The End of the F***ing World (2017)
If the title didn't initially remind me of Douglas Adams, the show surely did
It has its great moments, but the plot won't always be logical or very satisfactory, specially towards the end of Season 1. There's a lot of details the show doesn't explain because (probably) the writers think they're not central to the story, and they move pretty fast and even jump in time to tell it.
If you are the kind of viewer that prefers to enjoy the journey instead of the destination, and if you like dark comedy even when the characters can be a nuisance, this is a show you could enjoy.
Miranda Sings Live... Your Welcome (2019)
Quite funny...but so, so condescending
I liked pretty much everything except the infantilization going on with her fans. And the not-so-veiled . Thank God it wasn't as apologetic towards bullying and toxic behavior as some of her other material.
Haters Back Off! (2016)
I couldn't finish Season 1 - It was uncomfortable to watch
I decided to watch the show out of curiosity after her Netflix special, but I couldn't get past episode 6 (where it goes from annoying but funny to seriously concerning...).
I have nothing against her voice or acting (or herself), I could forgive the fact Miranda uses inadequate euphemisms and treats 12-15 year old fans in a condescending way (maybe they like to be infantilized in front of their parents) but there's some lines that shouldn't be crossed: as soon as serious harm against a family member is depicted as "no big deal" I knew I couldn't watch anymore.
But seriously, it should have a TW: Bullying before each episode, considering who's her main demographic.
Static (2012)
It's kind of predictable if you pay attention to details...
...and it could have been better without the scene that reveals the main mystery in the first 5 minutes.
Good acting, good cinematography (a bit too grey, though. I don't think it was very necessary) but the script is still a bit odd to make of this an excellent movie. I didn't know if feeling scared, intrigued or plain sad and in the end I felt like re-watching the same old story other movies told.
Chosen (2013)
Like a boat adrift
The first season is quite interesting, has suspense, a promising story and two good performances (Milo Ventimiglia and Diedrich Bader). Despite Nicky Whealan's insipid character, it could have become a popular thriller. I'm giving it a quite generous rating for it.
Sadly, the change of focus to Jacob Orr as the leading guy was a risky move that didn't work well. The character is not as solid as Ian Mitchell (who we see in a couple of Season 2 scenes that are just filler), Chad Michael Murray fails to make him anything other than dull and far-fetched, and the abundance of unanswered questions or unexplained inconsistencies don't help. The show becomes a vessel in the sea without a port of departure or a particular destination in mind. I didn't even try to watch the third season because I didn't hope they could plot the course. Both viewers and network execs can get tired of a story they can't make sense of...and that's the reason why Season 4 won't probably be. I feel a bit sad for Milo Ventimiglia for that.
