Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
I am not getting paid to say "Astalavista Babay" ... the terminator is back !!!
Quite honestly, I don't understand the bad reviews here at all. I watched the trailer before going to the movie theater and YESSS I also read all the negative reviews which was a bit of a let down as I had really high hopes for the movie, being a hardcore terminator and Arnold fan, I decided to watch it anyway. So I put up a smile and said to myself, "Meh, what the heck, at least the CGI looks great in the trailers, we can enjoy that right?". So here were are (Me, Wife and the Kid), sitting at the top row and munching on popcorn and the movie starts ... The first scene, well according to the so called "Hardcore Terminator Fans" was a let down. But I don't think so. It was done for a reason, and that is why not everybody can tell (or write) a story and get paid huge for it. To cut to the chase they decided not to DRAG the same story over (as done in the last 2 sequels) and altered the concept slightly to turn things around. It was risky, but I really think it worked out fine. The plot was OK, acting was OK, effects and fight scenes were simply amazing and combined overall result was a decent and good movie and MUCH MUCH better then the last sequels after the legendary T2. This is not a copy, but yet it captures some of the most greatest moments of T2 and throws them afresh towards the audience. It's like ... Yeah that's what T2 was all about !!!!.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and I didnt have high hopes for it, but I was surprised. Wife and the Kid loved it and the audience seems very content and I can tell .. because I am a good face reader :). So just get your tickets, sit back and put on the "Let's give it a shot" attitude and you wont be disappointed !!!
Polar (2019)
WE HAVE A JOHN WICK RIVAL LADIES AND GENTLEMEN !!!
I was charmed by the trailer which looked stunning and is what led me to watch the movie this evening with my buds. We have all seen it time and time again where we get amazing action packed trailers and when the actual movie comes out it's .. well .. "not so amazing" at all. I had the same doubt-ish feeling for Polar as we drove towards the theater but we gave it a shot anyway. Turned out were all greatly surprised and the movie turned out great, full of action, with a bit of emotion and the gory effects were cool too. As it were all mixed together with JUST THE RIGHT QUANTITY + THE EXTRA TOPPING for the special effects. This here ladies and gentlemen is a solid addition to action genre and is a more than decent rival to the John Wick series (No offense to the die hard Keanu fans as I'm one of you guys too). Mads is definitely a great actor, the next big thing for sure and is now one of my favorites. The serious assassin role suits him superbly well, he did a great job with the "serious dude meaning business" act. The plot is simple and predictable at times but it's well executed (the old school way and in a good day) ... the action is great for fans of the genre and any John Wick / Jason Bourne / Liam Neeson fan will definitely be MAD to miss MADS MIKKELSEN in action here :-)
Leave No Trace (2018)
Definitely not a weekend family movie
I was caught by the amazing reviews and 7.2 rating as anything above 6.5 is mostly a must watch on imdb. However, the major mistake I made here was thought this movie would be suitable for a weekend night with friends and family and if you have a similar intention in mind PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Unless you are in the loving father mood, I would recommend staying away. We expected a bit too much I guess, a little action, some suspense but hell no, none of that is in here. The first 30 minutes were ok, building the story and all, the daughter character is pretty good with the acting, but then it just keeps getting slower and slower and man it gets so predictable half way through the movie and half of us already knew how it was going to end. Just one work Great Acting but a very slow paced and boring movie..........
Enter Nowhere (2011)
A good thriller and science fiction combo
Overall I liked the movie, good acting, good directing and plot execution was just fine. It's not the block buster type, but certainly worth watching with family over dinner night or on a weekend. Initially the movie gives you sort of alien abduction vibe but that quickly changes in the next few minutes. Some of the plot areas were a bit too obvious but that doesn't hurt the good execution. Movie starts slow and gets tense as you go.
I would recommend watching it only aren't looking for cool CGI effects or scary monsters, because this ain't evil dead nor a monster movie :)
Stree (2018)
A Big Plus for both the Indian Comedy & Horror Cinema
I rarely watch Indian movies unless strongly recommended by a friend or family member. I had the feeling indian directors had lost their touch and mostly we get titles with either cheap and boring comedy or unwatchable action movies. But every once in a while we get greatly surprised by indian cinema and its creativity and "Stree" is one of those movies, no doubt.
The acting, comedy, dialogues, horror atmosphere, storytelling and even the animation was superbly done. The timings of the jump scares and direction couldnt have been done better. The atmosphere will at times keep you at the edge of your seat. I really enjoyed the movie with my wife and it was our anniversary and we both loved it. This is one of those movies you ought to go and watch with your loved one or with your best buddies if you don't have a stree yet :).
Weekend Box Office: August 10 to 12 (2018)
Watch it for what it is and you wont be dissappointed
I am seeing a lot of reviews and people complaining about bad acting and stuff, well guess what these monster flicks arent about acting sometimes, they are just flicks where your focus should be on the monster. I would say the monster (meg) was very well done. The acting was ok too, not all that bad as the reviews say. The movie had a couple of jump scares too of you arent playing Sherlock Holmes and watching it open mindedly, you just might enjoy it :-). Its a great summer addition to monster movies and shark fans wont be dissappointed at all. Go have fun with your family, its definitely worth watching !!!
Burning Bright (2010)
A Decent Saturday night family flick !!!
Overall the movie is pretty decent, the tiger scenes and jump scares are nicely done. It has everything you need in a movie that makes up for a weekend family movie night. The only complain I had is that the acting and expressions could've been a lot better delivered. Our lead female character didn't put up the right expressions when needed, I mean there is a huge tiger (Bengal Tiger to be specific) roaming around the house and hungry as hell .... You would be damn scared in that situation, but she however ... seems calm and determined as if she was an outsider sent to eliminate the tiger or something.
Having that said, the above is fairly ignore able if you just want to sit down, munch on some popcorn and simply enjoy it with the family and ignore the minor errors.
Overall, its a good one to miss on .... !!!
Kong: Skull Island (2017)
2017's First Critical MONSTER HIT !!!!!!!!!!
Kong Skull Island, without a doubt is not only the best King Kong movie but a great monster movie to WATCH this year. It delivers exactly what its supposed to: SCARY MONSTERS, EPIC MONSTER BATTLES, SCARES AND LAUGHS and SCENES WORTH CLAPPING FOR IN THE CINEMA HALL:-).
The story. the direction, the camera, the acting ... EVERYTHING about this movie is great which makes it a fun and must watch MONSTER FLICK with friends and family. Unlike most monster movies it leaves you satisfied and oh yes ... don't forget to watch the post credits scene :-)
The Curse of Sleeping Beauty (2016)
Excellent Start but did not carry all the way!!!
I was a bit hesitant to watch this one but my GF insisted and hence the review. I was quite surprised with the initial plot which was a bit mysterious and had a touch of fantasy to it. The acting was great and I was really enjoying it but half way through the movie they just threw everything away.
The plot just gets weird around the last quarter of the movie and seemed like either the director was in a rush to wrap everything up and go home or one of the actors wanted to quit early or something. It just felt incomplete, leaving you with tons of questions and a poker face wondering what just happened .....
