Midsommar (2019)
Save your money and time.
Well A24 you've disappointed me yet again. If you liked the Witch, you might like this, but if you actually want to be scared, go see anything else.
I knew going in that this wasn't a traditional horror movie, and was still disappointed. I was hoping to have some sort of unsettling feeling at some point. I read articles talking about people losing sleep. Are you kidding me? What was supposed to be scary at all? Other than the people who jumped off the cliffs, nothing was even remotely horror. Go watch the wicker man (Nic Cage version) and you'll get an equal amount of scares.
The opening scene set up something that could be super cool, then just completely fell apart after that. I expected some sort of slow burn along the lines of hereditary, but this was more the slow along the lines of "I wish I had just gone to sleep."
The cinematography and visuals were good, and the lead girl did a good job, but other than that this movie was awful.
If you get dragged to this film, just watch the first 10 mins and then go hang out in the game room at the theatre and you'll have a much better evening.
Bullitt County (2018)
This was just awfu!
I watched this because I hoped it had something to do with Kentucky, it doesn't. It could have been placed anywhere in the world and would have been just at terrible.
The cast never gets you attached to any of them, and I didn't care what happened to them at all. You get an explanation for 1 of them eventually, but he has made so many stupid choices by then it was beyond redemption.
These people just didn't make rational decisions. For example, after being covered with blood and agreeing to clean it up, they continue to walk around in the woods for hours without changing their blood splattered clothes. I can understand if they didn't have more cloths, but they clearly have fresh clothes on a line.
Overall the characters weren't relatable and didn't interest me. I'm extremely disappointed. There were 4 people in my theatre, and I know exactly why!
Searching (2018)
Mediocre at best
Story was alright. Kept me engaged the majority of the movie. Decent suspense as information was provided appropriately. Provided some mild twists throughout and kept me thinking. Overall acting was solid, and directing was good.
The downside is this movie is completely reliant on being recorded via the computer. While adopting this different way of story telling is interesting, there were far too many things that didn't make sense. Under what circumstances would anyone talk to a detective via FaceTime? Why was the computer randomly recording while he was on the regular phone? This may be necessary for the story to be told completely through the computer screen, but doesn't seem realistic at all.
Overall a decent movie, but I'm glad I caught it at the dollar theatre rather than full price.
Don't Fuck in the Woods (2016)
One of the worst movies I've ever seen
How this movie possibly got an average rating of 8.7 (as of the first 45 ratings) is beyond me. I only watched this based off the ranking, but I am disappointed in the IMDb community that this rating would stand for more than a day.
Basically the movie is about a creature that kills you if you have sex in the woods. It stars a porn star (Nadia White) who acts like you would expect a porn star to act, badly. There are a lot of pointless nude scenes in this movie, and was more of a soft core breast video than a cohesive movie.
If you want to see women who expose their breasts, and then are killed, you might like this movie. Otherwise, go watch any other movie.
The only reason I gave this movie a 3 was the camera work was decent, and some of the conversations were entertaining. Quintin Tarantino was always good at creating natural sounding conversations, and the beginning of this started like that. The rest was pure garbage.
