it never forgets what it's there to do, entertain and strike emotion into your heart.

Follow the heard while setting a trend
9 June 2016
This movie does an outstanding job at doing what others have done time and time again, yet does it in a way that captivates you. It will either have you on the edge of your seat, or off to take a bathroom brake without pausing.

The opening scene of this movie is full of good intent but left me feeling confused. And not in the good way, but more in the way that makes you think that this movie is going to be just as bad as you expected.

The rest of the first half of this movie is extremely basic setup. It does absolutely nothing to innovate, captivate, or even make you care about who, what, when, why, where or how. Meet the characters, make them seem young and hip, and as always, convey that they are way out of their league.

All of this made me want to turn off my TV and call it a day. But i decided to stay and it was well worth my patience.

As soon as the characters enter the tombs, the movie picks right up. Making me feel like i'm stuck down there with them and all of their fears being exploited left me as a paranoid wreck through the rest of the film.

The movie isn't that scary, but more intense than anything.

The ending was well thought out and not cliché. It also left me wanting more movies that are written with this much thought.

This movie is a true travesty
9 June 2016
The feeling that i get while watching this movie is that Nelson Greaves (writer) and Levan Gabriadze (director) sat down at a table, took out a laptop, and started typing with a plaque above their heads that held a simple motto that these two seemed to live by while creating this lazy piece of work, "This is how kids act, right?"

The character's are all awful people who are impossible to care about and the plot makes you root for the dead girl. All of these kids are seemingly completely unintelligent with only their own interests in mind.

My point being is that it's difficult to be scared when you want the characters to die.

The ending was horrible and could have very easily been made to leave you without the bad taste in your mouth that the rest of the 80 minutes spent leaving there.

The only reason that i would recommend this movie is to rip it apart with my friends on a "bad horror movie night"
