From Scratch (2022)
Beautiful Story
Such a beautifully built story about love and family. Zoe Saldana gives an amazing performance, I would watch her in anything. I watched the last five episodes straight, I couldn't stop watching. We'll paced, great chemistry between the leads.
I haven't seen other stories told start to finish like this one, and the themes are explored with such patience and care. I was well and truly invested in the outcomes.
I didn't know what to expect when I started, and the story didn't go where I thought, even after the conflict part of the story began.
Find some time to watch this one, and watch the story unfold from 'scratch', aptly named.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Awful. I tried to enjoy, but just awful.
None of the innovative fight scenes and stunts that made the original so exciting. Really odd villain casting choices and don't get me started on the attempted 'friendly' sentients. That sting-ray will haunt my dreams.
Filled with literal clips from the original movies, I think the only goal for this film was nostalgia. It cheapens the original trilogy, which is worse than just adding nothing.
Almost walked out half way through, but as The Matrix is one of my favourite films I really wanted to enjoy this - it was a shame it was so terrible.
Afterlife of the Party (2021)
A sweet story
This is a cute movie. Sweet idea, simple, family friendly plot. Not a masterpiece, but not meant to be. A nice movie to watch if you're looking for something a little heartwarming, a little funny, with some positive morals.
Awake (2021)
Entertaining enough
Moderately entertaining, but predictable apocalypse narrative. I haven't seen concept of not being able to sleep in other end of the world films, but this film still follows the same narrative structure. Some interesting directing, and the story builds in intensity, so it is entertaining enough to give it a viewing, however, don't expect to be blown away.
