Villmark (2003)
The ratings are well deserved.
This is indeed a very good movie, not only because I love Kristoffer Joners acting, but also because the movie is shot very well, the Norwegian nature is wonderful as always (Yeah, I'm a fan of my own nature. Shoot me) and this movie portraits it well. What I like the most is that to me, the actors play in such a way that makes you feel a part of it, as if you were there when it all happened. I guess the fact that they're all talking in Norwegian makes me relate more to the movie than foreigners, but I don't see why anyone else shouldn't feel the same way, no matter where they're from.
9/10, because it could have been more scary, although the strong acting, the camera-work, the cinematography and the tension leaves me to think that this is one of the best Norwegian movies ever... Apart from Elling, of course.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
Exceptional, strange, funny and absurd movie of Monty Python...
When I first saw this, I must admit I was a tiny bit skeptic to a low-budget movie starring John Cleese. I had seen Clockwise before I saw this movie, and I had a bad experience with that one. When that's been said, I must say I still laugh when I think of the scenes in this movie. The opening is one of the most special opening scenes I have ever seen. I saw this movie along with the rest of my class, and I'm pretty sure they didn't know what on earth that was going on. Our teacher said nothing of what kind of movie this was, so everyone thought it was serious until about 2 minutes into the opening scene. From there on, everyone knew that it would be an absurd, though funny movie. Since there are so many strange and silly obstacles, and so incredibly absurd humor, this movie is one strange, though extremely funny way of picturing the knights of the round table.
The acting is this movie is also flawless. The characters act silly and ignorant, funny and gullible, everything expected from a Monty Python movie. Now, I haven't seen very many Monty Python movies or series, but I have seen Life of Brian, Meaning of life and Monthy Python and the holy grail. These are what I mean to be his best movies.
A glittering 10 out of 10 from me. A must-see for Monty Python fans and those who hasn't seen it 20 times...
Gladiator (2000)
Emotional, strong, entertaining, exciting - This movie has everything!
First off I just have to say that the first time I saw this movie I was so captured by it. Russel Crowe did an amazing job as Maximus and for that he is one of my favorite actors.
The way Riddley Scott manages to set the setting into the Roman Empire is truly fantastic. You have everything you have ever thought about as typical roman, and Riddley manages to put it all together perfectly. The best thing about the movie is the emotional part. The movie stir up strong emotions, especially at the end where it's like Riddley unleashes a combination between thrill, excitement and sadness. If you somehow haven't seen this movie, and you are reading this comment, I shall not reveal anything. All I say to you is: Sit back, enjoy the perfect combination of emotion, entertainment, and last but not least the thrill of your life. Be sure to turn off everything that can disturb you, and MAKE SURE YOUR STEREO IS WORKING PERFECTLY! YOU NEED GOOD SOUND! If you haven't seen it. SEE IT. If you have seen it. SEE IT AGAIN.
Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure (2003)
The worst movie I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot!!
**WARNING** MISERABLE MOVIE **WARNING** The day before Christmas eve, some nut case decided he'd entertain us by sending this movie as "entertainement" on TV. What in Gods name was he thinking?
This movie is filled with awful humor, despicable acting, lousy jokes and a disaster of a plot line. Randy Quaid plays the idiotic role as Cousin Eddie Johnson. Eddie is a brain dead person, who's incapable of even the simplest tasks. He was fired because he was dumb as a brick, but the company he worked for was sorry for it so they sent him and his family on a vacation. But being as stupid as he is, he managed to make the vacation into a disaster.
All-in-all it's the worst movie I've seen, and I have nightmares still over the miserable acting and the even more miserable jokes in this movie. It's so sad you ALMOST have to see it... But don't. The nightmares I have are far worse than any other nightmares you will ever have. Trust me... I hate this movie so bad because of it's acting, the humor, the "jokes" and the story. The only good thing was the nice scenery.
Well It's my opinion, and I surely hope everyone agrees with me...
The Last Samurai (2003)
Fantastic!
First, I'm introducing by saying that I gave the movie only 9/10 because I've recently learned that Last Samurai is built on the same plot as Dances with Wolves, starring Kevin Costner. Since I haven't seen that I don't dislike the movie because it's a "Rip-off".
The movie starts with this peaceful introduction (Where the narrator says one of my favorite quotes; "I say Japan was forged/made by warriors...") and during that time you see beautiful landscapes. Summary: Nice introduction.
"So it begins", the movie continues with Nathan getting sent to Japan to deal with these "savage rebels with bows and arrows" but you learn throughout the movie, that savage is the last thing they are, and that these men have more sense of honor than any race to walk the earth. When Nathan gets captured and introduced to the Samurai way of living, he feels somehow relieved to be captured. Soon he's healed from the wounds he obtained through the battle which he was captured in, and starts wandering around (With a guard which he calls "Bob") admiring their way of living. Summary: Fantastic continuation, with admirable acting!
The whole movie ends with Nathan Algren going to the "enemies" side; the Samurais side. He finds himself training to become a Samurai, and learning Japanese so he communicates with his new people. The final battle is filled with emotions, strategy, bravery and last but not least revenge to his captain, which he has hated since Custer fell to the Siouxs.
All around summary for the movie: Admirable, truly fantastic and impressive. As I said: 9/10
